We're seasoned travelers in Italy, having visited the country in all regions a dozen times over the last 10 years. This was our first time in Genova and I am sure we will return to the Bristol Palace. An homage to the genteel hotels of the early 20th century, our room at the top of the 4th floor room 430 of the Bristol Palace was large, had comfortable linens, a sparklingly clean bathroom and floor, and all the great smelling toiletries (6 different kinds) that you'd expect. One reader complained "shampoos" were missing from his rooms (any adult would call a 4 star hotel guest desk and receive shampoos within minutes); shame on that client for complaining and lowering stars here when a room porter forgot to include it one day!). That doesn't warrant a lowered star here. No way The AC was quiet and surprising to me was that we were near a busy street and once the windows were closed no city sounds were heard! The staff were charming and quick on their feet always eager and willing to be attentive at all meals and the lobby. I was highly impressed by the charm and grace within this wonderful "palace" gem in the middle of this lovely city. We were within walking distance to nearly everything we wanted to see in 3 short but sweet days: museums, via Garabaldi, Piazza Erbe, and the famous Oriental indoor market not to be missed- within 15 minutes walk to the Eataly complex- a fun way to catch up on some great company and enjoy well prepared foods. Only a few minutes walk away was a Galleria and shops with every high end trinket imaginable. I'd highly recommend this hotel to my friends and that's my way of giving it the thumbs up!
This is a great hotel in a central location. The rooms are large by European standards. Very clean. Very pleasant stay for a business meeting. Issues: The safe is too small and you can not fit in a laptop or tablet computer. The wifi speed was very variable from excellent to rather poor. The shower glass curtain is not every effective and you get a lot of water on the floor. I will happily stay here again despite these issues.
Pros: - Excellent location in the heart of shopping, countless dining options, and short stroll to Port Antico, bus and train station. 15 minutes cab ride to Boccadasse (beach town). - Staff is very friendly and helpful. - Breakfast buffet on terrace included. Cons: - Rooms definitely show their age. - Beds in some rooms are overdue for replacement. I had to switch rooms since my bed (king) had obvious depressions in each twin where bodies laid over the years. Very uncomfortable as I couldn't really roll around. - Housekeeping is noisy and still knock and enter rooms, even with the "do not disturb ". - Woke up with bites (mosquitoes?). My friend had same complaint in her room. Open your window with caution.
Arrival 3/5. The center of Genoa is a 10 minute cab ride from the airport, though the €35 fare seemed a bit steep (not arranged via the hotel to be fair). The entrance to the hotel is on the wide main road Via Settembre in the city centre and is easy to miss. The lobby and reception area are quite small and often congested. Check in was friendly and efficient. Make sure you look up from reception - the view of the stunning elliptical shaped staircase is reported to have inspired Hitchcock’s Vertigo movie. We were in our room a few minutes later. The city map provided by the hotel was completely useless and showed non of the city highlights - we binned it immediately. We stayed 2 nights. Room 4/5. We had booked a suite and were allocated room 441 on the 4th floor. An enormous corner suite with a high ceiling and 2 large windows. The bay window had 2 small balconies. Very comfy king bed - we slept well. Nice antique furniture and a beautiful wooden floor, all in keeping with the hotel’s style. Lots of seating, desk, large wardrobe, kettle, large safe and tv. We found the WiFi very slow and we used our own 4G instead. No iron/board. Bathroom 4/5. Quite small for a large suite. All very pleasant though and with everything we needed. Quality shower, hairdryer, bidet and nice Trussardi toiletries. Good extraction. Location 5/5. In the very centre of Genoa. Everywhere is only a short walk away. The Cathedral, harbour area, Via Garibaldi, Fountain of Ferrari etc are all very close. The main Brignole station is s short walk away with trains to Santa Margarita (Portofino), Cinq Terre, La Spezia and beyond. Breakfast 5/5. On the terrace or inside. Lots of lovely choices and a glass of Prosecco too. Service was excellent even when it was busy. Dinner 5/5. We ate here on our first night. Lovely food and attentive service. Very pleasant to eat on the terrace. You do need to book though, as it was full. Staff 5/5. Helpful and attentive in every way. Value 4/5. We paid £232 per night. Good value for such an enormous suite and central location. Overall 4/5. A fine hotel in a central location with super rooms, good service and lovely food. We enjoyed our stay here. I really don’t understand why some hotels don’t offer an iron/board - it is so useful when you are moving hotels to try and stay crumple free.
Hotel is superbly located. Just outside the old part of the city (3' walk). Lovely rooms, well appointed, and stylish. It is an old hotel but it has charm and class. There are dozens of cafes and restaurants around the area in downtown Genoa. I can't recommend it enough. Valet parking available (and you'll need it). We didn't have the breakfast but the wifi was complimentary and of a good quality. Channel TV selection was also like in most Italian hotels Book it without hesitation.
Booked on the day and had an excellent stay. Thomasino (?sp) looked after us at the reception. Decent valet-parking. Nice room with generous amenities. Breakfast with a wide selection on the terrace. And that legendary staircase.
Very nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff at check in. Clean tidy and the most amazing staircase (told inspired Hickcock vertigo film- can understand if you are at the top!). Good location and nice breakfast. Would come again
Great location in Genoa , very nice room with view. Very helpful staff and great recommandation for the restaurant - Zefferino restaurant in Genoa which is close to the hotel. Thank you guys See you again
I had a wonderful stay! The stairs is a eyecatcher when you walk into the hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. And I must say that the bed was one of the best I've ever slept in. The hotel is located on I think the best place in Genova. If I come back to Genova I definitely book Hotel Bristol Palace again!
I have been in many Bristol hotels, but this one has some issues. For my one day stay in Genoa I've booked a Triple room. The room was huge, very impressive and cozy, as the bathroom too. The 3rd Person is sleeping on the coach-bed in the living room. The Problem was, that when I came back after dinner about 22 o'clock my coach bed was not prepared, although the king size bedroom for the other 2 person was good prepared for sleep with warm light and bonbon on the pillows. I had to call the reception and wait to fix it. The Piccolo came fast and did it kindly. After this I wanted to take a shower and saw there is no tower for me again. So it seems that I have booked a room for 3,but it was not prepared for the 3rd person. Not to mention there were of course no slippers for me etc... Its not a huge mistake but it shows attention (in my case the miss of it) to the guests.... Bristol is not the type of hotel where you should be "surprised" with such a mistakes.
