Atlas Essaouira & SPA5.0 out of 5.0

After spending a few nights in a charming Riad in Essaouira, we decided to spoil ourselves with a 5 star hotel for a couple nights. We booked online directly through the hotel's website, but received no confirmation. So we decided to confirm our reservation in person which was bothersome, but we were content when we learned the booking stood. Upon check in the next day, we learned that the room still had garbage on the floors, the windows were filthy and there were fingerprints all over the walls. To make matters worse, the bed broke when we sat on the edge and neither of us are large people. We went back to reception and we were moved to another room, however the room number did not correspond with the key and the room 144 did not exist. Fortunately we were able to get advise from room service who told us room 144 meant room 155 for some reason. Upon enetering our new room we quickly discovered it was just as dirty as the last room and the bed was also broken. Given the time of day we decided to spend the night, but cancel the 2nd night. We told the night reception that we would like to cancel and he told us we needed to do that via the booking portal we booked with. The booking however was made directly with the hotel, but the night reception did not know what to do. So he asked if we could return in the morning at 9am to cancel. We agreed and remained in the lobby as it was the only area in the whole hotel with WiFi. The next morning at 8am room service tried to open our door without knocking, but I read about this on a review so I deadbolted it to avoid their entrance. We went to reception to cancel the 2nd night, but were once again told to cancel via the portal. The Atlas hotel uses a 3rd party to handle their website and bookings, but they either did not know the name of the company or were unable to tell us for some reason. Which made it impossible for us to directly cancel. The reception tried to contact the company to cancel, but nobody took the call. We cancelled regardless and got a receipt to ensure we had proof. The whole process was a mess. Overall: Staff: unfriendly and unknowledgeable Rooms: dirty, broken beds Pool: to cold to enjoy Breakfast: unmemorable Wifi: reserved for lobby Booking: complicated Avoid the Atlas hotel. I have no idea who they paid to garner 5 stars, but it is so far from a 5 star hotel.
Lovely big modern room looking over the gardens and nice bathroom . Good WIFI connection everywhere. Spacious entrance hall with lots of sitting areas.Several restaurants and a bar with music. Great gardens with lawn and trees and places to sit and relax or even have your beakfast outside. There is a large pool The main restaurant faces the beach, lovely to see the sun go down. The food was first class with wide varieties of Moroccan starters and main courses as well as patisseries. The breakfast buffet was enticing too with wide a selection of dishes. Helpful staff. A most enjoyable couple of days.
The front desk woman was the only good thing about the spa, she was kind and welcoming. I went for a hammam and a 50 minute massage. During the hammam the woman rushed through it and didn’t exfoliate my arms or neck area at all while the woman next to me was rubbed from head to toe by a different woman. After, I still had dead skin on me (which misses the entire point of a hammam). I scheduled to get the deepest pressure massage because I’ve been traveling and am very tight so I was hoping this service would be better. Needless to say, I stopped the lady midway through my massage it was so terrible. Then I still got charged for it after telling them how disappointed I was! I never write bad reviews (usually I just won’t go back to the place) but I had to write this one so people know. Go elsewhere. It’s expensive and disappointing.
We had a sea facing room and sat watching the windsurfers and camels on the beach. The breakfast is adequate and the hotel is wheelchair accessible. Within an easy stroll to the centre. 3rd time of staying and would stay again
We stayed here for our anniversary and it was incredible. The service is second to none, the service is so attentive and they were genuinely interested in your day. The room we had was stunning, the bed was so large and the view was just beautiful overlooking the beach. We were interested in exploring more of the area, In particular going to the famous Had Draa market. The reception staff organised a guide for us at a great price. This hotel has a pool, A spa, 3 restaurants (one on the beach), a bar, a private beach with a security guard, and ample space in the reception area. I really recommend this place to stay and enjoy your break.
This a tired hotel And cannot be classed as a 5 star by any stretch of the imagination. The amenities are poor, the service questionable with reception staff arguing in front of guests. The room didn’t contain any information on the hotel, let alone the surrounding areas. WiFi didn’t work in our bedroom and to get hot water we had to run the tap for 10 minutes. All in all a bad experience and I would advise it be given a wide birth. The hotel seems to be being used as a transit hotel, and anyone want to stay more than one night should look elsewhere
We stayed for 4 days and can't it was a fully positive experience, the rooms are spacious, the Wi-Fi fast and the pool amenities nice but it ends there. The hotel is dated and tired, and the staff lack training all round. The shower was no more than a trickle and although we asked for it to be fixed it was not. The room was not cleaned, even though we left the room at 11am and the 'please make up room' on the door, the towels were taken but not replaced and when we called for room cleaning at 5pm two ladies arrived, swept whilst texting and replaced one towel for a two person room. The service in the bar was the worst I've seen, with 5 people working and 4 people in the bar we were pretty much ignored. Reception were rude and continued to chat amongst themselves when we went to have our constantly deactivating door card reactivated. To top everything off, on the final day of our trip, someone walked into our room, without knocking, whilst we slept at 0830am, pretty much sums up our stay.
Getting a good cocktail in Essaouira isn't as easy as it should be - not that many places considering, and even fewer who know what they're doing. This place definitely does though, and reasonably priced too (90dh for a LIIT). Recommended. (Didn't stay in the hotel but foyer facilities looked good, can't comment on rooms or anything else).
Nice, modern hotel in a very good location. We only stayed one night so cannot comment on the amenities such as the pool. A bit cool in March to swim if not heated. The buffet restaurant was okay and the bar very nice for a drink beforehand. We found the beds very hard and the worse, lumpy pillows ever!
We have to disagree with the negative comments. We stayed here for 1 night but could happily of extended it. It may be a little ‘tired’ in parts but we had a lovely room and found the staff very pleasant. Breakfast was good and was taken on a beautiful terrace in the sun. We found everything clean . Don’t be put off.
