The hotel is close to the streets where you can shop and eat fine food. However I did not like the surroundings of the hotel. Nevertheless I think that this hotel is one of the best options in Essen. The breakfast is very rich, I am sure everybody can find anything to eat :)
There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this hotel , when you consider it is set up with staff and facilities aimed at servicing business clientele and providing good conference environments, HOWEVER , not every guest that stays is there with a company expense account ! There are others like myself who are sadly not shown the same level of service. I fully understand that Essen is not a "tourist" city but maybe there could be some provision for those who are. A different pricing policy should be considered or adopted for guests staying longer than 1 - 3 nights. For example , we were in Essen for 15 days to support our family having specialist cancer treatment , having already paid over 1200 euros for 15 nights room only maybe a discreet voucher or offer of breakfast included or even 2 for 1 as the extra charge for a breakfast is 15 euros per person , on a business account no problem , but another 450 euros is alot of money. There is a further 18 euros per day to park a vehicle , actually to park a car as T5 and transit type vans are too tall to pass under their hard metal height barrier so you are left with no option but to park in the street. If this had been added to our costs the total spend for 15 nights Bed and Breakfast for 2 would have cost nearly 2000 euros and then an evening meal and maybe a drink or two on top. Our booking contract stated complimentary tea coffee and water , this was not replenished on a regular basis and on one occaision when i asked for 2 coffee pods there was an attempt to charge me. I cannot comment on the food quality as it was too restrictive a price leaving us no option but to eat out (good local food nearby though reviews to follow on these in relavent place on Tripadvisor) The Hotel is clean , the staff very well presented and run it as it is set up but overall due to the attention focussed upon the business fraternity , i found it souless , excellent for a short break not so good for longer stays. Another issue 7 euros for a bottle of water is excessive! Hotels air conditioning probably needs servicing too.
Welcome Hotel positions itself as a business hotel, but the WiFi is slow throughout the hotel, across all floors and even in the lobby. The hotel seems to be aware of this but was unapologetic and offered our group (5 business travellers) no solution. We stayed here during a warm period over the summer and the hotel is not equipped to be comfortable in warm weather. They have "aircon" in the rooms but the vent doesn't blow cold air even on the lowest setting. It was not just my room, all of my colleagues complained about this and it seems this issue has been complained about a lot by others on Trip Advisor. Again the hotel is aware of the issue but was completely unapologetic. I asked for a fan in my room to at least create a bit of air flow but they claimed they don't have any fans for guests (despite there being a fan right behind the reception desk...) As a result I mostly just laid in bed, feeling sweaty and unable to sleep. You can open the window but the hotel faces a main, busy road so you get noise and pollution coming into your room. In all I would never stay at this hotel again - there are better options in Essen. For a bit more money you can stay at a much nicer hotel.
This the first ever occasion i was offered a "Downgrade" ( Or only possible choice). Of course the price was reduced and the car park was free. The supplied room was however to our full satisfaction and offered good space and comfort. The hotel is well located close to the city center. We visited "Messe" and earlier we stayed close to that but decided to avoid the buzz around this area. This worked out to be a good choice. The hotel offered good comfort and conveniences. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast is very good but on our visit the breakfast staff was a bit unattentive and did not seem to enjoy their job even if it wasnt a very busy Saturday. The free WiFi isnt worth using. However we are satisfied with our stay and will happily come back.
Shops and restaurant start at 10 mins walking distance, real centre a bit further (so those coming for shopping primarily, not for excursions, maybe not the best base). Free hotel parking. Nice and tidy rooms, decent bathroom, comfy bed, acceptable wifi. Extensive breakfast with enough hot food options.
Can’t get better quality for the price, we will stay there again next time we are in Essen. The hotel is in walking distance of almost everything, bars, restaurants, shopping center, churches...Bed was confortable, shower could be better but that’s about the only negative side. Even though we were facing a nightclub, we heard nothing throughout the night.
Location is ideal for city centre. Room comfortable, clean and equiped with all necessities. The hotal has its own parking garage. Breakfast is fine, allthough you may have to wait for a table in case the hotel is fully booked. Allthough the restautant advertizes an a la carte menu, during our stay only buffet was available. We were promised a dinner table after about 1 hour. However for unknown reasons other guests were given priority. After complaints to the restaurant manager, we finally got a table that had been available all the time already. Meanwhile it was (only) just past 20.00 hrs as we discovered that most buffet dishes and bowls were empty or almost empty. A very disappointing service. Clearly the kitchen capacity was incapable of matching the restaurant needs. Something management need to look into! It seems that touroperators and their clients have priority in this restaurant.
I recently booked this hotel in error...chose the wrong dates...on a non-cancellable system. Having explained my error, they could not change the dates as they were full, but their attitude was great and offered me a full refund, even though they didn't have to! Great attitude and flexibility!!
Stay here for Essen Spiel 2018. Hotel is located right next to underground tram station, with several lines passing through, so no trouble getting a tram from main station (Essen Hbf every 5-10min) although it is possible to walk from there also. Check-in was quick and easy. Found that the room i was given did not have a mini fridge (there was an empty space where it should be). After speaking with reception, the staff were able to accommodate me in another room (without a bathtub though), so that was good (i prefered the fridge to a bath). WiFi is free and fast, but had trouble with the Netflix streaming service (doesn't load) - reception says it is not a problem on their side, but if i share internet from my phone, Netflix works perfect. All other sites (youtube, facebook etc) work fine on the hotel WiFi, so there is something going on between Netflix and the WiFi About the room, it is a good size and clean, the bed is comfortable and there is room to sit and use a laptop. The windows do a good job of blocking the noise of the traffic (hotel next to a main road). I didn't eat in the restaurant, so cant comment on that, but it at least looked very nice.
Modern, clean, lovely service, and a private, secure parking lot. Breakfast is good but not spectacular. The hotel is fairly well placed. If the beds weren’t so cheap and bouncy the four stars would be more than earned.
