This hotel has a charming art nouveau interior and no doubt the exterior will match when the works are completed. There is scaffolding at the first and second floors which actually makes the hotel entrance difficult to locate. We were on the 1st floor but no work was going on during our 3 day stay however suggest travellers ask for a floor above the scaffolding. Very close to the station but even so difficult to navigate medium size suitcases over the rough roads and footpaths! Our room was quite large and comfortable - the bathroom was tiny but excellent shower. Breakfast was of a good standard and there is a reading room and ironing room on 1st floor. The hotel trattoria is excellent- reviewed separately.
This hotel is close to the train station. Check in was no bother, we got there early and could leave our cases while we went out until our rooms were ready. There was scaffold out the front and when we got to our room the workmen could look straight into our room, the curtains wouldn’t pull across, there was an electronic blind on the outside which we could operate but felt to enclosed in the room. We were moved to another room where on this floor there was painting going on there were no signs saying this until we mentioned it to the staff the next morning, then there were signs on the hand rails on the 5th floor. The breakfast was minimal not like other European hotels groups we have stayed. This was our experience,I’m sure once the works are completed it will be a lovely place to stay. Just wished they had told us when we checked in.
The hotel is a construction site at the moment so there is banging all day. It is not located in the best area so there is no shopping nearby. The only plus is being close to the train station but this is not enough to make it a good option. I would not recommend this hotel.
Our check in was less than stellar, possibly because it was a holiday and I assume the more professional staff was off that day. We checked in for 5 nights and were given the Classic room we had reserved, but were surprised that it was quite cramped. Perhaps there are Classic rooms that are larger, but we were not given one, which surprised me since we were staying for almost a week. The room was so small we had to move the chair in front of the door each night so we could walk around the bed. There is no need for 2 chairs in such a small room. No complaints, though, on the large t.v. with many channels. Probably the best tv and station selection in all our travels. Nice, but snug, bathroom with towel warmer, good toiletries, and bath sheets, not skimpy towels. The room had electric screens over the windows that blocked the noise from outside, so we slept well each night. Upon checking in, we asked the young woman at the desk for a restaurant close-by since we did not know the area at all. We were directed to a restaurant in the old quarter! How were we supposed to navigate our way through all those narrow alleyways when it was getting dark out? A ridiculous rec for weary travelers looking for a quick bite. She kept pushing us to go to the hotel restaurant, so perhaps that was why the impractical recommendation. There are a few restaurants right nearby and a great Foccaria down Via Balbi, the main road into the city. There were so many people out and about around the hotel and train station during the day, that we always felt safe in the area. Be cautious as you would in any large city. Overall, the hotel is a good choice for accessibility to the train station across the way for train access along the Ligurian coast and the Volabus to/from the airport. Trip to the airport took 20 minutes from station (6 euros p.p. one way). City bus #35 seemed to go to all the touristy areas, and stopped right in front of the front door of the hotel. Take the time to see the historic city, which has a lot to offer, like amazing palazzos, gorgeous architecture, and winding alleyways down to the port. The city should work with hotels and businesses to clean up the grafitti and filthy buildings, and Genoa could be an amazing showplace.
I booked to stay here before we sailed for a cruise. When I showed up the hotel did not have my reservation and told me I cancelled. I told them it’s not possible as it was a no cancellation room so why would I pay and cancel. They were booked and I was a bit panicked so lucky for me someone cancelled and I was able to get a room for 3 people as you know in Europe the room for 3 is hard to get. Do my online booking was for €150 but I now had to pay €250. I was not pleased with that as it was €100 more but this one came with breakfast. The room is not as grand as in the pictures but certainly clean. This hotel is walking distance to the train station and close to the port. There are many hotels in the area. The hotel was undergoing some renovation on the outside the view was obstructed by scaffolding. Overall a jic place but it is hard when you compare something in North America that has a 4-5 star listing vs Europe with a 5. This is certainly not a 5 start.
Stayed here for a night on a stopover from Nice in France to Cinque Terre. The staff were very nice, and they sent up a bottle of champagne when they learnt that my husband and I were on our honeymoon. Little touches like these definitely matter! The hotel's facade was being renovated when we were there and the scaffolding covering the hotel made us a little worried because we were afraid that it would be noisy, but there were no works going on while we were there. 3 min walk to the train station on flat road, so it's easier to wheel your luggages around. Would stay here again
The hotel located near the old town and all things can be seen on walking distance. The hotel was perfect, Nice clean room, good bathroom, friendly personel, and good breakfast. Perfect for aa short visit at Genua! We came by car nd just stopped before the entrance of the hotel, they park you car, easy and safe!
We stayed for 4 nights in a classic room although not huge good standard and very clean and comfortable. Rooms cleaned every day to exceptional standard sweets and nice touch. We were on 4th floor at the front with view of main station piazza nice at night didn't find it to noisy. You have access to sister hotel next door which is great take your swimwear and try the rooftop spa. Really lovely old style Italian hotel. Must mention the staff who were great nothing to much trouble.
This was our third stay at this hotel, and it remains on my list of favorite hotels ever. Much care has been taken to preserve the gorgeous original decor. The breakfast is excellent, the hotel is conveniently located (1 minute from train station, short/beautiful walk to the centre), and the service is very professional. My favorite elevator in the world is here. Recommended without hesitation.
This hotel is excellent placed to visit the city and it is very easy reachable. The service to park your car is very convenient. All the staff is very kind. Room was spacy and well furnished with a bar.
