Having stayed previously at the Roadhouse we didn't hesitate in booking there again as the springboard for our Fish River Canyon hike. What a fantastic surprise it was to find our ol' friend wearing a spanking new coat ... the entire resort has just undergone renovation and is magnificent. The decor is perfect for the location ... and of course cleverly "motor" themed at every turn ... even the old wrecks adorning the landscape are strategically placed so the headlights which go on at night illuminate the pathways! Genius! The restaurant serves up delicious Namibian fare and the wine list is generous and cheaper than home! Pair that all with comfortable rooms and friendly service and you have a recipe for a great stay.
I had been told by a few people that this was a must stop and it sure is. Excellent location, the rooms were clean, tidy and spacious and food the food was also very good. The decor is truly outstanding for such a remote locale. 5 stars from us!
Nice Guesthouse not far from the Canyon and Ai-Ais hot spring - in terms of Namibian distances. We visited both and covered 170 km. Breakfast and dinner were fine and the staff friendly. The room was silent and clean.
We stopped at the Canyon Roadhouse for some petrol and a light snack and absolutely loved this place. Full of old cars and other classical items, it had a very unique atmosphere to it, one that is worth travelling to even if you don't need any of their services. We also spotted some zebras just north (about 8of there where there is a
Really nice camp grounds with well equipped ablutions. When we got there other caravans were parked on our campground. We quickly sorted this out with management and really enjoyed our (short) stay. The sights are unbelievable. The camp grounds and ablutions were clean and tidy with hot water. The showers and toilets are a bit dark as there is no electricity - but it was still well maintained. The little shop was great too and offered a little bit of civilization before departing for central Namibia.
This is a must visit for anyone wishing to see the Fish River Canyon. It's a unique idea, simple but incredibly functional. The staff are amazing and the food plentiful and very good. This was our first point of stay in Namibia and was hard to beat.
We stayed one night during our trip in Namibia. Well located in the route to Fish River Canyon. With large rooms, comfortable, pretty well furnished, route 66 decorated. Really nice breakfast. Strongly recommendated to people who loves cars and motor, to stay or just pass by.
We stayed at the campsite (#1) for one night. Pre-booking was easy. The ablution facilities superb and the private campsite has everything you need. Only that campsites are close to each other and a bit of traffic going through and making dust was a bit disturbing. The dinner was excellent. Game steak as well as the vegetarian options are great. I don't have to mention the atmosphere and design of the restaurant and little shop - it is just unique. Prices are very fair.
We camped at Canyon Roadhouse for two nights. We loved the restaurant and all the old memorabilia. However, drinks are very expensive (N$30 for a Tafel Lager, compared to six Tafel Lagers at a grocery store for N$45). Our braai area at the camping site is also in need for repairs. The bottom slab is almost absent and we had to reconstruct the braai with rocks just so that we can have dinner. With all this said, the camping site is perfectly situated close to Fish River Canyon, making it the perfect stop over to the canyon.
We stopped here for a one night stopover on our way up to Etosha. As you arrive, you are mesmerized by the vintage car "graveyard". So quaint, you are in love immediately! As you walk into the shop/restaurant/bar/reception, the enchantment continues. The rooms are beautifully decorated and clean! Breakfast was delicious and we were sad to leave. We will definitely stay here again!
