An urgent overnight business visit to Bloem with limited accommodation. Managed to get a room at this wonderful hotel. From start to finish a truly memorable experience, pleasant and quick check in, room was fantastic with all that was needed, lounge and dining very pleasant..............what made all the difference...............the staff. I have to say that they were probably the most pleasant, efficient, helpful and accommodating people I have encountered anywhere on my travels. Led by a wonderful manager who made time to come and chat, welcome us together with a run down on the hotel. It was like home from home, nothing was a problem. Due to the KZN storm, we had to spend another night.............they pulled out all the stops to find us a room and continued to make our stay a most memorable one. Thanks to the entire team.
We looked and called every single hotel/bnb place in Bloom for Saturday night after the Rugby match, and everything was booked out. Had very good luck by calling Protea that morning and they had a cancelation for 2 rooms (which we needed). Prices were very reasonable for the room (king bed, 2 people, R1150). But don’t stay for breakfast.... 180 Rand per person buffet?! I mean... it was a nice breakfast... but súper súper pricy in my opinion!! I couldn’t believe it!! Besides that, Protea staff were helpful and nice to me, no other complains!
Upon arrival we were happy that there is free, covered parking with a security guard at the gate 24/7. The room was compact but nice with a comfortable bed. After walking around that afternoon I asked a woman st the reception desk if there was a ball game at the stadium a block behind the hotel. She looked at me as if I was nuts, and told me there was no ball game at the hotel. Obviously I know there is no game at the hotel but I thought she might be able to find out if there was a rugby game that night. Weird overall encounter. Internet is free but you only get a limited amount. Breakfast is delightful.
A colleague and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during a business trip. It was my first trip to Bloemfontein, so I was a bit anxious & didn't know what to expect. We arrived at night & at first drove past the hotel as the signage wasn't very clear from the road.We eventually found the place because we remembered a colleague saying that it was next to the zoo, so we used that as a landmark. On arrival, I was pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome that we received at Reception. Staff were very friendly, courteous & helpful. Rooms were spacious, neat & clean. Loved the origami elephant made with a towel & placed on my bed. That was really awesome. The shower was an open shower in the room next to the bed. Lovely if you are a couple & sharing the room but definitely not okay for 2 colleagues from work to be sharing. Thank goodness we had separate rooms. Meals were fantastic with a huge variety available. A special Thank You to the Chef/Manager, Johann for making special meals for us & for coming out at meal times to take us through the buffet menu & letting us know what was appropriate for us to consume (we don't consume pork, beef or any meals prepared with alcohol). We really appreciated his personal service. Will definitely be staying at this hotel again when in Bloemfontein & will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.
Aircon not working Walls so thin, you might as well watch TV with the person in the next room. Rooms service menu is very limited. TV channels also limited. Really no value for money, will never stay at this Hotel again
Since my last stay at this hotel, I am sorry to report that in my opinion, it went a little south! Well, getting to my room, the safe was not working. Got someone to come and have a look but he couldn't fix. I was offered another room but I decided to give them time to fix the problem the next day. After returning to my room around 14:30, I discovered that nothing was done and reminded them again. Another technician arrived and only changed the batteries and everything worked fine. Why could this not be done the night before? Many 'holes' in the shower rose was blocked! Not a nice shower! Service in the restaurant also not good. Received the ordered glass of wine half-way through the meal after reminding the waiter about my order. Breakfast coffee - well I am still waiting to receive it..... Otherwise, the staff were friendly, room was clean and reception staff was competent, friendly and efficient.
Spent 2 nights in Bloemfontein a week ago and could not have chosen a better place to stay. Loved everything about the hotel. All the staff, from the security at the front gate, reception staff, breakfast room staff, housekeeping....everyone that I came into contact with in the hotel... were friendly and professional. Both the twin room and king bed room were clean and comfortable to stay in. The shower in the twin room has an outside curtain for privacy if you require that. The view from the king room was over the zebra enclosure. Enjoyed the peaceful bird noises with the window open. Not sure why any people have a negative comment about breakfast as there is so much to choose from. Many different cereals, yoghurt, smoothies, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, vegetarian dishes, pastries, pancakes etc. Could've spent a week and still been happy to go to breakfast every day. Overall, loved my stay here and would stay again if in Bloemfontein. Would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
I was quite nervous after reading some of the negative comments about this hotel, but I am glad I did not cancel. I asked beforehand for an early check in and my room was ready for me at 12pm. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I requested two rooms facing the zoo and was given them. I actively looked for poorly cleaned things in my room but could not find any. I found the shower in the room quirky and not a problem at all. No water leaked onto the floor, and there was no steam hanging about in the room. And how many people in the world can say they were watching a tiger from their shower?! It is true that one can hear other guests in the early morning leaving their rooms and talking in the corridor, but that was only for about 30 minutes. I think it is used mostly by business travellers. The garden was lovely and peaceful, and the pool inviting, even in winter. I enjoyed the buffet breakfast and found adequate choice and quality. The short-order cook made lovely fresh scrambled eggs and omelets. Only the coffee from the flask was not hot enough. I am certainly happy to recommend this hotel.
Just a short over night in Bloem, but couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were exceptionally clean. Not to mention the wildlife right next door outside our window. A lovely experience even for the short time we were there.
This has to be one of our favourite hotels in Bloemfontein. Nicely located within walking distance to everything. Very friendly and courteous staff.
