Mercure Hotel Am Centro Oberhausen4.5 out of 5.0

If you plan staying at the Mercure Hotel Oberhausen, you need to be *very* careful when selecting your room. You need to be aware that hotel stands next to a busy rail track, where most of the heavy traffic happens at night. Despite the sound isolating windows, you will have a loud night if you happen to get a room on track side. Staff is - overall - very helpful and friendly. But there are situations where some go the total opposite side and therefore my 'average' rating. It's kind of roller coaster - can't explain why. Mattresses are hard - so be prepared to sleep almost like on a bench. Some rooms have been updated a few years ago - which makes them look quite ok, but some haven't. Restaurant offering is average and prices are fairly high for what you get and there is *nothing* around. Just maybe if you are ready to walk 15-20 min and go Centro - but I wouldn't, simply because the neighborhood doesn't look appealing at night. But I need to make a positive note regarding the Mercure Oberhausen Centro hotel. Breakfast was going well beyond the usual Mercure standard, with a broad selection : fried eggs/omlette on request, great breads (full grain bread from a local bakery is in my top list all times) and pretty much everything you can wish for a good start of the day. I hope this stays unchanged. For those coming by car, the advantage is there are plenty of free parking places at the hotel and around.
We didn't have a warm en welcoming feeling with the staff. The check-in was very short en fast. No click at all. Also with check-out there was no staff at all. Felt a bit weird, so we dropped our key in the fast check-out and left. We didn't use breakfast at the hotel, because there are various good breakfast or lunch opportunities in the centro at the promenade for a more reasonable price. The first impression in the room was spacious, clean and a nice bathroom plus the smell of a dusty old carpet floor. We immediately opened the window, luckily this was possible, otherwise we had to ask for another room, cause we are both allergic to dust. The train 20 meters from the room, passed by frequently and loudly! Closing the window was no option, cause the room was stuffy. And there was no climatesystem. Also no pen in the room, bed was ok for me, for my partner to hard. 1 pillow and no good filling, also I think it was feathered and the sleeve did not cover the pillow fully. No minibar, because of the environment was the explination, but our towels were chanched. However we had hanged them on the hangers. Last but bot least, there was a smell in the bathroom. What we appreciated very much is that we got litlle candy for christmass on our pillows, that was cute. We arrived at the hotel arround 10 pm and they were cleaning the bar, so we just went to bed. Also only german television... it was ok, but for a 4 star hotel, it could be much better. Location is not so pretty and near the train rails, but nearby the centro and that was very handy. What I defenitly liked was the space in the room and the shower.
This hotel is well located and rooms are ok. The problem with this hotel is more concerning the service. The day I was there, there was no warm water. When I mentioned that at the reception the only answer was: we are sorry. They did absolutely nothing to compensate: free breakfast, a voucher for something, price reduction ... not a single token gesture. When I pay a full price, I expect full service. Therefore I can't recommend this hotel.
The Mercure Oberhausen Centro is around 5min drive from the Centro Mall. It’s a typical Mercure Hotel. Service was ok, not too friendly. Room spacious and clean and with direct exit on ground floor. Breakfast is standard.
Check in easy and fast because of online preparation, clean and comfortable room, nice extras in the room. Too bad the double bed had two separate matrasses and the pillows were too soft. Easy to reach with good parking spaces.
The hotel was up to the usual Mercure standard although we were surprised to find no restaurant service on a Sunday evening. This may have been mentioned in the small print when I made the reservation. Nevertheless it did not spoil our stay. We would certainly stay there again.
In Bochum recently for a business trip and stayed here as we arrived by train and it is very convenient to the station. Despite rain when we dragged our bags to the station the next morning most of the walk was under cover through the subway. Staff very pleasant, room comfortable and quiet although there was no ironing facilities. Buffet breakfast was excellent and started at 6.3-am so we had sufficient time before catching our train.
2nd stay here this year on business. Overall hotel is nice and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast selection is very good. Something for everyone. Only one small criticism is the air conditioning system in the room. Fan is quite poor and when it's hot, it's not enough to cool the room down. Other than that, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Also very close to Centro for some awesome shopping!!!
This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this hotel and enjoyed it again. Rooms are a decent size and very clean. Dinner at the restaurant was very nice. Breakfast was buffet style and was pleasant enough. Staff are all very friendly.
Easy and fast check-in. the room was clean, comfortable. Diner was very good. Breakfast very nice Check out very quick and efficient. The central location in Oberhausen was perfect. I have been there before and I will come back
