Quality Inn2.5 out of 5.0

We were eager to stay once again at this Quality Inn, based on past positive experiences and fond memories. We checked in and asked for a room on the 2nd floor so we wouldn't have anyone overhead. Considering the few cars in the parking lot, that was probably an unnecessary precaution. It was 6 pm as we made our way to the dining room, looking forward to a bowl of their excellent seafood chowder on a chilly March evening. Not too be!! Though the dining area was still there, the hotel kitchen had been replaced by pret-a-manger counter that also handled drive-by orders. No seafood chowder, no hot meals, though the pleasant server said she could heat up any sandwich we chose. Disappointed, we opted to eat out. That night after an acceptable supper at PizzaBoy in Grand Falls, we turned in. I was awakened by voices at 3:30 am coming from the room beneath ours. A troubled sleep followed until we woke at 7am. We went for our complimentary breakfast after asking why in an mostly empty hotel, they would put us in a room over another occupied room. The hotel's complimentary breakfast turned out to be a $5.00 coupon off the cost of whatever we chose. The restaurant part of the hotel is managed by a separate entity. My wife discovered she had selected a petrified muffin which needed a dunking in her hot tea before she could bite through it. Needless to say, we will only return to the memories of what once was a favourite stop.
Came here on a whim as I was travelling on the road and decided it was time to stop. Inquired at the front desk and was promptly and efficiently assigned a room. This hotel has a lot of renovations recently done to it and from what I can see the attention to detail and the scope of the renovations is comprehensive. New paint, new carpet, new security lighting and other new fittings and features were in evidence to this property and add to the cosiness of the hotel. I am not able to determine the age of the property but given that the upgrades were done to an older property there are some things like the fittings in the bathroom that may appear "dated" to others but the overall cleanliness and attention to detail given the work done shows pride in ownership. My room was immaculately clean and the bed comfortable. Recently upgraded TV with good cable selection and very good internet access through wifi was excellent. There as a bit of confusion as to what access door to the room I was to used. On the backside of the hotel where my 2nd floor room faced that access door to the hallway and stairs would not work. When I went to the other side of the hotel the key worked fine. Not sure if it was an issue with me or not but a minor inconvenience. Overall a very good place to stay. I especially liked the $5 credit for breakfast to the attached Cafe. The breakfast sandwich was piping hot and freshly made and the coffee was goo.
I arrived the hotel late night, and I stayed one night there. The room and bathroom were very clean. The receptionist was very informative and caring. The indoor area was cozy and welcoming. I was able to stay there two more hours without extra charge. The outer area of hotel was clean and well maintained.
Having stayed at other Quality Inns, and having seen the pictures of this location, decided book for a night on our trip home. The front desk staff were very friendly, and got us checked in quickly. The room was adequate, however the bathroom could do with some upgrades. This bathroom was clean, however it was dated, and areas with molding needed some cleaning and repair. The restaurant was closed, and I believe this was for upgrades. They did provide a good breakfast and the checkout was speedy.
Name is deceiving - this outdated motel is not near a lake nor the nearby river. There is an artificial pond only:) Fortunately the renovations have begun; rooms and amenities are very dated. Meals were fine and staff very friendly.
A very nice hotel. Lots of parking and cabins were also available. A fantastic free breakfast was offered. Staff were helpful and the rooms were comfortable. This spot works well for all travellers. Pool was down when we were here. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed at nearby motel and the desk clerk recommended we walk next door for dinner. We waited 10 minutes to even be acknowledged in the lobby, and another 15 before a waitress even greeted us at our table - in fact, she never did. The place was busy and loud and smelled stale. We walked out and drove into town to hit a pub.
It's a place to stop for a night...lake is more like a pond, rooms are very old and out of date, carpets smell very stale, bring indoor shoes to walk in room. Old fashion coffee machine in room, usable. Breakfast was adequate. Self service and self clean up. Arrived late, left early, more than enough time in this room.
Pros: We stayed in one of the cabins the hotel has around the pond on the property. The view from the cabin of the pond was quite nice, and parking was right next to the cabin (although a little tight). The beds were comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The shower pressure and temperature was very good. The hotel has continental breakfast, which has a good variety, including a waffle maker. Cons: Pricey.
On the back of the envelope for the electronic key, Quality Inn Pres du Lac asks us to check out all their “Value Qs” like Bed, Breakfast, Service, etc including High speed internet. What I can say about the room we got at this motel is that, although smelly not in a good way, it was a good size. But the bathroom light worked when it felt like it, the paper wrapped glasses left in the room were dirty. Were they recycled from the previous guest without being properly washed? Don’t know but disgusting ! The AC was extremely noisy and not very efficient. I was working at an Art Symposium and we came back one afternoon after a full day working in the sun, looking forward to a nice shower to find that nobody had made up the room, dirty towels in the bath, no emptying of trash cans or making of the bed and out of tissue papers. I went to the front desk to ask for help only to find out that there was no manager working that afternoon and that all staff had gone home for the day. The lady at the front desk brought clean towels and took away the dirty ones after we asked for it but we had to go back later to the front desk to ask for tissue papers and toilet paper again since she forgot to bring them. Unacceptable ! To add insult to injury, we had to pay for our stay in advance because they claimed their machine was not working to register people properly the afternoon we arrived. Their “high speed internet” is unstable at best, keeps on kicking off and is very slow. They did give us a bottle of bubbly later on in the evening but it was too late to make a good impression. I would definitely recommend to stay away from the Quality Inn Pres du Lac if possible.
