I had wanted to visit Florence for many years but never managed to get there .My daughter and her husband decided that the time had come so they booked a holiday with Easy Jet for late February .We flew from Luton after driving from Coventry and leaving the car in an airport car park .We were taken into the airport by shuttle bus. The flight was on time and as we were early we had breakfast in Cafe Rouge in the airport before getting on the plane .Boarding was trouble free and we took off on time . Good flight to Pisa airport lasting around 2 hours .We then caught a train into Florence and our hotel was just 200yards away so very convenient .The hotel was Hotel Desiree and is unusual in the fact that it is one of 3 in the same building. We were on the 2nd floor .Nothing special about it but very clean and comfortable and lovely and warm bearing in mind that it was bitterly cold when we went .Continental breakfast and plenty of choice .Served between 7 and 9 am . Coffee machine was in the room . My son in law had booked tickets for the various things we wanted to see but we found that we still had to queue to pick up the tickets and there was a long wait . Then we had to queue again to get in . The queues were horrendous even though it was early in the year . I dread to think what it is like in the summer months . I would recommend that one of your party goes to pick up the tickets while others wait in the queue at the Museum or Cathedral etc . We saw Michaelangelos David and the Cathedral amongst other things in Florence which were amazing . We had a couple of days sightseeing in Florence and then caught a train into Milan to see The Last Supper and the Cathedral mainly . Journey took about an hour each way . On our last day we travelled back to Pisa ont the train and saw the Leaning Tower before gong to the airport for our journey home . We were lucky that our flight was not cancelled as many were due to the snow and icy conditions .While we were in Florence we had a couple of meals at a Trattoria on the Via Nationale just round the corner from our hotel . The best one we found was called Bondi . We all had pasta one evening and a bottle of red wine and a glass of white wine and water costing 43 Euros for the 3 of us . Another one we found was very good called Brincello. My daughter had a seafood pasta and my son in law and I had pork steak and chips plus 1 litre of red wine and a glass of white for 35 Euros . Food prices we found were not too bad and comparable with UK.Journey home was uneventful and we were bussed back to the car park on arrival at Luton airport . The system is great to get your keys as it was very late when we arrived back .Altogether a fantastic holiday and lots crossed off my bucket list .
Booked this hotel for proximity of the main rail station/airport bus shuttle and the short walk to the facility we were visiting, but it is also very short walk to the old City center. when arrived in front of the hotel, my first thought was "oh, one of those again..." as I have been to more then one horrible "hotels" that were improvised within some old big house, and seeing more hotels in the same building, got a bit apprehensive, but in the end we were quite pleasantly surprised - it was well organized, clean, with all the basics one needs for a couple of nights, breakfast was basic but very decent, and what made our experience above average was staff - extremely efficient and friendly, it all made our stay quite comfortable. Read one review about poor beds, but ours were better then in some higher rated hotels, I would think matresses were brand new.Our room was overlooking the street and the street itself was very quiet in the evening and during the night, which was great and then there was loads of traffic and chaos on the street in the morning, but ancient double windows were working great, almost no noise got through.
Lovely traditional hotel, very near the railway station but only 5 minute walk from the Doumo square, which is beautiful and a lovely place to sit and have a drink and watch the world go by The hotel is only small and on the second floor of a building which I think has other hotels in it Reception is manned 24 hours, and check in was very quick . The guy on reception was lovely and upgraded us to a room with a small balcony, which was great. The room was very traditional in style with tiled floors, a comfy double bed, wardrobe and drawers, but with a lovely modern bathroom with a hot shower Breakfast was continental but with a pancake machine, fruit juices tea coffee and toast, and pastries, it was lovely and set you up for a days sightseeing all that florence has to offer..... which is lots The hotel was very quiet and your sleep was never disturbed by other guests coming in late, there is a bar but we didn't use it This was our first visit to florence, and it has some lovely shops, restaurants and bars, as well as lots of churches, museums and art galleries, and is really easy to get around. My only criticism is that I thought it very expensive to eat and drink in the main squares, I'm sure if you went a few streets back you could find things cheaper.
If you're looking for accessibility...this is the right hotel for you. Terminals and restaurants are few minutes walk. The elevator is old but don't worry it's safe. Breakfast is great, staffs are friendly. The only problem was no incline step for luggage before you reach the elevator. If you have big/heavy luggages..problem becoz u need to lift them and take several steps. whew!!
Good hotel, clean and good breakfeast. Excellent location. The service is good, however the wifi is not the best inside the room mainly later than 10 pm. The building is old but nice. Just the elevator is very old and if some guest did not close well the door the elevator does not work.
Me and my boyfriend stayed at this wonderful hotel for the second time. And i can only say again only positive things like the first time. The location is fantastic just next to the SMN train station, room very large with a new bathroom and a comfortable shower. Air conditioning and wi-fi really good. Staff friendly and very good English speaking. I can reccomend again it!
Hotel is in a building with other hotels. The pictures are nothing compare to the facilities. This is a two star hotel or less. The beds are so bad that my back was hurting for a couple of days. The only positive is the proximity to the train station. Florence trip was amazing, but look very closely when looking for a hotel. Pictures can be deceiving. Staff sort of friendly.
We have just spent four nights at this lovely hotel with very friendly and approachable staff. The hotel is in a lovely building which is shared by a few other hotels and has a very quaint old style elevator that puts some new ones to shame. It was very easy to find and to get to as it is only a five minute walk around the corner from the train station. Check in was simple and quick and the person behind the desk gave us a map and a guide for the city. This included a tours that can be booked through the reception area if this is something you would wish to do. Our room was clean, tidy and spacious with a lovely sized double bed. There is ample space to put clothing and there is also an en-suite bathroom which has a shower, toilet, sink and bidet. The breakfast starts nice and early at around 07:15 and finishes at 09:00. There is a coffee machine with various types of drink, a juice machine, pastries, bread, cold meat, cheese and to top it off a pancake making machine were you can watch fresh pancakes being made for you at the touch of a button. There are plenty of places not far from the hotel to eat and drink and all of the attractions are well within walking distance. My wife and I will be visiting Florence again in the future and will stay here again.
My daughter and I enjoyed another stay at this great little Hotel in May. Mirko is very helpful and the location ideal, as it is a few minutes from Florence Station. Easy for day trips to places like Cortona and Arezzo, etc. Our room was charming, with lovely tiled floor and small balcony.
Just stayed for the first time in Florence for 3 days. Little place is within 1 minute walk from main train station (street behind hungry jacks). The downstairs foyer was a little tricky with a stroller (we have a toddler) but old lift works well. Staff are inviting and full of information. Room has all the essentials just a little small. Shower is one of the best we have had in Europe so far and wifi very good. Breakfast is also good. Would stay here and recommend again to others. 10-15 mins stroll from duomo.
