We stayed at Mercure Chartres Centre Cathedrale our first night after flying from the US to France. We probably could have slept well anywhere that night, but this was an exceptional night's sleep in a wonderfully soft, cozy bed with soft lofty pillows and a down comforter. Perfection. Knowing we'd want to sleep well and that warm temperatures were likely in August, we chose a hotel with highly rated AC units, and were very pleased. In fact the AC was so powerful we even ended up turning it down a bit. The space was cozy, but because so many others have complained on reviews we were prepared for it to be smaller than it actually was. The shower and vanity area of the bathroom had a sliding wall what could be closed for privacy or left open to the rest of room for a more spacious feeling. The location could not have been better and you shouldn't be inside at Chartres anyway. The hotel was walking distance from anything you'd want to visit in town, including the light displays at night, cathedrals, and shops and restaurants. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, but opted to enjoy pastries and coffee from one of the many nearby cafes.
This is a very upscale hotel with good dinning. I liked the fact that I could have all the coffee with my breakfast without an extra charge. Breakfast is fixed price with wide assortment of pastries, eggs, cheese and meats. Beyond that the hotel is well located.
Location and service: very good. Four-star rating Very close to the Cathedral and in the city center . Paid parking is available at €15 for 24 hours. Parking garage is called “couer de ville“. Get a ticket from the hotel front desk to get the special rate. Room: very small. I don’t mind a small room, but this one had a tiny desk and a very uncomfortable chair. My laptop barely fit the desk and it was hard for me to work sitting on that chair. Awful!
Planned a four day vacation with the family in Chartres. The hotel is placed in the center of the city, in walking distance of the cathedral. Nice and clean rooms with a small fridge. Good breakfast with lots of things to choose from.
i could not open the window in my room because is was locked. bad air, bad sleep. I complained about it in the morning and than the lady blamed me tha tI did not say anything. so it was the fault of the geust. I do not like that attitude. late in the evening I ordered a glas of red wine. I got a small glass with bad wine and had to pay six euro's. That is rediculous, I felt chested. When I arrived and approached the desk the man and the lady had a lot of fun with each other and hardly saw me standing. After that I had given my name, I simply got the key of the room and went of. I was not asked for any ID or creditcard confirmation which is very strange. In the room there was not a good desk that you could work on and I see that as a shorcoming for a 4 star hotel. the breakfest was simple and should be more extended to a four star level. Mercure Charte is not a four star hotel and I feel bad serviced.
The room was small, that's ok, it was what was available. But small does not have to be inconvenient. When you have a tiny bathroom, don't put in a double sink so that there is absolutely no space for toiletries, not even a shelf under the basins. Do put a shelf in the shower for shampoo bottles etc. Instead of having a safe installed at an angle on the only shelf taking up all the space in the cupboard, mount it below. And If you have to have a mini bar put it on the floor so you have space for a proper shelf, or a couple of drawers. Do not have a useless pink cushion chair that will never be used taking up the tiny space in the room. Instead of putting a built in alarm clock into the wall by the bed - who doesn't have an alarm on their phone - put at least one plug by the bed for chargers. I could go on for pages on this idiotic design - but suffice to say to management - go look at budget hotels and see how they design small rooms. The only thing that saves this hotel from one star is good location and good staff.
We stayed here on Saturday en route from SW France to the Euro tunnel. The hotel is centrally located near the cathedral and shops etc.( No car park but there is a huge car park nearby. We reserved our car parking on line through Q Park, receiving a good rate, guaranteed parking space, and simply needed to scan a code from my smartphone on arrival.)The hotel staff were charming, the room was clean and spacious with free wifi everywhere, a very comfortable bed- and breakfast was lovely.
The hotel is situated in the heart of Chartres. The room was excellent, especially the shower, which I have to say left me lost for words. Different is often better. Staff good ,food at breakfast excellent including proper coffee. Did not eat dinner there as still recovering from the meal at a previous Mercure. Excellent but parking although there is a large underground public carpark nearby, is challenging to access, relatively expensive and you can end up with a 500m walk, in the rain. Excellent value for money. Staff excellent. Would definitely stay there again
We had a very comfortable night, just where we wanted to be - in the centre of Chartres. The breakfast was the best we have had for a long time! If we return to this area we shall certainly be booking in.
I moved here because the Monarque next door was booked for a last minute extension. Apparently owned by the same owner. This is a very modern hotel, but the staff was extremely friendly and seemed genuinely pleasant and happy. I was upgraded to a "privilege" room with a view of the cathederal. I don't particularly care for the glare of the modern lighting provided, but everything else was clean and squared away. Breakfast buffet was extensive and they cooked up some Gluten free rolls for me.
