My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. We had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool (in the distance). The bed and pillow were very comfortable. The staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. Wine tasting was offered each night in the cellar at 6pm. A very interesting and informative tour of the convent is offered each night at 5pm. The hotel is privately owned and new rooms have been added and renovations done. The old part is still very interesting to see. One interesting point to make is that even though it is called a convent, there has never been any nuns there, only monks. They are buried outside in unmarked graves but the aristocracy are buried in the beautiful church in crypts and under the floor. The buffet breakfast was very nice, as was the freshly squeezed juice every morning. We had dinner there one night which was very nice. The service was excellent. Wines were recommended, explained and served by the sommelier. We were given a pennyroyal liquor on the house then another drink was suggested. I wasn't sure if this was also on the house but when we got the bill, it was over 10 euros per glass! It was too cold to use the swimming pool unfortunately. We did go to the spa on 2 occasions. We had facials and massages. 100 euros for a one and a half hour facial. All very nice as were the staff and ambience of the salon. The restaurant and spa are expensive but we knew they would be and decided to treat ourselves. If we were closer to town, we probably would have used the spas' and restaurants there. It is a 10 minute drive into Evora and costs about 8 euros in a taxi-more at night.
Located outside the old town - this is an old convent spread over a nice garden. Nicely restored, they have added new wings that have modern updated rooms with everything you expect in a luxury hotel. The staff were warm & welcoming - very helpful in making suggestions & reservations for places to visit & restaurants etc. They have an excellent restaurant - the food was delicious & Michelin starred. Breakfast is served each morning in the same location & was varied & plentiful. They have an outdoor pool & the spa services are fine. We tried out their massage & the masseuse was very good. Overall - we spent 3 nights here & enjoyed it very much. Free parking & the ease of which to get around the area was also good.
Beautiful old history rich convent . Spg platinum recognition on all fronts including suite upgrade (which we needed after a long transatlantic journey )by friendly and helpful staff . Perfect breakfast. Convenient close to UNESCO evora city . We would always come back when in Portugal . I would upgrade indoor/outdoor pool and gym a bit (luxury collection....) but otherwise perfect.
I chose this Hotel for a three nights stay in early December. It is located around 4 km from the center of Évora, in what was previously a Convent, that was fully restored. We spent the mornings basically discovering every corner of this unique Hotel and all its pieces of art - being the highlight the Chapel - and in the afternoon we would visit Évora. Breakfast is included and is very good (apart from the waiting, but we were there for a long weekend, and they were clearly full). We were given a classic room and a design room, and the latest was clearly more recent, and had a nespresso machine (that I missed in the classic room). Both rooms had all the necessary amenities, including a robe for a child, much appreciated, and rare to find even in 5 stars hotels. The large balconies had nice views of the surroundings. Wifi was free of charge and worked fine. Service was impeccable. The indoor pool was a tad bit cold for me, but the Jacuzzi was perfect. There is also a small gym available. We had a very enjoyable stay!
Although we didn’t stay at the hotel, we stopped to have lunch at their restaurant. Very elegantly decorated, superb food, exquisitely presented. Impeccable service. I plan to return there at the very first opportunity....
Our stay at Convento do Espinheiro happened by accident because of a scheduling error on my part...and what a happy accident it turned out to be. This converted convent is truly luxurious, with beautifully appointed rooms and just enough original decor to maintain the building's historic integrity. Meals are served in the old wine and olive oil cellar which is easily the most gorgeous room on the premises. Breakfast, included in the price, is a wonderful spread including some of the best croissants I have ever eaten. In addition to the bread, jams, meats, cereals and fruit, there is a cook-to-order egg station. Coupled with the ambience of the room, breakfast could not be better. Also included are a wine tasting, featuring wines made from local grapes, and a tour of the facility, offered in both English and Portugese. Hearing the history of the convent served to bring the property to even greater life. The service was exemplary, the bed comfortable and the mood divine. The walled city of Évora is a 5 to 10 minute drive and is a must see in Portugal. I have never been more glad to have made a mistake otherwise I would never have stayed here. It is worth it.
This hotel was one of those spectacular properties you think about long after you have left - it is 100% worth the visit. Having the opportunity to stay in a restored convent is impressive enough, but both the service and friendly staff made this visit truly memorable. As Platinum guests, we were upgraded to a beautiful suite with a very large terrace - we only wish we had arrived sooner to enjoy it for longer. If our trip itinerary had not been so packed, we definitely would have opted for another night because we simply could not believe how beautiful it was. Gardens surrounding the property are gorgeous with lemon and lime and olive trees. Beautiful outdoor pool and an even more impressive spa inside with a turkish bath, sauna and pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was superb - high quality and vast selection in yes, you guessed it, beautiful surroundings. In all my travels around the world, this hotel ranks in the top 3 for sure. Do not miss your chance - if you are considering splurging, this is the hotel to do it! Thank you Convento do Espinheiro - magnificent stay!
This property is amazing! Take time to wander the halls and gardens to appreciate all that it has to offer. Rooms were lovely with the most modern of conveniences, staff was charming and always willing to help. Buffet breakfast was a bit chaotic but had many offerings. I wish we could have stayed more than one night.
What a glorious place!! We stayed in the original part of the monastery— where kings and queens have slept. I felt like a queen. And the bidet!!! It did everything at the temperature you selected. Best bathroom ever! The hotel contained a beautiful church adorned with gorgeous blue tiles depicting the life of Saint Jeronimo. The wine cellar was beautiful and unique. The delicious full breakfast was served in the exceptional restaurant. And then there was the luxurious Spa and outdoor pool area. The hotel is part of the SPG Luxury Hotel Collection. Service was top notch. A 10-12 minute cab ride to the walled city of Evora. Definately one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Portugal. We hope to return to the Convento and stay longer.
I only stayed here one night, but it was so amazing. This is a converted monastery and still has a chapel. The rooms are comfortable and plenty of public spaces to move around. The staff is friendly and attentive. Be sure to take the tour of the hotel, you will love it. This is definitely worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.
