Me and my partner have just returned from a two week trip to the occidental barcelo jandia playa. When we first arrived the reception staff were very rude and snappy, rushing us along without answering questions. I felt very much as if I was inconveniencing them by being there. The lady who served us was on the verge of shouting at us when we asked directions to our room and for a safe. The room was fantastic, very comfortable apart from the air conditioning being old and temperamental. Cleaning staff were brilliant and the pools were good but quite dirty. Also no pool toys were allowed including lilos which was a shame. The holiday reps around the pool who organised the entertainment were beyond annoying and would pester you to join in even if you were asleep. I was unimpressed to be grabbed by one when walking past drinks. Food was largely good although basically the same every night. I did, however, find a cockroach wandering around across the cheese tray and had a caterpillar in my food, both were barely acknowledged by staff. When I pointed out the caterpillar, the waiter just mumbled sorry and left. On our last day we were denied late check out and so had over 4 hours to kill before our transfer. I went to reception to ask if there was a room to store our luggage but was cut off mid question by the lady behind the desk saying 'no.' And rolling her eyes. I tried to ask my question again to which she did the same. Eventually I just said 'luggage room' as I was unable to finish my question without her just repeatedly saying no. Turns out there was which made the whole day slightly less inconvenient. We were also not allowed lunch on the last day despite not having it on the first day due to our arrival time. Even though we paid for 14 lunches, we only had 13. Other hotel guests we spoke to seemed to be having similar problems. Beach was great, boat trip was great and the oasis park was as good as a zoo can get. Overall we had a fab holiday that was let down by horrible reception staff and bugs in the food.

this is a resort, there is hotel with main building and 9 other smaller buildings around the area, there is not good to be in other buildings. Restaurant is devided for peaople who pay more extra for some suplements etc... its not the best options. Food rather without any extra thiings., bar close to the pool very poor with food choice Only the location was not so bad, quite clode to the beach

We were at the occidental jandia playa in june just got back had a great holiday staff in restaurants and bars were great made you welcome the food was a good choice and don't know what people that right on here we had a great time the rooms was always cleaned and the cleaner was hard working like all staff were the only problem was my partner has walking problem and been a diabetic we were in block 9 Room 2210 great sea views but a long way from restaurant and bars a lot of steps we would go back to this hotel but not in that block 9 one closer to Reception and restaurants never told hotel wish we did but me and my partner did not want to make a fuss but want to thank all management and staff special the girl in the piano bar that was great and friendly for making our holiday x

