We reserved a room one level above the lowest room size rate and received a very nice upgrade (to be clear we are platinum members), so I don't know how frequently upgrades are offered to others. See our pictures, but the room included a nice sofa, balcony, and very comfortable bed. I'm not sure of the exact classification, but I would call it a junior suite. The bathroom was spacious including a separate enclosed toilet/bidet area which is useful so more than one person can use the bathroom. Also, we received a welcome of sparkling wine, strawberries, and a front desk escort to the room. So it is understandable, we were put in a very good mood! The exterior of the hotel is beautiful and nicely located to the main attractions. We only used a taxi when departing and walked to evening restaurants and all of our sightseeing in Florence over the 4+ days there. The hotel both inside and outside definitely has the feel of a Renaissance palace with large common rooms on each level decorated with ornate furniture fixtures, etc. Other things we really enjoyed about the hotel's location is that there was a craft market on Saturday in the square in front of the hotel and the rooftop bar. I also included a couple of pictures. Breakfast is included for gold/platinum members. The choices were plentiful and I think even better than what was offered at the Boscolo Exedra in Rome. Omelet station, lots of hot food items, fresh fruits, cereals, pastry, juices, and even sparkling wine in the morning. Yes, the Westin is expensive, but if you can afford it, it is a very nice product and location for a stay in Florence.

The Westin Excelsior Florence exemplifies world class hospitality. Beautiful property with very accommodating staff. Andrea at concierge went out of his way to be helpful and we kept going back to him to for advice and suggestions. Highly recommend!

The place let’s you relive the 19th century, great location right next to the river, close to all the nice places of interest. Great breakfast, beautiful and clean rooms. Quite spacious by European standards. Excellent service.

This hotel is in the most beautiful old building with lots of delightful decor touches. The room was quite large with a huge bathroom. Bed is the focal point of the room as it is an ornate canopy bed that is about 10ft tall. Restaurant on the 6th floor has stunning views of the city. Only complaint is there are no irons in the room and you have to borrow one for 1hr at a time.

Our stay started out great, with an upgrade to a junior suite. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was the largest we had while in Italy. The location is perfect everything, on both sides of the Arno is an easy walk. The rooftop bar and restaurant, takes this hotel over the top. Perfect way to end full day in Florence and Tuscany is with a drink on the rooftop terrace. The aperitivo that is offered on the terrace is fantastic, you can make a dinner out of it. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here on a return trip to Florence.

The Hotel is ideally located; if you want a place that is both easily accessible for your rented car but you can also walk around Florence, this place would be ideal. Granted this is not the cheapest hotel you'd stay in, but it offers impeccable service and rather high levels of luxury... the terrace at the roof top is a must see!

When the merger of the Spg group and Marriott, I was able to move points to stay for 4 nights in September/October 2017. I cannot stay enough about this beautiful property. The staff treated us like we were of the Medici family; nothing was too much for them! Claudio spent more than 1/2 hour trying to help us return our rental car and everyone, the concierge desk, the front desk, the doormen, all greeted us by name every day. Incredible! The room was large, beautiful, and though we didn’t have a view we had the wonderful Westin bedding and turn down each night. The hotel sits right on the river with a beautiful rooftop bar that I would highly recommend visiting for a sunset drink and snack. Our visit here was sandwiched in between two Marriott properties(Rome and Venice); this Westin is going to make Marriott have to up its game. Stay here if you can, you WILL NOT regret it!

We stayed 5 nights at the Westin Excelsior, and it was a wonderful experience. The room and bed were very luxe, and the staff was very helpful throughout our stay. It was in a great location, right on the Arno, but a few block away from the center of everything, so quieter than many other locations. I would definitely return to this property in Florence. We were able to take a day trip to Siena which was wonderful. Make sure you have an afternoon drink on the rooftop bar.

westin excelsior has great location, great staff, comfortable attractive rooms. davide who checked us in offered a choice of three rooms that we looked at before choosing. very accomodating. they sent champagne for our anniversary. Jocopo and Andrea were two of the best conscierges I have ever come across in all my travels. location is far enough from crowds so as to be quiet but still walking distance to all sites. get the Firenze card for admission to all the museums if you have three days to see them.

Location is great, it's only a 15-20 minute walk to the city center and the train station. The room was lovely, it even had a view of the river. The staff was very friendly, couldn't have asked for more.
