Just returned from a business trip to Genova and stayed in this lovely hotel. The decor is beautiful and people at reception very friendly. The room however was very outdated and musty. The mattress was super uncomfortable as it was hard and you could see the spirals when just looking at the thing. For people who use a shower to wake up; please be cautious as there is hot water for a short period of time only. Breakfast was super nice! Location is ideal - 20 mins by taxi to airport and close by all the sights.

We stayed 3 nights at this beautiful hotel, it's in the center of town and nearby waterfront. Our room was beautiful and the staircase is so pretty and amazing. The staff at reception is friendly and very helpful. Giovanni was the best!! Thank you for a wonderful visit.

Only had one night here but it was like being in paradise. My room was enormous and so beautiful, a special treat was having the bed turnef down. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff lovely. Very centrally located.

An excellent location convenient for all the sights in Genoa situated on a street with nice upmarket shops . This is a grand traditional hotel with , as most reviewers mention , the most impressive staircase that is simply stunning. The staff are efficient and professional and the whole hotel is very clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the 1st night which was very good and not overly expensive . The breakfast was a plentiful selection , sweet and savoury and should suit most tastes. The bed was extremely comfortable with good quality bed linen . However as mentioned in a previous review the website showing examples of the rooms clearly is a little misleading . It only shows the better rooms and although there is written details of sq ft of the rooms it gives the impression the rooms are better than they are . We had a classic room which was the basic offer as we were only staying for 2 nights as a stop over. The room size was adequate but there was limited storage for clothes other than those that can be hung up . The room really needs additional shelves/ drawers . In the bathroom the shower was good but the bath was tiny and even though I'm only 5ft I couldn't lay down . There was also no where to put your own toilet bag/toiletries apart from a little space at the side of the sink which wasn't big enough . In addition some of the bath towels looked a bit shabby. Having said all that we would return to this hotel if we return to Genoa but we would choose a better room .

This is in many respects an excellent hotel. It is well situated for most of the important sites of Genoa, and a fifteen minute walk from Genoa Brignole rail station from where you can easily access many of the pretty small towns along the Liguria coast. The airport bus drops off almost opposite the hotel, and picks up a hundred metres or so away on the Piazza de Ferrari. The hotel seems to have been fully renovated in recent years, and was spotlessly clean. WiFi reception was fine though the strongest signal seemed to be in the ground floor reception area. The buffet breakfast is extensive, catering for all tastes. The mini bar in our room was free and restocked each day. (We had the impression however that this may either have been because we were staying six nights, which is perhaps longer than most guests usually do, or else we had booked well in advance and paid a special rate.) It would however have been nice to have had tea/coffee making facilities in the room as well. We were staying in what is called the classic double room, essentially the smallest type, but had the impression that tea/coffee facilities may have been available in the more expensive rooms. In fact the biggest criticism of the hotel is that its website only shows photos of the larger rooms, this giving a misleading impression of the various room types. Although an acceptable size, classic rooms are we imagine normally occupied by a single business person staying for only a night or two since storage facilities for clothes are somewhat limited. Had the furnishings and furniture been better thought out this problem could have been alleviated. For instance the bedside cabinets had only one drawer which was really too small to be used for many small items of clothing. The space for hanging clothes was also very small, but this would not have been such a problem had simple coat-hangers been supplied instead of rather elaborate ones which took us space to no useful purpose. Similarly the en suite bathroom comprised an extremely small bath and accompanying overhead shower head, whereas omitting the bath and instead installing a good shower would have been a better option. Indeed, even the shower screen on the bath was too narrow so when using the shower head it was difficult to avoid water getting onto the bathroom floor. Notwithstanding these criticisms, the bed itself was very comfortable, and the air conditioning excellent, making very little noise even if left on at night. The room looked out onto a side street, which was visually bland, but, as this road had no through traffic, even with the window open there was very little noise coming in from outside. I do not know whether any rooms look out onto the main road. If so, I imagine noise could be a problem as the road is very busy. All in all this is a grand, classic hotel, and a good choice for anyone staying in Genoa.

