Lugogo Sun Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

I went back to Swaziland after 22 years and found things almost exactly the same. The Lugogo Sun hasn’t changed or upgraded at all. Reception and breakfast room could do with sunlight and happy colors. The rickety elevators seem like they will shudder to a stop anytime. Rooms are average size with twin beds, too soft mattress, lumpy duvet and empty pillows are standard. Tiny bathroom with ancient taps and shower curtains really need attention. On the positive side, staff are ultra friendly and helpful. Breakfast was relatively varied and decent. This hotel needs a major makeover, where’s Ramseys Hotel Hell team?
The hotel represent the worst treatment and policies I am yet to experience in the entire continent. I am of the view that it cannot get worse than the experience I have received from the staff in the name of 'policy' when I tried to bring takeaway food on the premises of the hotel after I checked in and I was not hungry to use their old restaurant facilities on the premises. I have been privileged to travel and experience hospitality in at least 40 countries in the African continent and nothing begin to describe Lugogo Hotel in Mbabane. If you are a rational and clear minded person who holds themselves to some standards do not check into the hotel on any day.
The staff is simply the best. From the minute you step in the hotel... they are so helpful. The wifi is tricky, once sorted less of a headache. Bongani... you are such a great person and a five star asset to the tourism industry.
The hotel looks like a bad 70s apartment block, but once inside the rooms were large and very practical. We had a room facing the pool. The pool is a good size for swimming. There are not many places to take a stroll as the hotel is beside a highway. The room was big with 2 double beds. Tea, coffee, a kettle and an ice bucket with ice was provided. No bar fridge. There was in-room safe and power points designed to take international adapters. Wifi kept dropping out but worked quite well at non-peak hours. Part of the shower curtain was designed to be stuck to one side of the wall, so if you did not position the curtain properly, water will flood the floor (a lesson learnt!). Bathroom amenities were quite basic. Recommend you use your own. I was told there was a complimentary bus to the local casino, but I did not use it. As this is a tourist hotel, dinner was buffet style. The Ilanga Restaurant is set around a square of serving area. The most popular station was the stir fry where you can choose your own meats, vegetables, noodle and sauce and the station chef will cook it in front of you. Other stations had roast meats, Indian curries, rice, potatoes and several selection of desserts. At peak times, it was difficult to discern the start of the queue. Breakfast was also similarly set up. It took a while for the coffee/tea to arrive. However considering the crowds, plates were cleared quite quickly. Staff were polite but a bit slow sometimes.
The place is in a good spot and although it could do with some updating it was fine. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast has a good selection. The big downside is the WiFi. It’s not very fast - which is ok - but I kept getting cut off and then had a message saying my data limit for the day had been exceeded. I’m not sure how because the speed was so slow and I was out all of the days and into the evening.
Nice, relaxed hotel with a lovely pool area and friendly staff. Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable. We loved being on the ground floor with easy access to the pool and well kept grounds. Good choices for breakfast and dinner. We travelled with our two children aged 11 & 9, along with my 75 year old father-in-law. It was perfect for our needs and a really enjoyable experience in this wonderful country. Recommended. Sydney, Australia
This is an older property and it show its age a bit, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The grounds and pool are both lovely, and we enjoyed having a room with a small patio overlooking the pool. Heads up: no clock or wash cloths provided at this hotel. The buffet meals were excellent.
Stayed for one night as part of an organised tour. Hotel was perfectly adequate, and considering how poor the country is the quality was above what I expected. Meals were fine, but breakfast was a bit of a scrum. There is a pool, but it is only waist deep!
We had a one night stay at this hotel as part of an organized tour. It was a suitable choice. Our room was comfortable and clean and the bed was comfortable. There is a nice outdoor pool area with a bar where we were able to relax late afternoon. In the evening we had a pizza in the lounge/bar area and it was quite good. There is a complimentary shuttle to the nearby casino. We ventured over but it was small and didn't really offer much as casinos go so our visit there brief. The breakfast buffet, which was included, offered adequate choices but it was very crowded and hectic.
This is an older hotel, they still have room keys to open the door. Make sure you take your key with you, because the room locks automatically once closed, which is good. You think you need to turn around and locked the door with the key, but you don't. Breakfast was good. There were a couple of power blips, but did not last long. Elevator was a little wonky. It would try to shut on you as you walked in or out. I don't know if there were sensors that would make them open if there was something in front of the door, I didn't linger too long to find out.
