Pousada Castelo de Estremoz - Historic Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

As with other pousada hotels, the building was rich with character and history. I recommend paying for the upgrade in rooms, as the basic room is truly basic - twin beds, tight WC and no view. The breakfast was good, parking ample, and the views from common areas were terrific. The pool area is lovely - just short on service for towels and the bar. This was likely due to our visit in August, which may be the slow time for guests. The town is quaint - I don't think it offers much in terms of other restaurants or shopping - except the old jail restaurant next to the hotel (very good!) and the Saturday market, which is an antiques/used goods/farmer's market all rolled into one. For a night or 2, this is a good stay. For longer stays, it might be too remote from other activities.
I stayed for one night in the middle of the August rush. The setup and ambiance is outstanding, very near, IMHO, to a Parador like Plasencia for example. Reception staff is very correct. The bar is understaffed, or at least you have to wait a long time to get asked what you want to drink. Breakfast was good and complete. Perhaps I miss, having been to a few Pousadas and Portuguese hotels the last couple of weeks, a good Greek style yoghurt. However, the local cheese, curado de oveija, was not good, or was the same cut set out over and over again. The room was also excellent. It was actually rather cold inside. It is the first time I recall in a number of years, to have slept without Aircon...in August! All in all it is an excellent option. I really have to be back at some point.
A warm welcome, large comfortable room and our own castle tower. A great experience. Breakfast was a well prepared buffet and we enjoyed the buffet diners on our four night stay. The courtyard table were cool and relaxing and the pool was just cool. If we had one negative, we have enjoyed Pestana Hotels on Madeira and feel that the communication skills of waiting and serving staff need some work.
Stayed here for two nights. The rooms are huge. Wonderful decor. Staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is so spacious with amazing furniture. Lovely pool area. Can't speak highly enough of our experience. Excellent value for money. Very good breakfast.
Of all the pousada;a (and paradors) I visited sofar, this was by farr the best. The building (castle) was very well maintained and had Paintings, cabinets and other accessories that really match the quality of most of the musea I visited. In addition to this the services level of the staff at the reception was unsurpassed and beyond a 5 star level.
Second visit to this hotel since December 2016 and once again the experience was very enjoyable. Room was large with king size bed and antique style furniture and paintings. We had an anti chamber included which was interesting. Wifi worked well and staff were very friendly. Love the breakfast which is mixture of cold and hot buffet with cereals and fruits. The breakfast room is very like
This Pousada is situated in a lovely building dating from the 13th century, with a remarkable marble tower from which there are wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Not only is the building itself remarkable, but so too are the many furniture pieces dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. There is a very large lounge with plenty of comfortable seating, and a good-sized garden and a pleasant courtyard both of which provide good outdoor seating for evening drinks. The breakfast was good, as was the wi-fi signal throughout the hotel. My only minor moans would be that one of the receptionists could have been more engaging, and I think it unreasonable to charge for the bottle of water left in the room. Overall however this hotel is wonderful and almost unbelievable value for money - we only stayed two nights, but would happily return for a much longer stay.
Estremoz is a great place to stay and the Pousada sits overlooking the town with great views. The building retains the feeling of an old palace but also provides warmth and comfort. Our room was not big, but very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine but not exciting! We ate dinner in town as Pousadas generally are quite expensive for dinner and quality is variable. Lots of free parking in front.
I booked an overnight in the poussada a year ago for 44 people and paid 50 % upfront and the rest soon after. Just a week before we left they moved us and I later heard also another group of a sister organization to another hotel saying it was overbooked and offer a welcome drink. I think this is unheard of. Having booked so long before and paying the full amount of 44 people upfront and then saying overbooked is scandalous.
This Pousada is located in the hill top fortified castle of the Estremoz fortified village, surrounded by vineyards, with an incredible 360° view on the region. Part of the venue is open to the public, in particular the main tower, standing some 25 meters above the ground, made out entirely of white marble. Quite an outstanding venue, richly decorated with old furnitures and various antiques. We went there for a single night stay, booked a double bed in a standard room some 5 months earlier. We arrived at 12h and been told that our room will be ready by 15h, we returned at 17h after visiting the town, and found out we were set in a room with twin beds. Nice for a romantic get away ! Ensued a strong argument with the receptionist who first told us they were no such rooms in the category we've booked, so we showed him the official website pictures and our booking confirmation proving the opposite, he finally set us in a double bed room, but facing the courtyard instead of the panoramic view. I would only question here who was wrong, the company or the receptionist? And why the fuss when customers pay 125 euros per night ? If the venue consider itself a luxury hotel it should be managed like one, and booking strictly honored without discussions. An holiday inn can do better at that... There's no parking issue, plenty space across the square in front of the castle. There s a nice but not to large swimming pool in the castle garden, with a pool bar that was closed at the time of our visit. Internet worked well and breakfast was OK but not outstanding. We waited maybe 20mns before they would bring clean glasses, that were missing. We ended up taking the glasses from the tables set at the restaurant next door. A bit of a messy experience, my partner found the bed to hard. A gorgeous hotel but a poor hospitality experience. Not worth 125 euros. Go for advanced booking on the main website at 106 euros and make sure they enforce your request by arriving before evening time to the hotel.
