We spent 3 days at the Mercure as a get away from Sydney. The drive down is pleasant and we lunched at Crooked River winery. Check in was fine and our room was highly satisfactory. The decor was a little tired but regardless, the room was highly functional and the bed was huge and comfortable. The spa bath was also very relaxing. Our room was well appointed (near the pool) and the outside area was ideal for a glass of wine at sunset. The breakfast was included in our deal and we loved the buffet provided. We brought some food in for dinner and used the microwave. The last night we splashed out on room service and we were really impressed with the service and quality of the meal - delicious. The resort is only a short trip to the town and beach and Gerringong is a lovely little town. Everything seemed to come together nicely for our stay at the Mercure. It totally suited us and we will be back.
I expected a lot more from this hotel (given the price tag and the Mercure name). Unfortunately I found it to be sub-standard. The room was tidy however in much need of refurbishment. The furniture was old, tired and scratched, (veneer missing from the wardrobe etc) the tiles felt greasy (as though they hadn't been cleaned in months), there was no mini bar (with the restaurant closed at check in time until 6.30 pm, we had to leave the hotel to get a drink!). The staff at the spa were were polite and professional. The spa package for $148 was very reasonably priced for what you get. Again, the decor is in need of a revamp (I felt like I'd stepped back in time to the 90's!). The restaurant served pleasant food but nothing special. I really expected to be able to sample great local produce and wines, however the menu offered no such thing. The staff at breakfast were rude. It is advertised that breakfast is served until 10.30am however we arrived at 9.30 to find most of the hot food was finished and not replenished. We asked for the pancake machine to be refilled and staff agreed but never did. The coffee machine was dismantled for cleaning prior to 10.30, so I thought to ask for hot water to make tea. The waitress was very rude and complied with a sigh, told me breakfast was over and did not offer milk. I would not return to this hotel nor would I recommend to anyone. Your money is best saved by staying in a local motel or cabin at the caravan park where you would get better amenities and value for money.
Stayed at the Mercure Gerringong Resort with my wife a couple of times now and have been a little disappointed each time. We travel a lot and have found ourselves at home in Mercure style, usually. The Gerringong Mercure is pleasant on the eye at first, the rooms look fairly neat and tidy but the complex is old and the fit outs of the rooms not up to usual standards. On both occasions we found the room ripe with cockroaches! there was insecticide spray provided so it was obviously not a unknown.Smoking seems to be allowed anywhere and the resort seems to always small of smoke, especially out the front of the rooms all the time, yuck in the morning!. The restaurant here is up to standard with the food outstanding and produce used, top shelf, we have found staffing levels very low and service slow but on both occasions have had a pleasant experience. Reception hours are very short, although advertised to be open till 8pm on both occasions they were closed at 6pm and check in was through the restaurant, we are Accor members and expect to be greeted as such with our welcome pack, but this venue does not seem to follow protocol with this or the rewards program. Another option in this area may be the Sebel in Kiama.
my title pretty much sums up the unexpected. oh except the good service and clean. hotel is nice and modern. as you would expect from Mercure. service is pretty good. however reception is only 9to 6pm.Otherwise go to restaurant to check in. later than 11 you might have to use the telephone service. restaurant kitchen close 9pm. Room service half hour before that. Nothing near by. within walking distance. no cafe.. no shops etc.. beach is 5 min drive. or 20min run/jog. if you arrive late and hungry.. you'll have to drive elsewhere..to find food. There's a vending machine near the pool sitting area. Luckily we arrived just before room service close. and found out there's a surcharge of 5dollars to have it deliver to the room. so we opt for dining at the Bel Char , which is a great restaurant. fine dining price. but nice. with fire place. service is good. Lovely friendly ladies. we had mix entree for 42 dollars. small portions but excellent tasty morsels. kids meal is cheap and generous. Good value Breakfast is $20 if you book ahead otherwise ten dollars more. not a good value for 30.. because for that price you'll expect fresh juice instead of UHT type. and pancake machine was broken so my little one is disappointed. since it was discounted... it was not too bad. i brought my swim suit, but can't use it as the pool is freezing! which is a pity especially when they advertise heavily to come in winter. if they'll invest in make the pool indoor and heat it up, there will be more people turn up i think. good hotel as over night stay on the way to sydney or down south. Groupon price is good. with Saturday has surcharge $50. But would be too pricey otherwise. i'll recommend if you'd like a quiet place with no hussle of tourists.