Just back from a week at the Occidental Jandia Mar and it was a great holiday! We had a late arrival and didn't get to the hotel until 9.49pm. The receptionist straight away asked us if we wanted to get dinner which ended at 10pm . They offered to take our bags to our rooms. We weren't hungry and decided to check in and go to the room. The reception staff were extremely efficient, told us what we needed to do and dealt with us as quickly as they could. They then told us to wait outside for the porter to take us to our room on a golf buggy. This was a fabulous service as I doubt we would have found it in the dark without help. He came really quickly and carried our cases up the one floor to our room. The rooms are spacious with a massive bed, which is really comfy, good wardrobes with a safe. It is a little worn but all very clean. Room cleaned every day and towels changed when indicated by leaving them on the floor and sometimes even when not. There is a mini fridge in the room which they replenish with bottled water daily (AI). We couldn't get our safe open as the previous occupant had left it shut. I phoned reception and they sent a maintenance man to open it for us. He got to us within about 5 minutes - so quick and brilliant service. One thing I think would add to the room is to provide tea and coffee making equipment in the room - having to walk to breakfast without having a cuppa was a struggle. We were in block 9 which is right at the bottom of the complex. It is on a hill and there are pushchair friendly paths up to the top as well as various steps for which to make your way through the site. My husband was all for taking a different route each time which is a good way to find your way around. I did struggle a bit with the hills as I have bad knees but if taken slowly was manageable. Fabulous view of the beach from there though. We were all inclusive but I found there to be a good choice of food. There was always pizza, pasta, salad for dinner and freshly cooked meat and fish. There were theme nights of different cuisines but with everything else The offer was a strange mix. Fresh fried eggs and bacon for breakfast, fresh fruit, cereals yogurts toast. Sometimes the food was only Luke warm but it was always cooked properly. The bars are busy in the evening but all the staff work really hard to serve you quickly and always in the best of attitudes. I have to say the army of staff at the complex were absolutely fantastic!! There is a good choice of drinks and cocktails to choose from which are all included. There is a small complex of shops on the road beneath the hotel complex which is easy to access with the lifts. There is a spar, various beach accessories shops, shoe shops, an Aloe Vera shop, a perfume shop and a couple of more upmarket shops. From there you can get to the beach via an under pass or via a zebra crossing. You have to walk around a nature reserve to get to the beach but it isn't very far. The beach is gorgeous! With plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to rent for the day. For 2 beds and 1 umbrella it cost €13.50 for the day. The nearest toilet is in a bar and is for customers only though. There is a lovely walk down to the lighthouse which then leads to further shops. The market is on a Thursday morning and I highly recommend a visit. When you get to the Road facing the beach don't cross over but turn right and walk for about 2km. You pass lots of shops and when you get to the end (near the marina turnoff) turn right and the market is at the end of that road. There is an ATM in the hotel but it wasn't working whilst we were there. There are other ones in the shops which are passed the closed zoo on the main road towards the lighthouse. The pools are great, lovely and big. The lower pool being the quieter one. They have fixed canopies for shades but no umbrellas. The beds under the canopies go quite quickly in the morning too and on the whole I would say people would only claim beds when they were actually going to use them. I would suggest going to breakfast with your towel so when you come out you can get a bed. There are exceptions of course you'll always have a few selfish people who put their towels on the beds really early. I would say that umbrellas are essential and the hotel should provide moveable ones for those that want them. We didn't really watch the entertainment or join the activities during the day but there was plenty going on but hard to get a seat to watch the evening entertainment unfortunately. They had it in the bar downstairs but there is a theatre one floor up which would have been better as much bigger and you'd get more people in to watch! We tried to get late check out for our room but they were fully booked so needed to book a complimentary room for a shower. This was disappointing as there were no towels and other people who had used it had left it in a mess with their toiletries left everywhere! On the whole I would recommend this hotel, lovely room, great pools, brilliant location ( although quite far from the airport) and absolutely fantastic staff. There are things that can be improved which is why it gets 4/5.

Very good Hotel, plan to return. Little bit of a trip from airport but very comfortable coaches. Top pool is very hot once sun comes out, Bath hot. Very quiet area plus beach trip is a must. About 5-10 mins walk but worth it.

Fantastic Hotel brilliant for families I travelled with myself my girlfriend and my four-year-old daughter the entertainment team animation were really excellent Melissa was absolutely amazing she didn't stop gave 200% my daughter Amy-Rose love her to bits there was nothing ever too much trouble for Melissa she went out her way every day to come see Amy-Rose by the pool or at the evenings entertainment (NOTE TO MANAGEMENT- what ever she is getting paid it's not enough ,,, Melissa a real asset to your hotel) all the animation team with great Vicky to mention at the evening kids disco fantastic to, the entertainment every evening was good which made our holiday that little bit more special the animation shows were so funny love them. Hotel itself very clean, rooms clean every day and fresh towels, greats swimming Pool the designated kids Pool was heated it was like bathwater every day amazing, more that enough sun beds for everyone lots of space. As a whole had a great time would deafly go back again hope that the hotel keeps up there excellent standards NOTHING I CAN FAULT .... PERFECT 😄 Gordon, Maria and Amy-Rose LUTON UK

Here now. Lovely views. Food ok much the same. No English sausages. Bar is a joke. Long queues for drinks. Never had this at any other Barcelo. Staff are brilliant. Entertainment is rubbish. Not enough room for everyone to watch and relax the e entertainment. Advice. Hire a car. Only one straight road from the airport. Beach is so so fantastic. No water sports though

