We attended a business conference at this hotel and not only is it located in historic Rapallo with easy access to Genoa, Porto Fina and other resort/tourist areas, the service and staff is excellent. In addition, the views are incredible from all sides, but ask for a seaside view. If you are in this area of the world, stay here.

We stayed for 3 nights in October, in a corner suite with sea views and a terrace. Excelsior Palace is an old world luxury hotel with stunning views of Rapallo, the coastline and sea. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the town centre, where there is a good choice of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are regular local bus and ferry connections to Santa Margeurita and Portofino. The hotel is very well maintained and has quality fittings, comfortable beds, and reasonably good wifi. Like other Italian hotels, there was no iron or tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast is served in in the restaurant on the first floor, and seating is available on the terrace overlooking the sea. It was disappointing to find, like other reviewers, that the breakfast is not of the same 5 star standard as the hotel. As one reviewer says "it is OK", but certainly not to the standard of other leading 5 star properties. I don't eat red meat, and don't enjoy cheese at breakfast, so was left with very limited choices. Disappointing that receiving similar feedback fairly consistently, little change have been implemented. Overall our stay at ExP was delightful. The ambiance is one of charming, old world luxury, and the staff were consistently professional and welcoming. Currently the outdoor pools are closed for repair, however the indoor pool is open. Warning: the 52 steps from the street to the hotel foyer will be an issue for some guests. But the views are well worth the effort!

First thank you so much for fixed the problem of the reservation that I had because of a gala hotel, what you did for me was really professional and you showed empathy worthy of a 5 star hotel ! The room was nice, with superbe view of the sea, bathroom is really modern too. All the staff is very professionnel. Hope to see you again.

The Excelsior Palace Hotel is a luxury hotel situated in the amazing location in Rapallo. The rooms are very clean, the spa is awesome with worm inside and cold outside amazing pools. The breakfast is marvelous. The service is fantastic. All the rooms have an amazing views to the sea port. The price in October was very reasonable for this perfect hotel.

This is the place to wake up and see the sunrise every morning rest of your life. Grand building, beautiful interior, lovely view, nice room, delicious breakfast, kind and very helpful staff....definetly would like to say here again and for a long time. It is in the centre point where you can go to Portofino one day and go to Cinqua Terre second day and discover other beatiful places nearby. Peronnnel at the reception and concierge are really great and many many thanks to them we had a wonderful time in Rapallo with their advice and direction.

Not critical that the pool wasn't available in October, even though warm weather would have made it desirable, but they are eliminating the existing pool and building another. For the 2018 season you might want to be sure it's done! Overall the hotel is lovely, the rooms spacious and the staff cordial, but I do have some quibbles. One, it is located on a hill in its own garden, somewhat isolated, so don't count on a stroll into town (where parking can be difficult). They do offer the use of electrified bicycles, but I wouldn't ride one on the twisting hillside road with cars and motorcycles zooming by. Two, the kitchen breakfast staff needs a shake-up. Old cantaloupe chunks and hacked pineapple, as well as flabby half-cooked bacon, show a disrespect for the food and the clients. The buffet is simply not up to standard. Three, a complaint in more and more hotels: Dim lighting in the rooms. Energy efficiency is great, but not when I can't sit and read a book because the lights are so very low. Don't say it's "romantic." It's just poor lighting, and the Excelsiort Palace is not alone in this design defect. Lest my complaints leave the wrong impression, let me add that this is a truly beautiful hotel!

The view from the balcony to watch the sunset was lovely. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in. Shower great. Breakfast - something for everyone. Bar drinks expensive - 18 euros for 2 small beers. Staff efficient and friendly. Good car parking. Valet parked. Short walk in to town, with good selection of restaurants. Will be back again. Highly recommend this as a five star hotel.

We agree with most of the other reviewers, beautiful spotless bathroom & bedroom. Bedroom a little on the small side but very bijou & cosy. We especially appreciated the choice of soft & hard pillows. Not too sure what to make of the bedside mat which in our opinion is a slip-trip hazard. Breakfast was exceptionally good & well served. On checking out, receptionist offered to bring the car out of the garage for me, I declined & asked for car keys at which point he read the note from the night before stating no one but me was to drive my car & made a slightly sarcastic remark (p.s. the car is on the large side & right-hand drive, I’ve previously had cars damaged when parked by valets.) Overall I believe 5-stars are well deserved & we will definitely come back.

The Excelsior Palace is one of grand old hotels in Rapallo, both of a bygone era and for today. Stayed two nights in a balcony room and couldn't get over both the room and the view. Would have been satisfied with just those features, but the hotel is so much more. Nice swimming pool (weather was warm enough in October to be more than comfortable), good workout area, great breakfast on the terrace. Had dinner in the Lord Byron restaurant one night, quite good food with very good service, though a little on the high side. Hotel sits on a hill so you have to walk down to town, but good exercise after all the good food in town. Expensive, yes, but to us, worth every penny. A memorable experience

As we drove up the driveway into the courtyard at Excelsior Palace Hotel, we knew our choice of hotel in Rapello was definately the right one. Position was incredible, the walk up and down to town was just a comfortable stroll. Parking right outside the front door made life so easy when travelling like us with too many suitcases. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. Lord Byron resturant was a fantastic dining experience, the breakfast each morning was an absolute feast. Many thanks to Lily and the team who work tirelessly to keep everyone's needs in line, Thankyou for our breakfast omelettes they were delicious. The bar was very well situated on the balcony. Sitting out there with a drink all those delicious snacks and the perfect sunset, just amazing. Coming to terms with the fact that some patrons in the hotel have little thought for others by bring their dogs into the restaurant was alittle confronting at breakfast time. In Australia, animals are not allowed where food is made or consumed.
