The overall property was nice since it was oceanfront but the pool was drained, the kitchen was under construction so it was a limited menu, and the key access was down so we had to have someone let us in our room for over half our stay. The best thing was the ocean and our bartenders Wendy, Heather and Chelsie.

I am still waiting for a refund. I checked out after the first night. I will take additional action to get my refund processed if necessary. I took multiple pictures including dangerous extension cords, rusted abandoned furniture and discarded wood pieces on a back patio, algae in the pool, etc. I want my refunded proceeded. It’s been over a week.

Horrible experience at the Fred. Upon arrival, was not given the room booked for 8 moths wit sea view a dbalcony,no explanation. Also lear ned that pool and jacuzzi were not working. Terribly disappointing. Service at bar was terrible, on first day it took 1.5 hours to get to drink. Unsettling experience with safety issues and lack of response from staff and security. Unacceptable. Food was very limited and not at all what was described and shown on website. Very deceptive. Beach was small, full of trash and very rocky. Would never return.

Icebox smells of vomit. I asked if they can clean it. NO ONE showed up to check. Water was leaking inside. Pictures covered on the floor. Room really wasn’t prepared very well for guest. Air conditioning was poor. Finally fixed day before leaving. But the bar tenders and cleaning staff made the stay worthwhile. No so much for management.

We had heard mixed reviews of the Fred but we had an excellent experience there. The room was very nice - comfy bed, big shower, two balconies and amazing ocean views. The restaurant was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was great. Would definitely recommend to others.

Property is on the beach, beautiful courtyard environment, lively entertainment, bar service, a pool and a hottub in the courtyard, access to some water events. Grounds were well maintained. Rooms were clean and maintained daily. Front desk attendant, Delia, was very accommodating with requests. Dining is in the courtyard. Limited meal choices. Meals were a bit pricy.

Don't stay at the Fred

The Fred is not Adults only, they allow day guest of any age. Our shower drain was stopped up. We used towels to stop the water from flooding the room. Even after 3 requests we did not get fresh towels. This is a beach front hotel. There is nowhere on site to wash the sand off before entering your room. Because of this there was sand on the floor in the room. On a four night stay, the room was cleaned only once. No place to shower before getting in the Pool or Hot Tub, they were both full of sand. They were repairing the deck outside our room. Work started before 7 am 3 of the 4 nights we were there. Service is the worst we have ever experienced at a hotel. At times, the music played at the bar was too loud to even have a conversation or hear the ocean. The gift shop had boxes stacked up in the room where you are supposed to be able to get coffee and water bottles making it hard to navigate. They ran out of coffee pods and water bottles two days into our stay. Prices for food at the hotel restaurant were much higher than other restaurants close by and not as good.

Fred - Great Place To Stay

We loved staying at Fred. Took us a while to understand the slow paced culture of St Croix … a nice change from the fast paced craziness of our home in Washington DC. While there were a few hiccups during our stay - such as no towels; being ignored by staff at bar; etc - the Fred after we complained made things right. Thanks, Fred, for an incredible stay on St Croix. We will stay there again.

Some of the staff were pleasant and helpful. And the grounds were decent. The room sucked. Bed was awful. They didn’t clean floors. I had to buy a broom and sweep myself everyday. Shower was cold and we had giant cockroaches in our bathroom. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

It seemed at one point in the resorts history it was a very nice chic place to stay, and in many ways it does still have that charm. The problem that i could tell was that the majority of the staff seem more interested in talking to each other than acknowledging the customers and servicing them in a timely manner, (this was not “island time” it went beyond that). Also i found that i heard at least one person say that is not my job and refused to do the most menial task to correct the situation that needed addressing. The facilities needed to be better up-kept, curtains around the bar were starting to mold and tear and the pool grew a greener bottom everyday never once did i see it cleaned. The staff seemed to like to blast very loud music in the middle of the day and the only people seeming to enjoy it was the group of them sitting in the bar area.( it could have been turned down a bit for more enjoyment by all. I am not saying the place is horrible but it is not living up to its potential for sure. The chef made us a delicious dinner, the rooms are interesting and individual in decor, the staff are nice (just not managed well?), the hot tub is top notch (the hottest hot tub ever)! A major plus is that it is located directly on the beach! Would stay there again ? Truthfully if they dropped the price by a hundred dollars a night maybe, but for $300 a night I could find a more accommodating location to stay.

The service at the outside bar restaurant was horrible. Sometimes you walk up to the bar and wait ten minutes or more for someone to wait on you. They were not all wearing uniforms. Most of them had bad attitudes As if they didn't want to be there. One Morning , I waited over an hour for breakfast that I never got. It was a simple pancakes and sausage breakfast. While I was waiting two gentlemen Walked up to get some drinks.Waited more than 5 minutes.Nobody was around and they took off. And said they were glad they decided not to stay there at the fred. The TV's at the bar were not working. The t v's in the room were not working. Rome service was good. The rooms were nice. The room had a moisture problem. With a dehumidifier that stopped working. The hot tub was. Nice.

A bit of an older crowd than I anticipated based on the advertising. The staff was beyond amazing and friendly--they truly made our stay. The views are phenomenal. The hotel is a quick walk to the pier/restaurants/shops. A few cons--not a quiet area. Lots of barking dogs, chickens/roosters, etc. The area seems a bit sketch after dark but we were never confronted or asked for money. The hotel is adult-only, but it is open to the public so there can/will be kids, especially on cruise ship days. The restaurant/bar does run on island time, which is typical in the Caribbean, but there were several people that got frustrated/annoyed. Our tv didnt work the whole week--the staff (multiple) attempted to fix it but it was an issue with the dish/internet. They did try, though. Overall, an enjoyable stay; relaxing with beautiful views and awesome staff that will make your stay.

We paid Grand Hyatt prices for Hotel 8 service. There was a Kerig in the room but no coffee, tea or even cups. The batteries for the ac remote and the room safe were dead. We didn't have satellite service after the first day... The room seemed 1/2 finished: no place to shelve clothes, only a closet, so we lived out of our suitcase. There were a couple of wonderful staff, but most were inattentive. At $311-$368/night one expects better. A LOT better.

Skip this one, unless you want to waste money.

Rough checking in. Apparently no staff showed up to work in the hotel except for two people. We had a store our luggage in a liquor storage closet. When we did get into our room, we had no towels, discovered after taking a shower. We stayed two nights, with no housekeeping during our stay. We had two coffee pods for the first morning and a Keurig coffee maker that barely worked. Lamps on both side of the beds didn’t work. TV didn’t work. Room service was offered, but not available due to staff shortage. Such a shame, because the hotel was beautiful. Staff had a bad attitude, not friendly. Tolerated us at best. Obviously will not be returning to a Fred hotel
