Henry and Elaine are gracious hosts who are very passionate about their hotel and the comfort of their guests. The quality of the food - both dinner and breakfast - is excellent. They take the time to engage with their guests in the cozy bar following dinner and provide helpful recommendations for touring the area. If you're seeking quality accommodations in the country, we highly recommend this property.
Evidently, we didn't get a room like the ones in the pictures! Our room was old, smelled of bug spray and dirty. There were SEVERAL cracks in the ceiling and walls. The paint was chipping in the bathroom. There was a light that hung from the ceiling and the shade hadn't been cleaned in years. We wouldn't even take a shower because it didn't feel clean. The TV didn't work from the very start. When we tried to explain about the smell to the owner, he got upset and got very loud with us. We asked if we could get a refund so we could go to another hotel and he yelled at us and said, "NO!" VERY RUDE! The owner kept on saying, "This is a 4 star hotel!" Personally, I wouldn't rate the room we got anything more than a 1 1/2. We were booked for two nights but only stayed for one. THAT IS ALL THAT WE COULD STAND! I really can't understand the other reviews??? I can only guess that those people got rooms like the ones in the pictures. I certainly wouldn't take a chance on this place!!!!!
The Ross Lake House Hotel is on lovely grounds with an absolutely breathtaking approach along side a gorgeous stream. I will have to say our room was quite small and much in need of updating as was the majority of the rest of the property. One of the couples in our group told management their bathroom was cold and were told the heat would be turned on at night and off in morning. We did not consider this Hotel to be 4 star! Breakfast and dinner were only average and dinner was pricey for what was served.
We spent two nights here on a ten day trip to Ireland, using the hotel as our base for seeing the Galway coastal area and Mayo coast/Achill Island. The owners were welcoming and gave us good information about things to see and distances, etc. Our room was comfortable and well furnished. The bed was a four poster bed with a canopy. The bathroom was a bit dated but within our expectations. We stayed in the Landlord room above the check-in area. The grounds are very pretty and the place shows pride of ownership. Janice made a salmon sandwich dinner for us and served it in the bar as we had arrived quite late. Breakfast was excellent, with Joe serving as a Sargeant efficiently directing the whole thing. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausages and ham were delicious. The breakfast room was full with couples and families traveling together. This place is more of a high end B&B than a hotel, but it had all the charm and personal touches we were looking for rather than an impersonal hotel in Galway. We enjoyed our stay. Like another reviewer, we also saw some long-leg spiders in our room, which is to be expected in a countryside place where the windows open for fresh air.
We had a memorable two nights stay here. It was as if we were staying with family who were really happy to have us visit and catered to our every whim ! We were not once asked our room number or had to sign anything !The garden is spectacular without being too manicured. Gorgeous majestic trees and even a Monkey Tree right on the front lawn. We had a lovely sunny room on the ground floor with a fabulous comfortable bed. We had dinner there both nights and each time I was served up a delicious surprise vegetarian meal as there wasn't anything on the menu. Breakfast is a real treat with fresh fruit and eggs to order. The hotel is a bit off the beaten track and perfect if you want to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside and Irish hospitality at its best.
We stayed at Ross Lake Hotel with Henry and Elaine (owners) for two nights! This manor house hotel is gorgeous and the hospitality you receive from the second you come through the door is top notch. We loved how close we were to driving and exploring the Connemara Loop, Ballynahinch Castle, Kylemore Abbey, and Ashford Castle. We would definitely stay here again! Loved everything!
Stayed for two nights at this hotel Beautiful Georgian house on its own grounds Got a beautiful room with a four poster bed Breakfast included which was lovely Also had dinner there for two nights The food and ambiance were excellent Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it for couples or older families
When we first entered we thought the reception area was a run down, although we had a lovely welcome from Henry who showed us to our room. What a surprise, it was amazing, 3 rooms, large bedroom and bathroom with a lovely sitting room looking out to the well groomed lawns, beautiful furnishings and very comfy bed. Sight seeing advice was spot on. When we arrived back after having dinner in Galway we were welcomed into the lounge/bar area where we were served the best Irish Coffee. We sat chatting with Henry, Elaine and the neighbours, felt like home. The following evening we ate in, lovely meal, followed by drinks in the bar with other guests and the owners, Henry and Elaine, what a great night, sitting around laughing and chatting like old friends. This was an amazing experience, the best accommodation we had on our 7 night holiday in Ireland.
My wife and I stayed two nights here while on a tour. The grounds were well groomed and was quiet. The room was a really good size and seemed pretty clean. The service was very good and the host was open to answering any questions we had about the manor or the local area.
Whilst staying in the area we decided to have a meal here. We called in to book a table for later that week and asked if steak would be on the menu - it was a limited choice dinner menu but looked good. We were told it might be but not guaranteed. Seemed reasonable so made the booking. It is a beautiful hotel in a fabulous setting. Unfortunately our dining experience was not good! We can not say we were made to feel welcome when we arrived - we were left standing in the hall before being invited into the bar. Steak was on the menu and several of us chose it only to be told that they do not do chips, they do not have a deep fat fryer! Unusual for a restaurant I think. Disappointed we continued but found the food to be not of the expected standard. Steak with boiled potatoes and ratatouille is not a common combination. The service was not particularly great either. As non-residents we felt we were an inconvenience. Overall we wished we had chosen somewhere else. There are lots of great places to eat in the surrounding area.
