We stayed in a cabin by the pond with young children. Very nice to sit on the porch and have a few drinks while the kids fed the ducks in the pond. This isn't the Hilton, so don't come here expecting fine dining and white linens. Everything was clean and comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. The breakfast was nice and the service from everyone was excellent.
While there are updates to the lobby and resturant the room (cabin) we were given for the night was awful. We must have been the first people to stay in it for months. The carpets, mattress, and broadlooms need replacing heck never mind it needs to be completely renovated. Oh and the continental breakfast was less than desirable. We will not stay there again.
Hotel: recently updated, old, cut up layout, roadside hotel unfortunately re-badged to Quality Inn. Advertised free wi-fi, free breakfast, standard Quality Inn stuff. On check in, we were booked upstairs (had booked ground floor). Took 20 minutes to fix it. Checked in to the smallest room I have ever stayed in. Room is average clean. One desk in the room (very limited place to put your things). One bed. Basic bed, obviously newer mattress, no pillowtop, you can feel the coils. Sheets were clean. No WiFi. Owners were in the building and wandered around after I made several complaints, waving their phones to see if they could find a signal. Even came in the room, but didn't do anything to fix it. They verified we had no signal, then had me call their tech line because they couldn't explain the problem to the tech. SO I called the tech, he said he would try to fix it remotely - no luck, had to use my cell data. WiFi still out when we left the next day. We paid a premium price for this hotel, the highest I have paid at ANY Quality Inn before - a shocking price. I rate this hotel in the seventy dollar roadside hotel class - we paid well over double my rating for this hotel. Breakfast - it's advertised as Quality Inn complimentary - be prepared for a shock: In the morning we went to the breakfast. It is NOT free - go to the front counter and get a coupon for $5 off. One Coupon you can use at the cafe located in the hotel, but operating as a separate business. For that $5 you get a free coffee and one of the cheapest sandwiches they have in the Cafe - you can't buy but two of their choices for the $5 coupon. We took the egg mcmuffin. Breakfast is prepared behind the counter by three very slow staff. Despite the pre-made food being stacked in bins (obviously purchased somewhere else), it took 9 minutes to heat the two sandwiches and the coffee. Tasty, but very tiny sandwich. Nothing is free here. There is No fountain for drinks. You can buy a $3 bottle of water or $3 juice. I am used to Quality Inn providing a full buffet breakfast - you know, waffles, eggs, muffins, cereals and drinks. Not so here. The hotel was perhaps 20% capacity. Not sure what they would do if they were full. There is a train track runs by. The train blows its whistle when it passes. Location is convenient, just off the TCH, but I cannot recommend this hotel for any reason - although a fresh facelift was given, it is still a very old building, and is just a roadside Inn that somehow the owners were able to badge as Quality Inn. That badge was the only reason I booked here. Here's some kickers: Flies in the room. The hotel amenities advertise free breakfast - I dispute that completely, it is misleading. The WiFi claim was also misleading - clearly it is not reliable and they can't service you if there's an issue. Carry a turbo stick if you are like me and require internet for work. Don't get lost - this place has a very confusing layout, no signage for rooms and the front staff couldn't tell us how to find it - took three tries to find the room, and one other couple trying to find a room completely lost when we were trying to check in - they were more than 20 minutes leaving the lobby then coming back to complain they couldn't find it - front clerk had no idea how to direct them to the right "arm" of the hotel - more like spider legs. I don't know if they ever found their room. The pool looked nice, we didn't try it though. I took pics but can't post from my mobile for some reason, will probably be able to edit this review with pics when we get home. DEPOSIT: despite paying up front (pre-paid hotel), when we arrived, they took my card and then charged an additional 200 deposit. To be fair, the expedia ad did say the hotel charged a 100 percent deposit - I missed that in the fine print - but the deposit grossly exceeded that 100 percent mark. Supposedly, it is in case you have a wild party. We got it back the following day... but this is new, never had it happen at a Quality Inn and will not happen again (we switched chains for the rest of the trip). There is No microwave. No fridge. Nothing really to redeem this property. I'm afraid the owners will have a hard time even making the property taxes on an annual basis if they can't pick up their socks. Oh - I did ask for a cut on the rate the next day, since their was no internet. They owners refused, but said they would speak to Choice hotels and see if they would give me a reward point for my inconvenience. I have stayed in hotels that were worse, but they were cheap and I knew it going in. This one is a cheap hotel masquerading under the Quality Inn banner. Both thumbs down I'm afraid.
