Stayed here for 5 nights and paid for other family members to stay too, as we got married in St Andrew’s. Stayed here previously. We love this hotel, it’s location etc, however during this recent stay we noticed standards had slipped, mainly on the customer service side of things. Breakfast service seemed chaotic one morning; restaurant half empty, ages to get seated and served, disinterested serving staff. Also the choice of breakfast offerings seemed quite limited. For 5* there should be more choice. One morning we walked in on the maid and our tea cups and spoons were being cleaned with just water in the bathroom sink, was quite off putting! Reception called to say my wedding flowers had arrived and offered to bring them to my room. The staff member who delivered them was miserable, didn’t wish us a good day and I even gave her a tip. What was lovely however, is that we got a complimentary bottle of champers and a card from management when we got back, lovely touch. Upon checking out, there was confusion over one of the suites we paid for and then got overcharged, despite us challenging the receptionist about it. We were right and currently awaiting a refund. The receptionist dealing with it wasn’t overly helpful and again, bit of a misery. Some members of staff just didn’t look that happy. We spent a fortune at the hotel and it puts a dampener on things. Currently at Gleneagles on honeymoon and it’s a completely different vibe with extremely attentive, friendly staff.
Large rooms, with very nice furnishings and overlooking the famous road hole at St. Andrews. I saw golfers walking up the fairway and was able to watch them putt out on the green. The hotel has a very nice pub with great service.
This was a once in a blue moon treat, and well worth it. We had the cheese soufflé and scallops to start, then cod and fillet steak for mains, finished off with chocolate mousse and the cheese platter. Could not fault one bit of this meal, and as you would expect, service second to none. Stunning views from our window table, we had a meal to remember. Big thanks to Chef Hollis and his team.
Myself and husband had a one night stay here and absolutely loved it! We had a suite over looking the golf course, fantastic view. The suite was fantastic, very spacious with a separate seating area, huge comfy bed and a lovely bathroom with a great bath. The hotel itself is so nice and we had a good look around and a walk by the golf course, my hubby is a fan of golf so he was in his element. We got use of the spa facilities for free which was great. Although initially we did have massages booked but the were cancelled a few days before our stay, the annoying part is, no explanation was given and no alternative offered! I was quite miffed about this as I had been really looking forward to the massage. I understand cancellations sometimes happen but the way it was handled wasn’t good at all. We went to the bar for cocktails which were fab and we had breakfast next morning and had a lovely view over the golf course. The hotel is fantastic and I will definitely go back but for 2 nights this time and I’d like to spend time having a wonder around St. Andrews.
Husbands treat which was amazing. Beautiful public areas, beautiful rooms, a view to die for, fab brekkie with smoked haddock and poached egg to order. Fish and chips in ‘The Jigger’ a must. Oh and the glass of fizz on arrival was the bees knees. Thank you for a fab stay.
What a fabulous place! We stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful time . Service is first class and the breakfast amazing! The recently renovated spa is fantastic . My favourite was the hydrotherapy pool. On a freezing cold April day it was just what we needed. The changing facilities were perfect, showers powerful and the complimentary teas and coffees in the gym reception area were a nice touch. I will def be back with my girlfriends for a treatment or 2 in the future. The outside hot tub was also beautiful. Staff all go out of their way to deliver a 5 star experience.
Elegant, superb service and quality, clean, and accommodating staff... and the pool was marvelous for the kids! If you have the opportunity, you have to go to the Old Course Hotel and try to get a room with a view of the course. It was so charming to watch two older gentleman tee off first thing in the morning with their dogs tagging along, playing such a legendary and stunningly beautiful golf course. We would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for an amazing memory of St Andrews, Old Course Hotel!
I took my mother here for an afternoon tea treat. The welcome we received at reception was warm and friendly and we were told that afternoon tea was to be served on the fourth floor due to the bad weather it would not be served in the conservatory (fair enough). The room in which the tea was served was stunning and had beautiful views over the beach and golf course. The staff were attentive and very professional which we appreciated. The the actual afternoon tea itself, honestly such a let down. The sandwiches were stale, obviously had been prepared previously and had been sitting out for a while as they were dry and tasteless. The cakes were nice although again were quite dry which makes me think they were preprepared and had been sitting out for some time. The scones really didn’t look much but were lovely in taste so no complaints there and the champagne was lovely (so my mum tells me). This all cost £60, now that’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things but I would have expected a higher quality of food. The establishment is lovely, the staff are great, the afternoon tea lacks the basics. It’s not acceptable anywhere to serve stale sandwiches. I hope the establishment takes this on board and rectifies the situation rapidly as you will lose repeat business if you don’t.
Haven't stayed for while and looked forward to a return visit. I couldn't believe it would be better than the last time but it was. Check-in was smooth as usual and the welcome glass of prosecco always does the trick. Room was amazing and whilst not golf course facing had a nice view to the countryside. Spacious room with comfortable beds and a small lounging area with relaxing armchairs. Excellent bath, shower and toilet facilities. Dinner in the Sands restaurant was first class and breakfast was brilliant as usual. The spa facilities are fabulous and perfect for relaxing after golf. The new gymnasium and pool area looks great too. Staff can't do enough for you ensuring another pleasant stay. It's always hard to leave this hotel, terrific stuff. Thanks.
Everything about our experience before and during our stay at the Old Course was exceptional. A turely 5 star hotel with a really comfortable, attentive atmosphere. Rooms are beautiful and we benefited from a fantastic view over the Old Course. Breakfast in the Road Hole was superb as was dinner in the Jigger Inn and Sands Grill. Every member of staff we encountered or just passed in the corridor greeted us in a genuine, friendly way. We were lucky enough to have the Spa as a complimentary inclusion to our break. I think this may be the only thing that would let a guest experience down in the future if they had to pay an additional £40 per person, per day. It is a beautiful Spa but nothing more or less than I would expect for a 5 star hotel. Special thanks to Francessca who greatly assisted prior to our stay. Our new special place and will definitely return on a regular basis.
