We used this hotel for a business meeting of 10 people for 3 days. It was great because you don't have this usual "conference hotel atmosphere" as in the big brands. Overall the place seems more a location for beautiful weddings, but during the week it was perfect and the food and service was excellent.
Stayed for 5 nights in this beautiful old castle. Ideally situated 40 minutes south of Bellagio and 20 minutes to the east of Como. We hired a car and found that travelling all around the southern parts of Lake Como were very easy from our location both to the east and west. We stayed in the castle part of the hotel. Breakfast in the basement was in a very rustic setting. A good selection of meats, cheeses, cereals with coffee and fresh juices. The pool was lovely, we're not sure if it was just the time of year or whether it was normally this quiet but it was perfect. The hotel seems to cater for weddings and conferences which don't interfere with a midweek stay. Room was cleaned daily and the reception staff were extremely helpful.
The pool and the garden is the most positive thing about the hotel (well maintained and big). The breakfast is good. However, the rooms are very simple and dated (except for the bathroom, which was nice). A part of the curtain was hanging loose. Also, the cleaning could be better. Found a lot of dust under the radiator and spider webs above the bed. We also found a spider in our bed, but we can understand since it's an old castle. However, we also found a cockroach in our bathroom which was very unpleasant. We made a video of it and showed it to the receptionist, who said it was normal because of the garden. All in all, we will not come back here. It's definitely not worth the price and doesn't look up to our expectations of a 4* hotel. Staff at the reception could be more friendly (staff at breakfast is nicer).
As a last minute booking on our road trip through Italy, Castello di Casiglio came as a huge surprise, nestled up in the hills near Lake Como, with a short drive from the lake to the town of Erba. The hotel is acessed through a long drive flanked with italian cypress trees giving way to a medieval looking castle. The interiors/restaurant were tastefully decorated with castle paraphernalia, armours etc, typical of an old castle. The restaurant in the cavern served delicious local seasonal produce cooked in a simple rustic way and included a great selection of wine. The breakfast served the next day was sumptuous with freshly baked breads, salamis, cheese etc., Our rooms were in the annexe (not castle proper) and were a bit of the way from the restaurant/front of the hotel. The rooms were modern with minimalist furniture and the bath room was spacious and well equipped. The only gripe is the rooms were up in the attic with sloping roof and roof lights opened to the sky with little or no view to the landscape. Recommend asking for a room in the main building. All in all, a great find and good short stay near Como.
This hotel is located on the side of the Como lake in a quite site. The hotel has a nice pool and the restaurant has a very delicious food! Even if you stay in other location, you should visit this restaurant! Waiters are nice and pay attention to you even though you don't see them! Really good atmosphere for a romantic dinner for two or for a bigger company with high expectations! Side note: as a wedding location the castle has a lot of choices for the venue! This place is great!
Unfortunately, we only stayed at this hotel for one night. It's located relatively close to Como, which was our destination, and we regretted not to spend one more day in this area. The hotel is surrounded by gardens and counts with a beautiful pool! The room was big, had high ceilings, a very simple decoration. Bathroom was clean with soft towels. We loved the restaurants style and the food was delicious. Honestly, it was a great stay.
Any destination wedding is always a treat! This one was very special in such a romantic & beautiful Castle setting. The castle offers both the hotel accommodations for guests, restaurant & the salons, gardens & all the splendor to make any celebration memorable! We loved the rustic-chic rooms, the several terraces, gardens & the food! Service was excellent which is always a challenge for large groups, so kudos to them. Price value relationship is great! We can't wait to go back to continue exploring the Lake Como area.
Spent 3 nights at this place and though the building is nice, it definitely lacks 4 star service. Except for one waiter in the restaurant, we found the staff uninterested and not very helpful. A lot of details are not taken care of (a few empty glasses from last weekend's wedding in the garden, unattended pool, no laundry service, many unmatching pairs of chairs, cloth hangers and so on). Our junior suite was fine and spacious. However doors not closing well. Breakfast was good and varied. Coffee from machine in breakfast room was terrible. Had dinner twice and some courses were really good (we liked the brass) , while others were not as good as expected. On oir last day, dinner was served in one of the conference rooms (including sliding walls) because a wedding party took place in the main dining area.
We stayed at the hotel for our holiday, staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and comfortable with everything required. We ate in the restaurant once, although nice we thought it was expensive for the amount of food eaten. Grounds of hotel were beautiful and poolside was nice. The poolside bar was only attended at weekends so you would have to go to the restaurant to order drinks which were expensive. Would stay again.
This old place has been added on to and is rather difficult to navigate through the levels and corridors. The hotel staff is not particularly helpful or attentive. After being led to my room in a far back corner, Frankly I wasn't sure I could find my way back - two separate elevators and several long winding corridors. My room was fine with lots of french doors (even in the bathroom) and windows. The room was adequate for its age. The pool wasn't open, but it was cold and raining the whole time, so that didn't matter. It is extremely isolated so if you don't have a car you are definitely at their need for all food and drink. Breakfast was basic at best