Excellent accommodation, clean and tidy, customer service was excellent as we arrived late they had organised an easy late arrival, beautiful location and enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend, we also attended Bella Spa, just what we needed to complete our relaxing weekend away!
The good: Very big comfortable rooms with great lighting (no standing under one dull light to read). Very clean with everything that you needed. The food in restaurant was really nice and there was a pleasant place to sit to have a drink. The large pool would have been good at another time of year; and their is a tennis court. The fairly good: Location was fine if you drive but a bit out of the centre and away from the beach for a short walk. Could have been better: One or two of the restaurant staff seemed to know what was going on but the others were somewhat disorganised - nonetheless, very friendly, so it's forgiven. The management / reception staff let the side down a bit in their preparedness and follow up on some simple issues that arose (and shouldn't have).
My wife and I came here because having stayed at the Sebel Kiama the year before, we were told that an upgrade from that would be this, the Mercure Gerringong. Unfortunately, that was not the case, I prefer the Sebel, and it's a bit cheaper. I feel that the Mercure is just milking it's name as a bit of a fancy hotel, because the Gerringong version of it is not well located and not particularly amazing in other ways. By not well located, I mean that it's not on a beach or a harbour, and is actually on the road into Gerringong, just randomly situated between that road and the M1 (the freeway). So there is no chance of a view really no matter what room you're in. The provided breakfast is pretty good but to be fair I've never been disappointed with a hotel breakfast. I would rate this place as "average" or even "good" if it were priced more like 'The Best Western', but being priced as it is, I can't go above 'poor', although that is possibly a bit harsh (tripadvisor needs more levels!) Basically, if you want a visit to the lower Illawarra (Kiama/Gerringong), I'd recommend the Sebel Kiama.
A great Accor hotel in the superb coastal town of Gerringong. The hotel rooms are wonderful and roomy and a good nights sleep is assured. Breakfast was very enjoyable and the restaurant was well appointed and the service quite OK. It has lots of things to do for families and is only about 500 meters to the patrolled beach at Werri Beach or a short drive to Gerroa and seven mile beach. No trip is complete without a trip to the Rugby League Football legend's Cronin's Gerringong Hotel but you really don't have to leave here. We will be back.
This place is so well designed and run that it is a wonderfully relaxing break from Sydney. The restaurant is just what you want after travel: great Staff, relaxing, casual but elegant, good menu, wines and cuisine. There are smart couches in leafy nooks everywhere outside the rooms to just chill. Even an open fire in the reception. Rooms clean, smart, great, solid and quiet. Can't say enough good things about this place and no, we don't have shares in it lol.
Deal on Groupon room great size clean but not where you can't see like under the bed and under the TV. Tap on shower fell off when you first get in the shower very slippery, bed is so comfortable we had room 306 balcony is excellent views to the valley fantastic if though it rained balcony did not get wet if we where one floor down it was very wet . Only downfall was you need to go up two flights of stairs, which is what you need to do for the excellent balcony very important to me. Bathroom good size , air conditioner perfect , kettle ,toaster , fridge. We got a bottle of wine and late checkout cost $309 for Friday and Saturday night , pools look so nice we will return in the spring or summer so we can try them out. There is a day spa there which I would treat myself too next time . We had breakfast which I would give a miss next time only $20 each but definitely not worth it town is just up the road with lots of choices. Sea vista is one so good .
