Hotel De Lanzi3.0 out of 5.0

Looked for a central hotel and found the De Lanzi. Whilst, I think it could a freshen up it was clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was nice but the 7.30 am start is too late for some tours and early trains. At to location you could walk to all the main attractions in 10 minutes. And yes I would recommend this hotel due to its cost and location.
De lanzi Hotel is like time Travelling to history with all paintings and design , service was very good , Staff was amazing , room was little bit small but very clean , few steps walk to El-Dumo and all other monuments and museums
As others have said, the location is fantastic! Literally 50 yards and you are at the Duomo. Old style hotel in a lovely old building. Everywhere was very clean and the bathroom was immaculate. Every member of staff we met, the reception team, the breakfast team and the housekeeping team were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. We made the mistake of leaving a window open one night, not realising that as it was warm, mosquitoes are still around. I am very prone to bites and of course the next morning had bites! I explained to the man cleaning the room next door and when we went back to our room later, they had kindly put a plug in mosquito vape in the room! Very thoughtful! They also advised where the nearest Farmacia was so I could get bite cream. Breakfast was normal type, hams, cheeses, bread, boiled eggs, toast, jams, lovely cakes etc. All very fresh and all replenished very quickly so nothing ever ran out. We really enjoyed our stay here, friendly, clean and amazingly convenient to all the sights and good bars and restaurants. Easy to find and 15 minutes walk from the train station. Reception staffed 24 hours a day. Good place!
I booked and payed in advance, as I usually do to get the better price. But this time when I arrived I realized the pictures were tricked. A picture of a magnificent lobby was really a dirty small bad furnished place, you had to access through a tiny dirty and dark elevator. The halls were small with filthy walls and rugs. The room smelled and was tiny and awful. We decided to leave and asked for a refund because they promised something in the web page that was not true. Of course they denied. In a very rude manner, but we prefer to loose the money than staying in such a disgusting place.
A wonderful treat of a place. In the middle of everything--steps (no, really) to the Duomo and even closer to a fantastic gelato place--Grom! Room 309 is a small room that has 2 twin beds, which is what we wanted and it was a little tight because of a table that should be moved out of the room. The view is of the courtyard but i really didn't care about the view because the room was otherwise perfect and we weren't in there but to sleep. it was (no kidding) 102-106 degrees in Florence when we stayed and the air conditioner was really awesome (i'm in my mid 50s and rely on air conditioning to help me sleep). i brought a fan (don't forget a converter for anything other than phone or tablet) which was also helpful. The cleanliness of the room exceeded any expectations and the shower was actually pressured as well as most homes in the US. other thngs about the hotel: great: the staff! friendly, relatively knowledgeable, helpful and always cheery. fine: breakfast. i only got there once and it was bare bones. it had enough to get you started on your day. weird: the entry floor isn't the lobby. go up one flight. and don't mind the neon in the not-lobby or the fact that there is a different hotel on the fourth floor....oh, and you leave your key at the front desk when you leave the building. meh: the elevator. rarely available when i needed it. lots of stair climbing! FYI: Hotel De Lanzi is not a fancy place. if you need to see and be seen, stay elsewhere.and let this place be for those of us who know that a diamond in the rough is more valuable than all the sparkle in the world.
The location was easy to navigate from the Santa Maria Novella train station, although it was a bit trick to lug our luggage on the cobble stone streets. It's right next to the Duomo and a Grom gelato place is 3 steps away from the hotel and a panini shop just around the corner. The lobby is not on street level and there is a tiny elevator that you can use. It literally just fits 2 adults and 2 pieces of luggage! The room is nothing spectacular, but we had all our necessities. All of the staff we encountered was friendly. Two different staff members even went out of their way to call us a taxi when we were leaving, just to make sure that it would come, it was so fast that the taxi was there when we got to the street level. Breakfast was satisfying. The hard boiled eggs were warm! (what a treat!) and even the cappuccino from the machine tasted so good! This hotel was close to all the tourist attractions. You can hear the church bells ringing from your room. We quite enjoyed that as it's part of the European charm, but for those of you who don't, then maybe this isn't the hotel for you.
Location is fantastic! Super close to the Duomo. Rooms are quite dated and in desperate need of an update. Our shower flooded the first night - we told the front desk the next morning, assuming it would be fixed at some point during the day. That next night we got back late to our room, my husband took a shower, and again it flooded (literally in 2min). I was not even able to shower. The front desk (at midnight) thankfully brought up fresh towels to mop up the slop. In the morning, checking out, we again informed the front desk, asking for some form of compensation (even just internet fee waived) and were yelled at in the lobby in front of other guests by one female employee (the breakfast room is also well within earshot). The other employees seemed embarrassed by the outburst, but no one intervened. Since we were keeping out luggage there before we left that afternoon, we dropped the entire situation out of concern our things would be tampered with. We felt rooms should be outfitted with the basic necessities: clean beds, clean bathroom, and functioning shower. The hotel staff did not feel the same. Internet is NOT free, Breakfast is fine - not expansive but certainly enough to start your day. Customer service is obviously not valued here.
If you're looking for an affordable hotel with an amazing location, this place is perfect. My friend and I stayed at De Lanzi near the end of June as part of a 2 week tour around Italy. We were on a fairly tight budget and De Lanzi was a good fit. The location literally cannot be beat; it is within walking distance to almost everything you would want to see in Florence, not to mention you step outside and see the Duomo. The room was dated, but very clean and the bathroom appeared to have been renovated fairly recently. They provided an all you can eat breakfast buffet and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
Central, clean, friendly. Great breakfast. Third-floor rooms have views. Lower floors look on to inner courtyard. Rooms are small, but big enough. You don't come to Florence to stay in your room. A fridge in the room would have been nice, but that's my only complaint.
Great position lovely staff. Small room with no tea and coffee making facilities or fridge. I personally like to have a cuppa when I wake up getting ready for the day so this was a little inconvenience. Breakfast was a little chaotic and basic but not enough to detract from the position. I had hurt my back while I was staying and the staff were great at organizing a doctor to come to the hotel very much appreciated as a single person. If they could just put in a coffee maker in the lobby it would be perfect.
