We stayed here the last 2 weeks of March and mostly enjoyed our stay. Valentines is conveniently located, and provides for pretty much everything you need to have a comfortable visit to Harbour Island. The ferry dropped us off on the dock at Valentines, we walked a few steps up the office for check in which was not only friendly and efficient but we were encouraged to come there for dinner reservations or to solve any problems. And we found that the staff took ownership of any issues rather than pass it back, very well trained people.I didn't see that TripAdvisor rated the restaurant at Valentines, which we found to compare favorably with the other restaurants with 4star ratings. The food is good, nice menu, good service, pleasant interior. And the beach setup they provide works well, and it's one of the best beaches we've seen in all our years of visiting the various Caribbean islands. The one issue we had on Harbour Island was not Valentines' fault, but the golf rental situatiion was ugly, and we will never go back to Harbour Island. We rented a cart a month in advance from Dunmore Rental, it was confirmed, but when we got there, Dunmore was closed and out of carts. The office staff found one rental, Royal Palm, that had a cart and delivered it the next day. It was a mess-loud engine, spitting fumes and very slow which greatly annoyed other drivers. After 3 days of Royal Palm promising to deliver a replacement, one finally arrived. It was faster, but it would stall periodically, sometimes in the middle of an intersection.Chaos. And we met a lot of people on the island complaining about the carts.
Valentines is a great place to stay, or simply hang out. They have happy hour daily from 4.00 to 6.00 pm, with drink and food specials. Several charter boats there, so lots of activity, and the sunset was perfect!
This hotel could do a little more to be 5 star, but it doesn't seem to want to. The rooms are large and very accommodating for familys and the location is wonderful, but the service is just a tad too Bahamian. Its not clear who is in charge or what the goal of the place is, beyond fried fish, a cool bar and a harbor. Every off-menu ask was met with a mediocre attempt to help, or just forgotten. Staff is not motivated . High points are the coffee shop -an oasis of quality in a sea of expensive mediocrity
This is a great place place to stay, especially with a boat. We had a 120 foot boat, which was accommodated easily, and they had room for many more, even larger boats. They have a restaurant on site at the marina, where you can sit outside and eat, the rooms here are nice and kept up, and they have golf carts available for rent to get around the island. If you're traveling around by boat, this is a great place for a pit stop.
Loved the property, the staff, food and beverage was surprisingly good. Great location on the island. Lots of activities. Decent pool. Dive center right there. Probably the best surprise was the live music at their marina bar. Miss Ithalia Johnson was there early, 5:30 to 7 or 8?, Very talented and a wonderful person, she adds a great deal to the flavor of the marina bar as well as other places she performs, such as Ramora Bay's Sunset Restaurant and Bar. You need to see her when you're on the island. Getting back to the property itself, unless your are going to "get away from it all", the complete lack of any "consistent" wifi may make you reconsider staying here. Had a 1 bdrm apartment, and if you were sitting on the couch in the living room, you might get wifi good enough for a short period of time. Even walking upstairs or on the balcony rendered your device useless or on extremely expensive cell roaming. It took almost 26 hours and 3 attempts to simply download an audible book as an example. Like I said, if you are going to "unplug", it's a great property, but if you have to stay connected for professional or personal reasons, you will be very frustrated.
We've been coming to Valentine's for many years. I was surprised how much continues to improve. Vanessa Mayne, the Resort Manager, is wonderful, responsive and interested in guest feedback. They have added more beach chairs and umbrellas at their beach area. I suggest they send someone down the beach to make sure everything is in order 11am to 3pm during peak season as non guests do use the beach area. They have added a full time person to manage the pool area and towels which is great. The staff is unbelievable responsive. When we'd call for anything from housekeeping to maintenance, they would arrive promptly and address the issue. Kurt is always helpful with bags and anything else you ask of him. Thanks for a great vacation and we'll see you again next year!
Staff is amazing, Valentines is like a small community and there is NOTHING else like it on Harbour Island. The gym and coffee shop were awesome. Staff truly wanted you to have an amazing trip. The pool area is spacious and the sunset views are perfect on this side of the island.
Stayed at Valentines for 10 days. Beautiful hotel and Island. Rooms immaculate. A special mention to two guys in the bar named Raphael and Dylan who were always very welcoming and friendly. The live music in the bar was great (a shame they don't perform on more nights) as the atmosphere in the bar was so much better when they performed. Also a special mention to a lovely lady (didn't get her name) she was new to Valentines only been there 2/3 months who always welcomed us in to the Restaurant in the evening showing us to our seats. A great resort.
The first year we went to Harbour Island, we stayed at Valentines. The rooms are clean, well maintained, and the staff is friendly. The pool is gorgeous, and the restaurant(s), while expensive, are very good as well. Beautiful views out over the harbor, and the big yachts come into the dock which is always cool. Dive tours as well. Could not recommend more. Just make sure to rent your cart a year or so in advance so you don't miss a good working one.
Excellent accommodations and a superb staff. The guest services manager is Illianna and she did everything to make our stay perfect. Everything you may want can be arranged through the front desk be it golf cart rental, bike rental, etc. Walking distance to the best restaurants on Harbour Island. The hotel bar is right on the docks with amazing views and TV's to watch sports. The bar/restaurant also has a large deck where we ate breakfast. The pool was wonderful but does not have a spa/hot tub. Our room was spacious and very well maintained. Our room had a private deck where we enjoyed coffee every morning (I think all rooms do.) Not cheap but about what you should expect to pay for something of this caliber on Harbour Island. Definitely worth it.