This is an ok hotel, we had no problems staying here. Both French and English are spoken here. Plenty of room to park a large vehicle, rooms are a bit dated, but clean and everything in the room worked ok. Hotel restaurant was painfully slow, and breakfast is not complimentary, you only get a $5 off coupon. Staff was friendly.
We were eager to stay once again at this Quality Inn, based on past positive experiences and fond memories. We checked in and asked for a room on the 2nd floor so we wouldn't have anyone overhead. Considering the few cars in the parking lot, that was probably an unnecessary precaution. It was 6 pm as we made our way to the dining room, looking forward to a bowl of their excellent seafood chowder on a chilly March evening. Not too be!! Though the dining area was still there, the hotel kitchen had been replaced by pret-a-manger counter that also handled drive-by orders. No seafood chowder, no hot meals, though the pleasant server said she could heat up any sandwich we chose. Disappointed, we opted to eat out. That night after an acceptable supper at PizzaBoy in Grand Falls, we turned in. I was awakened by voices at 3:30 am coming from the room beneath ours. A troubled sleep followed until we woke at 7am. We went for our complimentary breakfast after asking why in an mostly empty hotel, they would put us in a room over another occupied room. The hotel's complimentary breakfast turned out to be a $5.00 coupon off the cost of whatever we chose. The restaurant part of the hotel is managed by a separate entity. My wife discovered she had selected a petrified muffin which needed a dunking in her hot tea before she could bite through it. Needless to say, we will only return to the memories of what once was a favourite stop.
Came here on a whim as I was travelling on the road and decided it was time to stop. Inquired at the front desk and was promptly and efficiently assigned a room. This hotel has a lot of renovations recently done to it and from what I can see the attention to detail and the scope of the renovations is comprehensive. New paint, new carpet, new security lighting and other new fittings and features were in evidence to this property and add to the cosiness of the hotel. I am not able to determine the age of the property but given that the upgrades were done to an older property there are some things like the fittings in the bathroom that may appear "dated" to others but the overall cleanliness and attention to detail given the work done shows pride in ownership. My room was immaculately clean and the bed comfortable. Recently upgraded TV with good cable selection and very good internet access through wifi was excellent. There as a bit of confusion as to what access door to the room I was to used. On the backside of the hotel where my 2nd floor room faced that access door to the hallway and stairs would not work. When I went to the other side of the hotel the key worked fine. Not sure if it was an issue with me or not but a minor inconvenience. Overall a very good place to stay. I especially liked the $5 credit for breakfast to the attached Cafe. The breakfast sandwich was piping hot and freshly made and the coffee was goo.
I arrived the hotel late night, and I stayed one night there. The room and bathroom were very clean. The receptionist was very informative and caring. The indoor area was cozy and welcoming. I was able to stay there two more hours without extra charge. The outer area of hotel was clean and well maintained.
Having stayed at other Quality Inns, and having seen the pictures of this location, decided book for a night on our trip home. The front desk staff were very friendly, and got us checked in quickly. The room was adequate, however the bathroom could do with some upgrades. This bathroom was clean, however it was dated, and areas with molding needed some cleaning and repair. The restaurant was closed, and I believe this was for upgrades. They did provide a good breakfast and the checkout was speedy.
Name is deceiving - this outdated motel is not near a lake nor the nearby river. There is an artificial pond only:) Fortunately the renovations have begun; rooms and amenities are very dated. Meals were fine and staff very friendly.
A very nice hotel. Lots of parking and cabins were also available. A fantastic free breakfast was offered. Staff were helpful and the rooms were comfortable. This spot works well for all travellers. Pool was down when we were here. Would definitely stay here again.
