Hotel Royal, located in a small palazzo, has recently been renovated, with comfortable high ceiling rooms and a wonderful garden. The personnel is very friendly and the breakfast offers many local specialities. There is a large guarded parking lot right in front. Wireless internet is working flawlessly. So I consider it ideal for both business and leisure trips to Florence. We have also seen they have large daily rooms. Some rooms/apartments can be accessed directly from the garden.
We had a chance to stay here for few days, I would like to express my opinion that this is great hotel. Check in was very efficient, high speed internet all over hotel, clean rooms & bathroom. Very polite and friendly staff. Good choice in the breakfast. No so far from main area of Florence. Only positive emotions at this place.
I wrote a great review about this hotel a year ago. As I wrote it, I visited it Florence again this year and stayed here once more. It was a bad mistake, I won't commit again. The hotel's services has significantly declined since my last visit: you have to pay for the wifi not just in your room, but in the common area as well, the elevator became more noisy (my room was next to it and it went on and on from the early morning until late night), there were almost no hot water on the second floor (no pressure I presume), and the breakfast offered less choice than last year. Even for the price this hotel charges one really expects more in 2016.
Original we booked at the Donatello hotel when we arrived there we got the message that the had some 'problems' and we could stay at the Royal hotel. No problem but they didn't apologise once and they talked like they were doing us the biggest favour ever because the hotel has a pool what costs you 8 Euro per day per person. The mister we spoke with (most of the time) at the service desk was not really friendly and sarcastic if we asked something about the hotel or city it didn't feel welcoming or relaxed. We could only pay the tax city, wifi (also payed) and the car parking in cash with this guy. But the next day we could pay part of it by card when somebody else helped us. Overal our room was oke not very clean though, the shower was dirty so I cleaned it myself. Breakfast was limited but oke. But for a 4 star hotel it's definitely a big disappointment. The city centre is a 10 minutes walk so that's really nice! And the parking in front of the hotel for a fair price.
Stayed here in July 2016 with friends for a 4 day break. The staff were very helpful, organizing tours and wine tasting excursions and very knowledgeable on the area for tips on bars, taxis and restaurants. The pool is a godsend in the summer , as it hits 35 degrees in the town, and there is nothing better than getting in after a hot day walking around the city. It costs 8 euros a day but it is the pricing online and worth it! The building is impressive as you walk in, with a big gravel drive, and rooms with high ceilings and beautiful decor. We had a balcony room which overlooked the gardens, but there are only two, so make sure you have one if you want one by booking it especially.
Having read previous reviews, I was concerned to check out the realities. This hotel is beautiful, set in a quiet area, with a delightful garden, full of exotic fruit trees, and (unusually for Florence city) an excellent swimming pool (for the use of which there is an additional charge). The breakfast and room cleaning staff are extremely friendly and helpful, taking care of every detail. Breakfast is ample, decor is appropriate to the historic nature of the property and everything worked properly - although the aircon was a little noisy. Others have commented adversely about the charges - but perhaps they have not properly studied the hotel's policies. If attention is fully paid to all aspects of these (rules are also posted near the lift and at reception, including the requirement to pay city tax in cash) there should be no confusion. This cannot be an easy building to run as a modern hotel, and proper appreciation for its antique style will lead to an understanding of the need for Italian decorum. This is not rudeness - it is efficiency and good management! There is a idiosyncratic wifi system - so be ready to log on and off every time you access it, then your allotted time will last for the hours bought! All in all, we had an excellent 10 day stay - in two double rooms and a single (which each had every convenience, including a fridge, ensuite and tiled floors) - and were very comfortable. My advice to other travellers is to read your contract carefully, then enjoy the style this hotel offers!
We stayed here for 4 days in July 2016 as part of my 50th birthday celebrations. We spent 2 nights on our own and 2 with friends who joined us in the hotel. The hotel itself is delightful, an old gentleman's villa set back from the road with a large forecourt and imposing facade. Inside the rooms are gracious with high ceilings and beautiful decorations, not up to the minute but impressive. We had one of the balcony rooms overlooking the gardens (there re only 2 so don't assume you will get one if you ask or indeed book one) and it was lovely with full height wooden shutters. The air con was good and so was the wi fi for the most part. I found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and courteous. One lady booked my wine tasting course and got me a reduction on a walking tour of Florence as well! They are all more mature staff and possibly don't take too much attitude but I thought they were all wonderful and I would happily go back (tomorrow if I could!) The pool is most welcome at the end of a days sightseeing. It is more of a lounging around in pool than a serious swimming pool, but certainly got my vote in 33 degrees. They don't serve snacks or food so you will need to go out to eat but that is not a chore in Florence. Enjoy.
Great that the hotel has a pool (was an important factor!) as long as you are aware you have to pay 8 euros each to use it!!! Also, the towels they provide in your rooms you are expected to take to the pool and also shower in them (?!) so would advise packing a beach towel to use by the pool. Breakfast is very basic...... Cereal, hard boiled eggs, cheese, ham, very continental but no offering of anything hot! (Eggs, sausages!!) rooms are very clean and do the job. Location is a decent walk to get the the main restaurants and shops, but very doable.
My girlfriend and I spend two nights i Hotel Royal and let me make it perfectly clear - we will never come back!!!! The hotel is very pretty and it's located only 10-15 minutes from Santa Maria del Fiore. But here the compliments stop! The staff is very rude and condesending - almost hostile... Swimmingpool is additional fee, WIFI is additional fee, parking is additional fee........ we where afraid TV og towels were additional fee as well. My best recomandation for future guests - don't go here!!! This is by fare the most unpleasent and unproffessional staff I have ever encountered!
We chose the hotel for the location - walk distance to Santa Maria del Fiore - and the swimmingpool. However, we were very surprised by the additional fees for almost everthing: parking, access to the pool, wifi etc. - read carefully before booking! In addition, the staff at the reception was very rude and condescending, even a bit hostile, making you feel uncomfortable right from the start. Not how you want your vacation to start. We will definitely not come back.
