We, family of four, used the Ross Lake House Hotel as our base for exploring Galway and Connemara area. Our stay was very present. Rooms are spacious and clean, library and bar very pleasant, hosts are super friendly. Some may say that the place is a bit worn out, but this is part of the atmosphere.

What an idea location for a stay in Ireland! The food is amazing, the grounds and room beautiful, the staff polite and helpful! We were greeted by Henry, the owner, who showed us to our room, and explained the times for breakfast. The butler, Joe, dresses in a bow tie and jacket in the evenings, and a tie and jacket for breakfast. Joe was also very helpful with directions for our trip the following day to catch the ferry to the Aran Islands. I can't say enough good things about this charming 1815 building and staff!

We stayed here and just loved the beautiful setting ! Henry and Elaine were wonderful hosts and the house itself has so much history. We really enjoyed the full Irish breakfast the next morning in the very nice dining room. All the staff were very friendly !

Big and clean rooms. The owners gave us a warm welcome and were helpful during our stay in the hotel. We also had diner in the hotel on our last night, which was a very nice experience. Great food! The area around the hotel is also very beautiful.

I just read the review saying this feels like staying at a rich friend's mansion. We agree completely. Hotel was beautiful, grounds amazing, dinner was beyond compare and Joe's award winning Irish coffee was a highlight of our two weeks in Ireland. Highly recommended!!

We happened upon Ross Lake House after our previous hotel cancelled on us with three days notice (a water pipe emergency, they said). I'm sure that hotel is lovely too, but boy did we luck out and come out on top when Ross Lake House Hotel had one room left! I can't say enough about this wonderful country house. My fiance and I stayed this past weekend for a night and loved it so much that we tried to cancel our other hotel in Dublin and extend out trip (sadly, it was too late to cancel). If the exterior of the building isn't enough to make you fall in love nearly instantly, the instant warm greeting from Henry when you enter will really do it. We arrived just before 8, and Henry and Joe got us set up in our room, and then down to the most wonderful dinner in their dining room. Everything was perfect- from Joe's service, to the duck I had, and even down to the brown soda bread that came before our main courses. We slept in and missed breakfast the next morning, but took the time to go for a stroll around the gorgeous property, before getting on the road to Kylemore Abbey. It was exactly what I had in mind for our first trip to Ireland- like something out of a fairytale. Do yourself a favor and stay here- we can't wait to come back for more than a night!

Henry and Elaine are gracious hosts who are very passionate about their hotel and the comfort of their guests. The quality of the food - both dinner and breakfast - is excellent. They take the time to engage with their guests in the cozy bar following dinner and provide helpful recommendations for touring the area. If you're seeking quality accommodations in the country, we highly recommend this property.

Evidently, we didn't get a room like the ones in the pictures! Our room was old, smelled of bug spray and dirty. There were SEVERAL cracks in the ceiling and walls. The paint was chipping in the bathroom. There was a light that hung from the ceiling and the shade hadn't been cleaned in years. We wouldn't even take a shower because it didn't feel clean. The TV didn't work from the very start. When we tried to explain about the smell to the owner, he got upset and got very loud with us. We asked if we could get a refund so we could go to another hotel and he yelled at us and said, "NO!" VERY RUDE! The owner kept on saying, "This is a 4 star hotel!" Personally, I wouldn't rate the room we got anything more than a 1 1/2. We were booked for two nights but only stayed for one. THAT IS ALL THAT WE COULD STAND! I really can't understand the other reviews??? I can only guess that those people got rooms like the ones in the pictures. I certainly wouldn't take a chance on this place!!!!!

The Ross Lake House Hotel is on lovely grounds with an absolutely breathtaking approach along side a gorgeous stream. I will have to say our room was quite small and much in need of updating as was the majority of the rest of the property. One of the couples in our group told management their bathroom was cold and were told the heat would be turned on at night and off in morning. We did not consider this Hotel to be 4 star! Breakfast and dinner were only average and dinner was pricey for what was served.

We spent two nights here on a ten day trip to Ireland, using the hotel as our base for seeing the Galway coastal area and Mayo coast/Achill Island. The owners were welcoming and gave us good information about things to see and distances, etc. Our room was comfortable and well furnished. The bed was a four poster bed with a canopy. The bathroom was a bit dated but within our expectations. We stayed in the Landlord room above the check-in area. The grounds are very pretty and the place shows pride of ownership. Janice made a salmon sandwich dinner for us and served it in the bar as we had arrived quite late. Breakfast was excellent, with Joe serving as a Sargeant efficiently directing the whole thing. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausages and ham were delicious. The breakfast room was full with couples and families traveling together. This place is more of a high end B&B than a hotel, but it had all the charm and personal touches we were looking for rather than an impersonal hotel in Galway. We enjoyed our stay. Like another reviewer, we also saw some long-leg spiders in our room, which is to be expected in a countryside place where the windows open for fresh air.
