Apollo Hotel Almere City Centre

4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed for 2 nights at the Apollo hotel. The rooms are nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable. This is not a boutique hotel but more a nice place to crash. Cheaper than central Amsterdam and only a 26 minute train ride from the city on the great Dutch trains. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and everything you would expect from a European hotel. The only negative was that the water pressure in the shower could have been better but it was adequate. Be aware that the hotel has a bar/restaurant with a micro brewery attached. The beer is very good and worth trying. Even though the bar was busy you can't hear any noise from it. Rooms also have air conditioning and a small safe. The hotel is close to Almeres shopping area and local restaurants. I highly recommend the Greek Yamas restaurant for food and service.

Let's start with the good things: The location is beautiful and this hotel was a good alternative to the over-priced Amsterdam hotels, being only a 20-minute train ride away from the city. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, parts of the staff were nice. Now on to the not so good things: I've been to other 4-star hotels (maybe the rating is different in NL?) and the greeting was always exceptional. Here, not so much. There was no warm welcome, no smiling, no information on anything, and no question as to whether we have any questions. I quickly filed this under "Dutch customer service" but I honestly don't think this is the kind of impression one should get at a 4-star hotel. Then, the bathroom "door" (basically just a sliding glass wall) didn't close all the way. It's not something that will make your stay impossible but it's something to point out. Also, the room doors are incredibly loud if they are not closed with extreme caution (despite having a door check!). Then there was the TV - we were super happy to see it had a Netflix app. But only for a short moment. The TV remote didn't work correctly and we weren't able to type in any login details. This, of course, isn't a huge deal in and of itself (we didn't come there to watch Netflix, after all) but the receptionist's reaction made it into one. She told us to do what we had obviously already tried and said there's no technical staff on site and she couldn't help us. The response to my question if we could change rooms was a simple "no". Again, at other 4-star hotels I've seen the staff go out of their way to make up for something not being 100% right. Her colleague the next morning did offer us to change rooms if housekeeping couldn't fix the problem. As we got back very late, we didn't ask about it anymore but it was obvious that housekeeping had not tried to fix it (the remote had not been moved at all). So while not being able to watch Netflix isn't a big deal at all, being lied to by the staff and being treated the way we were is simply unacceptable. So, if you're just looking for a place to sleep, this hotel is good (if you don't mind the noisy doors, that is). If you're looking for service that you'd expect at a hotel of this class, then put your money elsewhere.

The hotel location was very good. You can either walk through the centrum or get a tram to it. Staff are very friendly. Room itself is clean, spacious, and has a very comfortable bed. Hotel is right next to a wonderful shopping area with many shops and places to eat.

Nice and modern hotel very well located in the center of Almere. Same for the room, modern, clean and designed with taste. Very smooth and fast access by car to the parking right under the hotel. Awesome moment in the bierfactory.

We had a good stay here. Staff really helpful with getting a bed for our little one (1 year) in place. After the renovation last year, the newly decorated breakfast room is a delight - both in respect of food offered as well as the design.

- No Lobby - No cafe or waiting area - Bathroom door does not close - Aircondition blows hot air - Towels are too small and worn out - No tissues in the room - Room telephone has no directory or instructions to use it. Have to physically go down to the reception to ask - Windows very high, you need to stand on a chair to see outside.

Modern and young athmosphere. Very good beds and breakfast. Nice staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Parking was very expensive, could be good if the hotel made a special deal for their guests! An overall good experience.

Great hotel with proper price and great view outside the hotel. And if would be better if you serve coin washing machine. And if would be better if the food served during breakfast can be changed at least one per week.

Excellent hotel for a family. Staff and service was very good. The room was clean and very specious Price was perfect. Breakfast was delicious and tasty. We will definitely visit this hotel again soon.

A Good stay. I can recommend the Hotel😄 Our Room was very big and clean. Only that the hotel was without Breakfast. The Breakfast costs 17,5€ per Person. I think it's a lot. Parking for more days, at the Hotel was not possible.
