Super 8 Fort Nelson BC2.0 out of 5.0

While one doesn't expect much from a Super 8, this one seems to have built it's business model on taking advantage of people who do not pay close attention to what is on the bill. When you check-in they have you sign to accept your room rate and several "if you use" fees-- but do not specifically tell you that you need to ask for those charges to be removed from your bill when you checkout. (It may have been in the fine print, but you don't really have the time to read it all at the counter with people in line behind you.) If you don't look closely at checkout, and specifically ask for the charges to be taken off you'll be charged. If you do what most people do-- simply tell them you're leaving and have the receipt emailed, you'll be automatically charged for them. So-- if you do end up here, be sure to ask for a paper copy of your bill, and be sure to tell them to remove the "Safe fee" and the "Sustainability Fee." Otherwise you'll be on the hook for an extra $5 per night. Not a lot of money, but it is the principal of the thing-- $5 per room per night is a hefty bit of profit. Additionally, they take a hold of almost twice the room rate when you check in, which is excessive. Not a problem for us, as it was on a credit card; but be aware of that if you're using a debit card. As for the room-- it smelled badly of mold. That may be because it was August and we had to use the air conditioner, but still-- very uncomfortable. Everything in the room was old and had seen better days. The couldn't even be bothered to provide individual shampoo bottles-- there was a large bottle in the shower that had been there for an unknown period. Breakfast was equally lame, with two milk pitchers of unknown type and age set out. Granted this is Fort Nelson, BC-- but there were several other hotels along the strip. We picked this one because it got (very much undeserved in my opinion) top reviews. Any other one would probably be better-- if just because its business model is likely not designed to sneak in extra fees if you're not paying close attention.
We stopped here for the night on our way to Anchorage Alaska. Rooms were ok, but had a strange odor inside. We had to crack the backdoor open to air the room out. I did like that you could park your vehicle directly in front of your exterior door. The waterslide in the pool area was awesome (the kids loved it), but the hot tub wasn't working. We arrived a little later than expected and only had 30 minutes to enjoy the waterslide. I did ask the front desk if there was anyway we could get a 30 minute extension on the pool, but I was quickly denied. Breakfast was good and the attendant was friendly. I mainly chose this hotel for the waterslide, in hopes of enjoying it after a 14 hour drive across Canada. If there is a next time, I'll be sure to arrive early to actually enjoy it.
On our way. back on a 6 week motorcycle trip. Greeted at the front door, lots of helpful answers and told us about restaurants , bike wash, and Jim the Mgr👍🏽. He met with the 5 of us the next morning, showed us where the fires were on our routes. The staff were all friendly and helpful even getting fresh towels for bike wash. We would definitely stay again, clean and love ❤️ the beds and pillows. Thank you, Goldielocks and the 4 bears
We were pleased with the accomodations. Nice pool with water slide kept son occupied for an hour. Pet friendly rooms. The rates are flexible throughout the week. It was worth the money. Fridge, microwave and separate sink for a mini kitchenette.
We enjoyed our stay at the Super 8. I can truthfully say that I can't remember the last time we stayed at one and I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was very clean and well appointed with a fridge, microwave and nice coffee set-up. The beds were super comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean with all amenities and nice towels. The pool area is really cute with a slide and you can be in the breakfast room hanging out and watch the swimmers. The hot tub was down. Breakfast was pretty sparse but there was 2 juice choices, 2 cereals, 2 hot dishes, a waffle maker, a very few bread items and yogurt, no fresh fruit. The breakfast lady was really nice and accommodating. My husband said the coffee was instant and horrible. My tea was fine. The restaurant across the parking lot was good and convenient. I would stay here again.
Hotel was ok. Had a pool with a water slide and breakfast was served in the morning. Stayed in a king room and it could have been cleaner. The carpets were dirty and the bathtub was not very clean and we had to give our 1.5 year old a bath. Towels felt old and worn out. Only giving it a 3 because the next morning the owner stopped by during breakfast to ask how our stay was and I appreciated that.
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while we were volunteering in the area. The room was very clean. There was a minor issue that was addressed immediately. The General Manager Jim was excellent. He drove the Shuttle to and from our work area (unexpected but very much appreciated). We would definitely stay here again.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Super 8 in Fort Nelson. We had a ground floor room and there was parking directly in front of our room with an exterior door for loading and unloading luggage. There was also a door that opened to an interior hallway which was nice since it was raining. My daughter and granddaughter enjoyed the pool during our stay. We all had a nice breakfast with hot entrees offered complimentary by the hotel. There was a Boston Pizza located just off the property which was nice for dinner the night we arrived.
This Super 8 was fantastic, the best one of many I have booked before. The staff, especially the manager, went beyond the norm to make sure our stay, and subsequent travel, was as smooth and trouble free as possible. I highly recommend this hotel.
The staff are excellent! They are willing to go out of their way for you whether it is getting the tv working because of problems with the provider to ensuring guests have enough food at the breakfast buffet that's included with the price of the room. Great customer service! The room had a comfy bed with plenty of space. Along with a fridge, there is a sink where one can rinse out dishes/cups etc if need be. This is in addition to the bathroom sink. That was a bonus. At the buffet were tasty muffins, mix for waffles, eggs and ham. If you need to do laundry $1.50 for a wash and $1.50 to dry. There is a pool with a slide. We were on the main floor and had a door to the outside. We could park right by the room. Very convenient! Just across the street is a Boston Pizza. Very handy.
