We were booked into the Tilajari for 3 nights as part of an 11-day Northern Costa Rican tour. It is located not very close to any town, but the amenities (pool, restaurant) were superb so we felt no need to go anywhere else except our booked excursions. Rooms were large and clean. The decor was kind of a “rainforest” motif, with lots of dark elaborate wood trim and hand-made-looking furniture. The hotel itself seemed to be built in the forest, and there was lots of trees, foliage and wildlife. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. The large 5’6” deep pool had chairs in shade or sun at all times of day - and restaurant/bar provided pool service. The restaurant, instead of glass windows, had large archways open to the surrounding garden. Many birds and iguanas came very close to the tables and seemed to pose for photos. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed at this hotel for three nights as part of our Costa Rica tour. As we were on a tour the check in process was not really tested with our tour manager having called ahead ensuring all the keys were ready for collection upon arrival. However the welcome we received from the staff at all times convinced me that this would not be a problem. The hotel is made up of a number of blocks of two storey apartments stretched alongside the river each with their own porch area for sitting out at night. The restaurant, bar and pool are behind the reception in its own block and easily accessed by the footpaths alongside the apartments. The evening meal was either A la carte or a set menu with plenty of options on both for the vegetarian amongst us although additional options were provided by the waiting staff also. Breakfast is also served here but please ensure you bring your camera with you to breakfast as they have bird feeders alongside the seating area ensuring a non-stop display of colourful birds provides a visible backdrop throughout breakfast. On a couple of mornings we even had a baby boa on one of the bushes awaiting the birds to come and feed one morning. The hotel has extensive grounds laid out for sports activity but amongst them are enough walks and trees to provide other opportunities with sloths, birds, iguanas and armadillos on the grounds. One morning our party even found an opossum taking a rest on their patio chair. The one failure with this hotel is the butterfly house which was very disappointing. We only saw two varieties of butterfly here and not many of those even for the size of the shelter. I visited here six years ago also and found exactly the same then so this is not a new issue. This could be a highly impressive attraction with a little work as we saw later on in Nicaragua but as it stands is actually a negative aspect for an otherwise good hotel.
Spent three days here. Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and clean rooms. The on-site restaurant had great food. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy as much was the uncomfortable pool chairs and how busy the pool area was on the weekend, otherwise, fantastic stay!!
A quiet hotel in rural surroundings. Large grounds that go down to river, which contains crocodiles and therefore not recommended to get to close to. Room comfortable. Shower good and beds comfortable. Our room had a gap under the door (strip had been torn off) and so some interesting creatures found their way in for me to gently evict! Limited channels in English on TV, those that are being US news mainly. Air conditioning effective. Large restaurant area and bar. Birds fed at breakfast time and many colourful species turn up together with iguanas on a warm, sunny morning. The wildlife in the grounds is mostly birds and reptiles but amphibians also show up and sloths can sometimes be found in the trees. All very clean. Staff all friendly and helpful. Horses on site and riding can be arranged. Large swimming pool. Butterfly house which seemed to contain mostly blue morpho. Lot of fish in the small pond in butterfly house which seems to be severely overstocked. New rooms being added but work in not intrusive. Hotel well placed for trips into the local area especially around Arenal volcano.
We are here for a week sightseeing. Lots of things to do in the local area and slightly further afield. Hotel staff are very smart and efficient. Food of a good quality, very generous portions. Lots of wildlife, sloths, iguanas, beautiful birds. Very nice pool.
From the Friendly Staff to the Country Club Grounds this Resort is Over-the-Top! The room was super clean, my late night Dinner was one of my Best Meals in Costa Rica, the country club grounds, the swimming pool area that looks like an Oceanside Resort's pool in Cancun but without the crowds and the Nature...EVERYWHERE! This is an Awesome place to call Home Base or even for one night. The buffet breakfast was Delicious and the Coffee... Well it's one of the Finest I had in Costa Rica.
My two daughters and I spent 3 nights in the Tilajari hotel hoping for the rain forest experience, but unfortunately we just didn’t get it. We were kept awake until after 03:30 one night due to the people below us having a party “not great when you’ve got to be up at 06:00 with kids” The rooms were very clean, had air conditioning and the restaurant food and hospitality was good, but the actual hotel seemed too clean, no rainforest Wow factor... “ could have been in any hotel anywhere in the world” The grounds are too well kept with manicured lawns throughout very little wildlife other than iguanas and a few birds which visit the restaurant. They need to plant more plants and flowers instead of having all the manicured grass, this way more animals will visit. The hotel has several tennis courts, a perfectly manicured fullsize football pitch and a conference centre, but we didn’t go all the way to Costa Rica for any of these things! It has an enclosed butterfly garden which is poor to say the least and a “botanical garden” which is a joke... I’d recommend for people looking for the same as we were to stay in Fortuna / Arunal where most of the excursions are based. (Excellent Zipline and Horse riding) In summary the rooms are really clean and the restaurant food is good, just unfortunately for us we travelled half way round to view wildlife in the rainforest not to go to a conference centre, play football or tennis.
Excellent location, beautiful gardens and the best staff attention. Great meals and many choices un the buffets and local food. Friendly staff and reasonable prices and always willing to help clients. Clean installations.
A good hotel in a super setting . Lots of birds around and a lot of flora . I enjoyed a guided walk through the grounds and the talk about what we were seeing as well as being able to try different fruits . The food in the bar was good and the breakfasts were enjoyable .
Only stayed here for one night (as part of an overnight excursion) and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility in this basic, but comfortable resort. Had a very tasty pasta dish from the menu for dinner followed by a good nights sleep. Took in the beauty of the views across the river before a tasty and filling buffet breakfast. It was an early departure for our group's onward journey, but I left wishing we could have stayed longer.
