Rising Sun Hotel

Have stayed at this hotel a number of times in the past and it has always been my preferred stop when visiting businesses in the area. This time I had not been for a while and was a little surprised at how tired it looked and felt. Particularly some of the public areas had carpet worn down to the underlay. And the room, while perfectly clean, again needed a little TLC. Service on booking in, during the meal and on checkout was absolutely top notch. Friendly and very helpful and attentive. Evening meal was nice, standard menu pub grub, with not much choice for a fussy non meat eater either. Place was busy in the evening too. Breakfast good as usual. I won’t mention his name, but the member of staff who looked after us, who was on shift throughout the evening and then back again early in the morning to serve breakfast is a superstar. thanks! PS views from the front facing rooms are spectacular if you get a clear day.

We decided to go to The Rising Sun for evening meal on a whim. We hadn't been there in a long while. Really pleased we decided to go there. Fairly quiet atmosphere. Greeted warmly by the lady behind the bar. As it was quiet, we were given a lovely table in the corner of the dining area. The person taking our order was friendly and polite. I had the beef rib with pulled pork and fries, beautifully cooked and I enjoyed thoroughly with a pint of ale. My wife had the belly pork which was again beautifully cooked and appreciated. The waiter came and checked we were happy with our meals and was polite and likeable character. Clean restaurant and clean cutlery. Very enjoyable evening meal which was unplanned. Highly recommended. The beef rib was exceptional and cost was reasonable. Total bill was more than reasonable.

We stayed overnight while walking the Cotswold Way (this is a 10 minute steep walk up to the hilltop from the hotel). Rooms are modern and the bed comfortable. Bathroom just ok but at least the water pressure is great! We didn't eat for dinner (it has a standardised menu found in quite a few of the pubs and hotels locally). Rooms overlooking the road (which probably have the best views) are noisy due to car traffic on the adjacent road which started around 7 am. Old school carpeting.

Lovely comfortable room with king sized bed, and a wonderful view. (Room 3). Very friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Nice selection at breakfast, and the food was very good indeed, and well presented. Just had a one night stop but will definitely be coming back

It was a last minute desicion to head for the Cotswolds so there wasn't a lot of options on where to stop, so we booked and arrived. The Hotel is in a fantastic location with some amazing views. The room does require a bit of TLC, but it was warm and the bed was very comfortable, both our evening meal and breakfast were very enjoyable served by friendly helpfull staff. Overall a very enjoyable reasonably priced stay, reading some of the other reviews my only comment is "you get what you pay for".

Having eaten at many restaurants in this chain the quality of the food was no surprise. Of all the chain of restaurants this has to have the best views. The service was great, very friendly, very professional and quick. They also have a good policy of free non-alcoholic or alcohol free drinks for the designated driver. Only one bad point was that they seemed to have a problem supplying clean glasses. Sent one dirty glass back only for it to be replaced by another dirty glass.

Booked a table by phone, left message, they phoned back confirming table and time. However when we arrived no trace of booking young man at bar went on to say all bookings he had by their names, we really didn’t want to hear that. He should have apologies for not having our booking and make arrangement to find us a table. Eventually he pointed to a table, think the young staff at the bar need to smile a bit and do a coarse in customer service. On a positive note, the waitress and waiter that took our order and served our food, were very polite and friendly. They were very busy and did their best. Food was very good

I have been going to the Rising sun since my childhood having grown up in Bishops Cleeve. Now, living in Southampton every time I revisit the Cotswolds this hotel is on my list. I have never actually stayed, but I have also never had a bad meal... and I've had a few of the meals. Prompt friendly service. Call me biased but also fantastic view. And wonderful food. It is always a pleasure to revisit the hotel.

I should start by saying that I cannot comment on the bedrooms at this hotel. We often come here for a drink in the Summer as it has a lovely garden with fabulous views over the countryside, plenty of parking and the food is good. It’s just time for a refurb. Everything looks like it needs updating whether going for a modern or an old look. One area that is slightly removed from the bar but inside provides a place to sit with an excellent vantage point but more than a few times I have visited when the table has not been cleared or cleaned. Management, if you are reading this, the establishment has such potential that isn’t being reached. Your staff are friendly and the food is fair to good. You’re sitting on a goldmine - come on, keep up with what your clientele really want.

Family get together drinks and supper. Spacious and comfortable bar clean and well looked after. The food was above average all of our food was served hot and at the same time. Generous portions and well cooked, the burger I had was one of the best I have had. The other dishes all received praise from the rest of our party. I would recommend eating here and when we visit again we will.
