If you like a Goan breakfast, you will be disappointed. You can have your breakfast boiled, poached, scrambled, fried, or for the more adventurous, omelette. Then there's toast and cornflakes. Now I wasn't expecting an extensive, multinational buffet breakfast for what we paid, but just a little local offering would have been nice. My only other gripe really is the wi-fi, or lack of it. The rooms are starting to look a little dated, but fairly clean. Again, ok for what we paid. On a positive note, the outside spaces - gardens and pools - were pleasant and very well maintained. Also, the location is pretty good. Would I pay £100 a night for Country Inn & Suites again or £50 a night for Highland Beach? The latter.

Nice location with easy reach of a nice beach and shacks, bar and restaurants. However the shower head was clogged up n had to wash using a bucket and cup. Plenty of pools but preferred to go to the beach.

Arriving at 3.30 am we just fell into bed, we were warned they would be firm and they were, but they were not a problem. Waking up to find a dirty toilet, shower curtain stains around the sink and toilet, dirty walls (lipstick and other stains), and a filthy fridge were a bit of a wake up call. Told the rep and the fridge was cleaned?? Having taken Dettox wipes i cleaned it myself, bleached the toilet, the shower curtain was beyond help. The standard of house keeping was poor, the same water used for goodness knows how many room floors including the bathroom and toilet, is it any wonder there are outbreaks of sickness and diarrhea??? We never experienced problems with the towels, fresh ones every day, but where they appeared new at the start of the holiday towards the end they were looking very used. Breakfast was hard toast, eggs (fried, poached, boiled, scrambled, or made into an omelette) ate breakfast in the restaurant on just 2 occasions, found other outlets selling breakfast at 250 rupees so not a problem. If returning to Goa I would not stay here, it may not be the high end of the hotels available, but i do expect cleanliness. Maybe Thomas Cook should send out the hotel inspector!!! The location and the gardens are great, lacks sunbeds, most people head for the beach. The taxi guys outside the hotel are great, a special mention for Mickey who took us to various places of interest and nothing was a problem for him. Take a pad lock for your safe deposit box and look out for the samosa man, 10 rupees for the best tasting samosa.

After a week touring North India courtesy of Rahul ( Harsha Deep Travel) based next to Newtons we spent 3 weeks relaxing at the Highland Beach. Apparently after several inspections from Thomas Cook the improvement in cleanliness and service was very evident. Booked a double room situated near the top side of the complex by newtons and although we have stayed in single rooms here before it certainly gives you more space. Clean towels still seem to reappear at evening time for some reason but keeping a few in reserve solves the problem. The extensive grounds and 7 swimming pools were kept very clean and tidy throughout the stay. The only only fault we had this year was the shortage of beds around the pools most likely due to several old beds removed and not replaced and perhaps more people preferring the pool areas as opposed to the beach. Already booked for next year without hesitation, a nice hotel ideally situated providing good value for money. As for Candolim as I always say everyone has their favourites so try as many restaurants as you can you wont go far wrong, tried Earthen Oven and Sheetal down beach road for first time this year and would recommend both.

My husband and I stayed for two weeks and got it for a very good price with Thomas Cook. This was our second trip to India and we were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation, we even had a shower curtain! We stayed in room 603, it had a very limited view and was very noisy as it was by the restaurant kitchen. It was clean with hard but comfy beds. It was a one bedroom apartment with a sitting room The complex is very large with seven pools. The biggest problem we had was getting towels The fridge in the room was excellent The location is away from the noise of the strip and I would book it again if I got a good price Take a padlock for safety deposit box

Arrived New Year’s Eve second visit to highland beach, lovely resort you do not feel as if you are in a complex more a village. Brilliant sized rooms large lounge, kitchen (not that you ever use it) 2 good sized bedrooms each with own shower rooms. The rooms are cleaned every day and the complex is spotless. The resort is in a brilliant location short walk to beach, my apartment in block b behind Newton’s is very quiet away from the hustle & bustle of the main road. If you have children there are 7 swimming pools scattered throughout all have sun beds with waiter service yet are never crowded, sometimes you could be the only people there. The staff are very helpful, breakfast is basic 100 ways to have eggs but this is the same wherever you stay, Would highly recommend this hotel

The room was a good size ,the shower was a wet room ,the only thing was there was no where to put any toiletries , the bath towels were a bit of hit or miss as they said the laundry didn't arrive until 6 ! , the staff was friendly , no one told us you had to fetch your one pad lock for the safe deposit box. Would stay again

Stayed for 2 weeks end of December/January.3 of us sharing an apartment.place was well maintained and resort continually cleaned.Really nice place to stay. All the staff were excellent and really friendly.food was good.resort was a nice sanctuary when you weren’t on the beach or in the town.could not fault the resort or the staff.we had an amazing holiday
