Stayed here with a group of friends whilst doing a 200 mile ride around Holland. Hotel is comfortable without being spectacular and has an ok bar and reasonable buffet breakfast. I'm sure the beach it is beside us very nice but it was wet and windy while we were here so didn't see it at its best
We had a seaview room, it was clean and roomy and a great view. There was a bowling alley next to our room which took a bit of getting used to but it was nothing to whine about. The food is great and superior quality as was the breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful.. Free wifi worked great. Nice to see it is pet friendly, being a dog lover, I was happy to see dogs. The beach sign says "keep dogs on lead" but in Winter? No one checks, so let them run. If I was a really picky guest, I suggest they change the mattresses, it was a bit marshmallowy.. Nice hotel
A lovely place to spend a weekend, or in summer a bit longer. The food is very good and the staff is super. They give you a warm welcome and are flexible for anything you want to do, or need their help. A place to get back to!
Nice hotel and place to spent THE weekend. ITS on THE beach with good rooms good restaurant and Nice lounge place with fireplace. Good food For good price. Was in winter here Nice to walk think in summer you have a lot more. From your room in a minut on THE beach. Good service & friendly.
We found a discount offer in our newspaper early this year and went to Makkum for a long weekend stay in beach hotel Vigilante. This is located on the shore on the IJsselmeer just below the Afsluitdijk. It is almost on the beach of this large inner "sea" and well positioned to visit a number of cities that are part of the famous Elfstedentocht ice skating event, like Bolsward, Sneek, Stavoren, Hindelopen, Franeker and Harlingen. The hotel itself is fairly large, only a few stories and many rooms on the ground floor. There is a nice restaurant area with a large open fire and cosy seating around it. There is also a large parking space and the hotel features nice views over the beach and the water. The restaurant serves good quality meals at a fair price and otherwise the center of Makkum is close by (but too far to walk) and there other restaurants are available.
We stayed here overnight in September 2014. It is right on the beach with a path along the beach for walking or biking. It's a peaceful and relaxing place. We just walked and enjoyed the view but did not swim. The restaurant was good and you can sit inside or out. Our room was in the farthest part of the building and actually turned out to be the best part I think. We were on the main floor with our own little sitting area overlooking the beach. There are a couple little shops, souvenir or ice cream type shops here in the central area between the hotels, but that was all. You can rent bikes from the hotel. There was also a playground at the beach toward the other hotel if I remember correctly.
We enjoyed a great long weekend at the Dutch coast of the Ijsselmeer. Hotel location is really at the beach and only seperated by the boulevard. Rooms are spacious with bed, closet, desk/chair and a smaller table and chair. Some rooms have access to either a little terasse or a balcony (ours didnt, but faced the paking lot). It is a very quite hotel - you do not hear the neighbours or the outside noise). Good bathroom with a walk in shower and a large sink with fits that two persons can get ready at the same time. Only issue I had was there are no safe in the rooms and that it is a bit cumbersome to ask the reception to store it a in a smaller safe in their own hotel safe. Would be recommenable to have a room safe available.!! Breakfast is standand - not the largest beuffet I have seen, but gets refilled regularly so plenty for all. Lunch - can in good weather be served outside. Lunch menue is ok and plates are plenty so can be recomemend. Even if you only walk by and need lunch. can recommen thier "Bitterballen" (Dutch fried meetballs), these are like homemade and the best I ever had in NL ! Dinner - smaller dinner card (3 fish/ 3 meat / 2 veggie dishes) and a choise of a days special (fish/meat). Well prepared and for decent money (around EUR 20 per dish). Staff shortage was a problem at the evening serving and we had to wait longer time to make dessert order and get refills on wine ! There is a bowling alley connected to the hotel - not used as we enjoyed the summer weather outside.
The hotel is located on a peninsula 3 km away from the old centre of Makkum town. A mankind created, artificial summer resort with a white sandy beach, camping, hotel/restaurant, ice cream shop and a few tourist shops. The reception staff was not particularly welcoming. There seems to be a strict policy that rooms are not earlier released as from 15.00 (even when they are available). The very standard room (in dark/sad colours) was traditionally decorated. There was a comfortable bed (two singles combined into a double), a small desk, and one chair. The good size bath room had a walk in shower, toilet and sink. Bathroom light did not work as well as the hair dryer. View on the parking (sea view room cost an additional 30 euro). Service at the restaurant was slow. We had a look at the menu (but were not impressed by the standard dishes). In the end it took so long before a waiter came to take our order that we decided to have dinner somewhere else. The breakfast buffet in the (dark) breakfast restaurant was also standard. Bread, rolls, croissants, ham, salami, Dutch cheese, boiled eggs and scrambled eggs. Fresh pear/orange and cut fruit. No fresh orange. Good functioning Internet and good bikes for rent (7,50 euro per day). No fitness centre.
We were there the last weekend of November. The room was cold even though we had the heat up. The comforter on the bed was too thin for the time of year. It is probably a great hotel in the summer but in the winter there is nothing to do. Staff was very nice.
Fantastic out of season location to chill out -great views 360 degrees with lovely views from the balconies of each room. The Restaurant is a real find so don't waste time going out looking for an alternative just take some time to enjoy the sunset. Breakfast was good -plenty of choice and again you just cannot fail to be impressed by the all around views