My best friend and I wanted to go away, somewhere really hot and right next to the beach. The resort looks as perfect in real life as the pictures! When we got to the resort it was late, dinner was just about to close and we had been traveling all day - the first thing the woman on reception said to us was to go to dinner to make sure we got food and they would take our luggage to our room and after we could go back to them to show us to our room! Perfect, how thoughtful and kind. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a queen sized bed! The bathroom was very clean and the wardrobes were big and perfect to hang our clothes in. Not to mention the beautiful sea view!! The food was amazing and suited everyone's choice, the breakfast was the best! Fresh fruit on demand, amazing hot cooked food, waffles and crepes! It was just heaven! And when it came to the desert choice at lunch and dinner, there was just so much and it all tasted amazing!! The pools are very clean and blue, and the holiday representatives were very friendly and welcoming! The beach is literally a 5 minutes walk (maybe even less) and you can see this from all over the resort!! This is the best holiday I have been on and i would recommend to all of my friends not to mention re visit!! I loved it so much, thank you to everyone at occidental Jandia playa, I will see you soon! Xxx

What can I say...... Here now at the moment not really what we expected. Down points:- # animation team very poor not really doing a lot not much for English at the evening # food- always cold and not varied same every night # bars not staffed for the amount of customers queues are very long. Must say staff work hard that are there just need more # sunbeds are all reserved and very hard to come by # our first night we had to wait nearly half an hour to be shown to our room Good points:- # beach across the road is lovely 2 winners for €13.50 # excellent spar shop just below- got cheap drink and good range of tobacco. # town is lovely- market on Thursday and Monday # rooms are nice especially block 9 sea view Sorry another down side was no spa still bring refurbished- was looking forward to visiting there. I know the sister hotel has one but we were unable to access this by our hotel as there were card locks on all the gates. We shall not visit again after spending just over £3500 for 4 of us I can say this definitely wasn't worth it!!

I recently stayed at this resort with my Wife, sister in law and her boyfriend. When we arrived I was amazed at how nice the reception area is. We quickly checked in and the receptionist asked us to wait outside for the bellboy to take us to our room. However as there was a long queue and only one bellboy with a small golf cart we were forced to find our room by ourselves as it was very late. As a nice gesture, the hotel kept the dining area open for its new guests and had pasta salad and drinks available. Our room was very nice and big and we had a beautiful ocean view which was spoiled by workers renovating the spa and gym. These workers would work from 7am to late so no need for a wake up call. We were unaware of this renovation and was very disappointed we couldn't use these facilities. The pools are really nice although a tad bit cold and the pool bar needed updating. There was alot of 'reserving ' sun lounges with people putting their towels on them and disappearing. The Food was hit and miss as some nights was delicious and some was very poor with not many choices. There was alot of drinks selection including branded fizzy drinks (always a plus), wine , lager and ice slush machines. The entertainment was absolutely dire. We found ourselves playing cards and going to bed at 10pm (and we are young adults). The only good entertainment was a duo band which played jazz and folk music and a pianist who plays every Sunday. One day we decided to take a walk to its sister hotel Jandia Mar which looks the more superior out of the two. The only thing the Playa hotel has on its side is it's location. The Jandia Mar had a better atmosphere and it's entertainment looked brilliant which included Abba tribute band and mini golf. I asked if we could use their facilities as it is the same company but they said we couldn't. The location of the Playa hotel is really good as it has a few gift shops and a Spar store 2 minute walk from the hotel. The beach is a nice short walk which included squirrels and chipmunks saying hi. The Beach is incredible -white sand and clear blue sea. There is also a shopping centre and restaurants a couple of miles away. There were a couple of minor issues including our card keys not working on the 6th day and wasn't able to get into our room for a good 30 minutes and the cleaner maid not changing our bed or towels as often which I found out was because we didn't leave our towels on the floor or in the bath which is apparently the way to tell them you need new towels. Overall it was a slightly disappointing stay and coupled with the island being baron and not much to do, it's safe to say we won't be coming back.
