We stayed in the smallest cottage on our honeymoon 7 years ago and it was a great experience: clean, quiet, great location, and just a very short walk to the Gulf. And it is affordable. We can't stay there anymore, as we have a young child. But if we could, we would definitely be back. Highly recommended.
I stayed at the Seahorse Cottages last weekend and it was a wonderful stay. When we arrived there was a big sign on our cottage door with my name on it. The door was unlocked and upon entering there was a note welcoming us. The cottage was perfect. A one bedroom with a large comfortable bed. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need. We got a few things at a little store right across the street and we were set. We had a beautiful beach a short walk away. The hotel had everything you would need. There was a grill outside if you wanted to cook on it. If you went to the beach which was a block away they had beach chairs, bicycles and very large wagons to put everything in with giant wheels for the sand. They were very well equipped for everything. I would definitely come back. Ok, the only thing I thought a little strange was that we had to do the dishes prior to leaving or we would be charged an extra fee, even though there were people coming to clean. I had no problem doing that as I have been to many places like this beautiful place. A continental breakfast would also have been a plus. I guess I am spoiled. Again we would come back, just a couple of suggestions.
Just brilliant place to stay amongst the palaces in Sanibell. Very comfortable with everything you could need - Everything! Great location a few steps from both sides of the island and the fabulous beaches. Heaven is a Seahorse Cottage 😎
Charming establishment in a quiet multi-million dollar residential setting. Cottages were nice. It is actually one building which looks to have been originally built in the 60s or 70s with various additions that are the seperate cottages. We stayed in two different units due to booking availability. The small studio is ok, two considerations were that for our visit the cooktop was wonky (required fiddling to get it working or turned off) and that you can hear the neighbors through the adjoining door. Both units showed of recent painting, countertops, cabinets, and furniture updates. A mix of kitchen accoutrements, some seemed original to the development of Sanibel Island others were recently updated. Both units were clean, with nice linens and bedding. The two bedroom unit has a nice living and kitchen area and could be comfortably shared with another couple. Cozy and clean soaking pool. Free bikes and beach chairs were highlights, we used the bikes to ride to Captiva and back on Sanibel's amazing bike trails. Things to bring? Your own cooler for the beach, especially one that would fit in a bike basket. Each of the past owners seem to have invested in keeping the units updated, the two we stayed in still have some updates that could be done, but I would stay again.
We only stayed the one night on our journey up the Gulf coast. Just perfect, the cottages are nestled around a garden full of palm trees and beautiful plants with a outdoor pool and seating. Thr pool is small but as there are only four cottages it was not crowded on our visit The accommodation was very clean with everything you would need to be self contained. There were laundry facilities, and the owner even saved shower gels etc from previous guests so if you needed something the chances are there would be some available. There were bikes free to use as well as beach equipment. We spent some of our evening on the little porch listening to the birds, so quiet and great to unwind. The beach is close by about 3 minutes away walking with some small stores on your doorstep......
The cottage was very nice and it was clean too. We really enjoyed it. We will see about going again in the future. The location is great. The area was full of very nice people as well. We felt welcomed.
If you're looking for luxury accommodations, steps from the beach, where your every whim is catered to, Sanibel is full of this - but not here. Seahorse is a small inn located near the lighthouse. The cottages are small but fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. They're small, but who goes to Sanibel to sit inside? Housekeeping? Nope, pick up after yourself. The rates are very reasonable, with no "resort fee" tacked on for the chairs, umbrellas, bikes, wagons, or any of the other things that are provided. A shell washing station, nets, buckets if you want them, really everything for a beach vacation is provided. Even a pump and some WD-40 for the bikes (rust happens in this climate). We've been coming off and on for many years, and every year for the past 6. The manager, Shauna, is great. She'll provide you assistance if you need it, or just a friendly hello if, like many of us, you come back year after year. The bay side "beach" is about a one minute walk (not much beach except at low tide) and the main beach 5-10 minutes depending on your pace (and if you're hauling a wagon). The wi-fi can be slow and a bit spotty, but the rest more than makes up for it. Come for a stay, and see why we all keep coming back. Our physical home 2 weeks a year, and our mental home the other 50.
This is not a place for children or adults who act like children. The four cottages are connected so any wildness or loudness would annoy the other visitors. This was not a problem on our trip. The cottage is equipped with whatever you might need. It has a small deck off the back, which was good for morning tea. I occasionally saw vehicles of the other renters, but never saw them. In fact, we never even saw the manager. We took advantage of the provided bikes and beach chairs. The pool is exceptionally small as noted by previous reviews, but since we were the only people to use it, it was by far big enough. The beach is about a half mile away. We rode the bikes to it twice, but did not feel competent to carry beach chairs and ride at the same time. There were several cute store within walking distances, too. Inside the laundry room was a book exchange library for the guests. Overall, a restful visit was had.
Just finished a four night stay in a one bedroom cottage ... and a more complimentary review we could note write! So quiet and peaceful, very clean and well-kept, everything about it was outstanding. Shauna’s fantastic and her recommendations for activities and restaurants were right on the mark. We felt as if we were staying at a personal home rather than a rental property - including the private pool, private residential street, free use of the bicycles, easy to use laundry room, plus a private beach to boot. As Island first-timers, this will certainly go down as one of our best-ever vacations, if not the best one yet!
The location is good, very near Lighthouse cafe, East End deli, and Pinocchio's. Adult only is convenient. The room was clean. The wifi worked quite well. My only complaint is the microwave was on top of the refrigerator, making it a tough reach for anyone shorter than 5 feet 6 inches tall. Bring your own shampoo. Free bikes!
