Just returned from a break at the Gaviotas Park (Resort) and had a wonderful time. The weather was exceptional which was a bonus. The hotel was very friendly and clean and the staff were without exception lovely. We were celebrating an anniversary and this was recognised by the hotel with a surprise gift awaiting us on arrival. Most things have already been noted by other reviewers but a few things to note before booking: The video and 95% of the photographs on the Thomas Cook website are of the Gaviotas PLAYA not the Gaviotas PARK (Resort): and the majority of those, including the video, show the Premier sections of the pool areas which are not accessible to 'regular' guests. The spa look wonderful but was an additional cost - a mere $15 for two hours but this, along with the gym, was a very underused facility - I only saw three people in the spa and a couple in the gym the whole time we were there. Would have been nice to have had one visit included in the cost of the holiday at least. Being able to use both hotels was wonderful – we preferred to sunbathe and take lunch in the pool bar at the PARK (Resort) but didn’t take to the restaurant or the outdoor evening terrace. The restaurant was very dark, hot and crowded (although no complaints about the amazing food!) the terrace for breakfast and evenings were soon full of clouds of cigarette smoke as there were no fans on the ceiling and nowhere for the smoke to dissipate. There were also a lot of people vaping. An outdoor eating area for non-smokers would be great. The terrace at the PLAYA was gorgeous with uninterrupted views of the beach and sea. The sunbathing terrace here was beautiful but far too crowded with people having to shimmy sideways between the beds to access them – they were full so obviously needed, but much more relaxing over at the PARK. We had most of our evening meals at the PLAYA which, in comparison, was like eating in a very nice restaurant compared to a works canteen. So all in all beautiful hotel(s) with amazing food and branded drinks – I have never had consistently better in any hotel – in a beautiful location. We would go again tomorrow if we had the opportunity providing we had the use of both hotels!
Cannot fault facilities, cleanliness or any aspect of this hotel BUT....... it is advertised by Thomas Cook as "Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Resort -.....stay here and you get to enjoy the use of both the Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Hotel and Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Park. Please note - You can use the facilities in both hotels however reservations are required if you wish to dine in the restaurant in the alternative hotel to which you are staying" We have previously stayed at the 'hotel' twice but booked late this time so there were only rooms available at the 'park'. When booking we were reassured we could use both hotels. We booked the alternative restaurant at reception ok the first time but from then onwards we just got a barage of excuses as to why we couldn't! This included, you can only do it once per stay, then we were told twice per stay, then we couldn't do it every night, 24 hrs notice required, they're fully booked (without even checking). We spoke to the Thomas Cook rep who spoke to the staff but nothing changed. He also said they didn't like you using the other pool area. Although there wasn't anything wrong with the restaurant at the 'park', the one at the 'hotel' was more spacious, had slightly more choice and has been refurbished recently. Either advertise the 2 hotels completely separately or allow folks to move freely between the 2! Just sort it out!
We had a fabulous stay at this hotel but couple of things need attention. Our side sea view was as it says but mainly overlooked the carpark however the junior suite was large and roomy and adequate for our family of 3. The room was clean & bright however the bathroom needs an upgrade - tiles and grouting around the bath needs re-doing enamel on bath had been painted over and looked untidy & unprofessionally done (4202). The pool area and bars were great clean & no problem getting a sun bed however the rules around not leaving towels on beds are not adhered to by the majority of guests or actioned by staff. The majority of staff are friendly and engaging. To name a few Anna Rosa in the bar was very friendly and warm a credit to the hotel also Maria, Pablo and Delfin in the hotel next door were stand out staff but our favourite overall was STANO who my Son thought was fab he was always so kind to him and took time to say hello unlike so many of the other animation staff. Reception is the weakness in this hotel - our arrival was less than welcoming and he forgot to put our wrist bands on so after travelling 14 hours we had to go back to reception before we could get a drink! Our departure was the same just got 'OK' when we handed our cards and safe key in 'no hope you enjoyed your stay' or 'safe journey' very diassappointing. It was an older male staff each time and this needs addressing as others will feel the same. It was like we were troubling him and he could not be bothered. The dining experiencing was chaos - just too many to cater for having to wait no plates one day etc and chairs tables too close together so no privacy people push past etc. We did complain re this as did other guests and we could use the facilities in the hotel next door which was fantastic totally different experience and so much better. I would recommend this hotel the food and drink was varied and the themed nights were good but the hotel next door also iberostar was much better for the dining experience. Morro Jable worth a visit the beaches are amazing and the African market in Jandia fab.
We stayed next door in the Gaviotas complex and paid a bit more to get into the Adults Only Star Prestige areas. We went end October, beginning November and it was 28c and the Atlantic Ocean was lovely to swim in. This hotel complex is wonderful as it is right on a 2.5 miles beach at the end of which is the small town. The hotel and staff looked after us superbly and the buffet food was delicious too. Fantastic to get sun, sea and sand at the end of the year, we loved it.
This is an excellent hotel for families. The staff are very helpful & the entertainment staff are full of fun for the children & adults There is a beach just to the rear of the hotel which is beautiful. Plenty of name branded alcohol. We were all-inclusive however chose to eat our at local tapas bar food was amazing Would recommend as a family holiday
My wife, daughter and I had a very pleasant stay here and much enjoyed the excellent food and friendly helpful service. We would like to thank Franziska and those on reception for helping us to find a quieter room.
Stayed here last 2 weeks in August. A 2 hour coach trip from airport, excellent check-in, glass of bubbly on arrival. Suite with sea view was great for 5 of us, 2 big bottles of water in fridge everyday. Food was fantastic, help yourself bar in pool bar, milkshake for kids too, branded ice creams available all day. Pools and grounds were excellent. Staff were fantastic!, so helpful and friendly. 5 minute walk to beach, full use of sister hotel next door. Booked for next August. Can't wait!
Great hotel, staff friendly food good, great hotel if you have small kids, you can use the other Iberostar hotels.Only drawback is distance from airport Excellent holiday I would recommend any Iberostar hotel.
Had a fantastic stay here, staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful, especially with the messy toddlers and preschooler. Kids loved the little slides in the splash pool as well as the "little big slide" in the slide pool. They also enjoyed being able to stand at the very shallow end of one of the main pools, we didn't try any of the other pools. Sunloungers easy enough to get on the way to breakfast or even later if you could be out of easy view of the water. Food was lovely, all freshly cooked with variety though you could eat the same thing every night if you wanted. Plastic glasses in the restaurant would have been useful and saved a couple of broken cups as one of our twins hasn't yet quite grown out of throwing his beakers. Baby section of the mini club is down a set of stairs which would have been awkward had we tried to take all three kids however we didn't try as they loved the pool and the soft play area was only open during kids club hours. Mini disco catered to many languages with at least one song to suit each of the most common guests languages. The different languages didn't phase our three who liked some other songs better than those they knew. children can easily open the door if they can reach, one of ours made it to the lift call button a few times. Floor two was great but I'd request floor three another time as that was the restaurant and mini disco floor so would have been a little easier with buggy.
Lovely hotel, very clean and well kept. Staff were all very friendly and smiley. We spent most of our day at the sister hotel as we preferred the sun deck there and view but as it was so close it felt like one complex anyway. Food was very good at each meal with much variety. The Chinese/ Asian night was exceptional. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is the temperate in the resturant was uncomfortable at times, I understand it's a fine balance to keep food warm but this spoilt it a little for me and we tried to sit by the Windows if possible to get some air.