Just arrived back from a short break four nights in room 639 booked direct with the hotel. Altogether an excellent experience. Yes, the room is small but you are in the heart of downtown minutes from the old town, the train station and even the department store. No problem with WiFi. Air conditioning is effective yet silent. The wall between ours and adjoining room 640 allowed the transmission of noise from some very loud Italians but not for too long. The front desk was very helpful at all times especially when KLM lost my suitcase (and many others!). They also printed out train timetables on request. The breakfast was good quality, although not enormous and included champagne! We ate once in the restaurant - excellent food, three courses including a bottle of very acceptable wine total bill including excellent service just 90 euros. Finally when it came to check out and I paid in cash the receptionist actually rounded down the bill and gave me 10 euros back for free !!! To finish off the hotel got us a local taxi to take us to the airport for only 21 euros - far cheaper than the 34 euros it cost to get us from the airport to the hotel. Altogether an excellent experience and we are definitely returning for another city break there. The key is the attention to detail from the whole team which is very unusual nowadays.

Just as other people have stated, why is it only 4 star? This hotel has everything anyone could want for a stay in a busy city like Genoa. We arrived by taxi (more on that in another review!!), which was just as well, it is easy to walk by the entrance as it is tucked in with various shops frontages. Once in like the Tardis, it opens out and there is of course the amazing staircase. All the staff, reception, waiting (restaurant, bar and breakfast) and of special note housekeeping, were friendly, helpful and efficient. Our room was on the 4th floor (luxury level - one up from basic), it was a generous size with high ceilings and lovely classic furnishings. Very good bed/mattress, pillows and linen, excellent toiletries in the great bathroom - bath and shower and two basins, so no arguments over who brushes teeth first. The double glazing really worked (there is a lot of traffic) and we were happy to keep the windows closed as it was a very hot and humid time. The air conditioning worked beautifully and was not intrusive at night. The location is just right, very easy to nip out to eat and shop and the main sites of interest are within minutes walking distance. We happily dashed back with shopping, or just to cool off regularly, to our beautifully serviced each day, room. They have a restaurant (second floor with an external terrace) and bar (ground floor) for cocktails and snacks, both of which we used and enjoyed. Very good breakfasts with everything anyone could want. There are 2 lifts if the albeit glorious stairs are too much. If you arrive with your own car they will park it for you and will call taxis if needed - Principe railway station is 10ish minutes away. All round good.

I am so surprised at the number of good reviews for this hotel! It is certainly in a good location in Genoa and there is a lovely staircase but that is where it ends. The elevator had a bad smell throughout our stay. The room didn't look anything like the pictures on Trip Advisor, it was pretty basic and very dated. The whole place needs to be painted. The breakfast was nice as was the breakfast room but that is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. Would not recommend.

We stayed only for one night and would always come back to this hotel for another stay. Its dignified charme, the beautiful interieur, the large rooms with lovely furniture and everything provided for your needs, and the professional, friendly service by everybody of the staff was simply perfect. From the hotel you have only few steps to Palazzo Ducale and the Old Town. Checking in in 5 Minutes, leaving your car in front of the entrance - a member of the staff sees to it and takes it to the garage where it is safe till you need it again. Breakfast - as expected - in wonderful rooms and on the terrace - fulfills every wish and even offers local specialities, too. Because of a recommendation for a nice restaurant nearby by the very friendly receptionist we had a lovely evening. For us THE place to stay in Genua.

Check in was easy, we left our car outside and they parked it for us, room was cozy, bed was very comfy. Had an issue with the restaurant since they close at 10:30 and we got there at 10, they said they didnt have time to make anything for us, so we ended up going to the bar for a quick bite. The breakfast buffet was amazing please make sure not to miss it. it has everything and very lovely.
