Great spacious room, spotless clean and with a superb view to Pico Island. The restaurant offers various options for breakfast as well as many 'à la carte' options for lunch and dinner. There's a small spa (jacuzzi, turkish bath, sauna) & gym on the top floor, free to use. The hotel is located right next to the harbor and in the city center. The staff was always super friendly.
Spent a week in the Hotel do Canal as part of a Whale watching trip. It's a modern, friendly hotel. Our room was spotless and had a pleasant view over to Porto Pim. I'm sure the views to the front over the harbour and Pico were even more special. We didn't dine in the hotel. Breakfast was typically European, copious, varied and reliable. There was always plenty of space to find a table. Bar and terrace staff were pleasant and friendly.
This is a modern and spacious hotel, probably developed in the 1990's. There are great views across the harbour, it is spotlessly clean and there is a very good breakfast selection. It is a little dated and soulless though.
Having read some of the reviews on here of this hotel, I was not expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the rooms and found it to be very clean, with no unpleasant smells. The bed was very comfortable and the room was furnished to a high standard. Unfortunately the lounge overlooking Pico seemed to be permanently “reserved” which was a shame. Service was very good, throughout the hotel. I suspect that the main reason this is the #1 hotel on Horta is that it is in by far the best position and for hotels of this standard, there is not a great deal of choice. All the hotels we stayed at in the Azores were owned by the same group, Bensaude Hotels. The food is quite similar in all of them, perfectly good and plentiful. The local cheeses are delicious. Even by London standards, the drinks were expensive, however it must be taken into consideration that everything has to be imported here. Horta is a really lovely place. Be sure to visit the Dabney's House, which has been turned into a small but fascinating museum and the very modest entry fee also entitles you to visit the aquarium, further down the road, which is a leading force in rehabilitating fish and marine species. It is a short walk from the hotel, across a sandy beach. Reception will tell you where to go; out of the hotel, turn right and keep going! Also not to be missed is the Scrimshaw museum above Peter's Sport Cafe and the paintings all along the harbour walls. Faial is a beautiful, lush island and very unspoilt.
I was staying at this hotel for long three month. So happened that I had a tragedy in my life but had to be on Faial island. I am an experienced traveller, have been for business and pleasure around the world and stayed mostly always at 5 star hotels. This hotel is not a luxury hotel, but it is friendly, warm, clean and welcoming. Not the pure gold sealing like at 7 stars hotel in Emirates make you feel better when you almost cannot live, but people who are around. There was no smile on duty on stuff member faces, but genuine smile and friendly looks. I adore all of their workers, starting with the manager Arlene and finishing with the doorman. Concierge will help you in every possible way. Cleaning lady are all so nice, waitress in the restaurant, everyone. I feel sorry that I dont remember names, but if I do i should wrote everyone name. Breakfast selection is big. Even Champaign. And local cheeses which are so delicious. Dinner manu is big enough and every dish cooked to perfection. And the hotel has Turkish bath and sauna. It is such a huge plus, to come back to hotel from walking outside and enjoy the heat of the Turkish bath. Location is just perfect, close to everything. The best restaurant on the island Athletico is near. One week prior I stayed at the hotel Horta and am so happy that I moved to do Canal. You can't even compare this places. Wonderful hotel with wonderful people who want to make you happy. Thank you all. Hope that my review will help to choose the hotel when you are on Faial.
We recently stayed at this hotel whilst on tour of the azores in faial island. The hotel is situated facing the harbour area and within easy access to the town centre which is only about 8 minutes walk from the hotel. The rooms are spacious and have bath/shower facilities. The food is very good with good choices on a buffet basis both for breakfast and dinner. The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant.would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Horta.
We were booked here through a package tour. Pleasant hotel. Great breakfast buffet. Nice, well appointed rooms. VERY nice towels. Comfortable beds Very Clean. Great Location. Walking distance to nice restaurants Great view of the sailboats in the port. Easy access to ferry for Pico. Nice decor. There was a large group staying here at the same time as us, but we hardly noticed. The staff is well trained to handle the big groups and it never seemed crowded or loud as a result Nice Work! Would recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Faial
Good modern hotel with excellent location and own undergroudn car park. It lacks a pool which is a pity but does have a fitness centre. Breakfasts were quite good though watery fruit juice. Very close to some nice restaurants
Stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour for three nights. Our original room faced the road at the rear. As the roads are constructed from volcanic cobbles, the traffic makes a lot of uncomfortable noise. I asked the staff at reception if they had a quieter room and was greeted with a smile and amiable chap who, after a couple of minutes, gave me a change of room which turned out to be far more amenable. For this I thanked him and moved my cases. Tip, therefore, is to request a front or side facing room away from the road noise. The hotel is of a good standard with quite comfortable beds and pillows and a large bathroom with a good, powerful shower, great for waking you up in the morning. Free wi-fi is readily available and of a reasonable speed. Breakfast is also of a good standard with a mixture of hot and cold buffet each day. Sausage and bacon are alternated by day, but excellent scrambled eggs are served daily. The hotel is a medium walk from the ferry which, in half an hour, will whisk you across the water to Pico Island where you can explore its rugged volcanic coast line. I would certainly stay here again if I was to return to Horta.
Rooms pretty ordinary ,more akin to those of a standard business hotel ,no views at all except to those rooms at the front of the hotel. However the staff and quality of food served in the restaurant more than compensate for the rooms lack of character.Quite often hotel restaurants fail to deliver on service and food quality ,not so here, both very good.
