I nearly always stay at this place (the former Liza hotell and Gällivare värdshus). Was disappointed last time due to cold room and no cleaning, but this time they did better. Some rooms are colder so please ask to change if that happens. Restaurant and breakfast is good. The gym is small but it will do for an exercise.
A decent hotel but nothing to write home about. A small but clean room on a strange mezzanine landing arrangement. Breakfast ok. Fitness room small and not much equipment. Blackout blinds on the windows are useful given the 24 hour daylight!
The change of hands has sunk the quality of this hotel somewhat. The most annoying aspect of overnighting there are the yobboes next door testing their souped up cars and sound systems. The hotel seem totally indifferent to them and I find it remarkable that nothing has been done about them. Sorry but you used to be better. You used to care. Not anymore!
I have been staying in quite a lot of Scandics in the whole Scandinavia, and this was the best, so far. I was a whole week there for a business trip to Aitik, and a series of conferences/presentations. I loved the fact that there was a swimming pool and a hot tub, which I was happy to use everyday during my stay. The rooms were comfortable, and spacious. The food was delicious - I´m vegetarian - and the cook even asked me on a couple of occasions what kind of vegetarian I was, if I liked it spicy or not, etc. The food presentation, and variety, was far beyond any imagination; not to mention the quality! All the waitresses were kind and ready to satisfy our needs, and could speak both in Swedish, and English, which was good, since there were a lot of foreigners in the group. I think the reason why my stay was so good is due to the great staff. The hotel should be proud of having such a good team working with them. The stay was excellent, and I will recommend this hotel to anyone going to Gällivare.
Nice experience during the 25-26 Feb 2017. The staffs are very cooperative. We went to celebrate birthday of my girlfriend and they arrange vegan dessert for her though the restaurant was closed during weekends.
Spending a week here is nice but there's absolutely room for improvement. Restaurant offers a narrow selection of food, and after a week here you run out of choices. The fact the the restaurant is closed on Saturdays, when you as a member should have 20% discount was a disappointment, especially with the poor selection of restaurants in town. We are paying a rate of SEK 1795:- per night which is a bit too much in my opinion. Rooms are modern, with high standard and the bathrooms are recently renovated. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Hotel choices in Gallivare are limited, and the Scandic is certainly acceptable.Located a few blocks from the city center, it is an older hotel/motel that has been completely refurbished. Rooms are Scandinavian style, functional, and clean. Breakfast had both hot and cold cold components. In my opinion it is priced too high for what is offered.
Nice, clean and cozy hotel, friendly staff. Free drinks at your disposal 24/7 in the lobby, where is nice and comfortable to sit with friends or collegues and admire the live fire in the fireplace. Has free WiFi throughout the hotel and free parking with possibility to preheat the car with cold weather. Free breakfast, gym, sauna and indoor pool. Very good location - everything is just at walk distance- different restaurants, shops, museum, railway station etc. I would stay there again. :)
Situated off centre, but being one of two hotells in the town, the prices are high. The rooms are of average sizes, averagely cleen. All rooms have separate bathrooms, ok. The nicest place is probably the restaurant with a forthcoming and pleasant staff.
Gällivare is a town with limited options to experience. The Liza is an excellent choice to stay by any standards. The exterior might be considered outdated but when you get in you find a hotel aiming for the best. The service at reception was friendly and welcoming. The room was basic but completely functional and modernized. The wifi speed was fast with 15+ mb/s. The hotel's sauna was nice and quiet, almost on a par with a Finnish sauna. The breakfast was unbelievably good.
