Newly renovated hotel...Rooms are good....Hallways are clean...Friendly staff. Rickys all day grill served good food, service was good as well. Fionn bar has good beer selection... Good hotel for corporate stays. It has everything you need for decent stay.
Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Finn’s pub is attached to the hotel and was was a good place for supper and drinks. We were very happy with the hotel until we happened to look behind the nightstand and found a condom wrapper. This makes me question the cleanliness of the hotel over all...
Spent one night there to meet up with friends. Pretty decent place and spend a fair bit of time in the Irish Bar. Overall clean and what you would expect from a Holiday Inn. One down side the heat must have been working overtime while we were there as everywhere in the hotel was hot. The breakfast that is included for the additional cost is a waste of money. It is in Ricky’s all day grill. Very limited menu and you only get a choice of coffee OR juice.
Average stay for the chain, we stayed here in August when they were in full swing renovations also. Assuming they were done we arrived to a beautiful new lobby but were told there was no heated parking due to the renovation materials stored there. I wish this was on their website or app to let guests know since we arrived on a night that was -27 and would have parked inside. Rooms didn’t seem renovated on the second floor but weren’t worn out either. The stay was average except for the sander we could hear running the floor above us at 3am for about 20 minutes. Next time I’ll stay at the holiday inn closer to South Common since I’ve stayed there a few times also. Read my review on the in house pub Fiona Macools same trip.
We normally book down the road at a different Holiday Inn, but by error my wife was booked here for her work training. It was certainly satisfactory. We were on the 8th floor on the street side away from the tracks, and although we could hear the muffled sounds of trains, it was not an issue for sleeping.. It is conveniently located near Whitemud Road on Gateway Blvd. The one drawback is lack of access when travelling south on Calgary Trail.. You will need to circle back to access the Inn. The room prices are lower, reflecting the fact that breakfast is not included, but there is a Humpty's Family Restaurant next door on the same side of the street that opens early. (A separate review is forth coming about the good hospitality at the restaurant.) It is within short driving distance to South Common shopping as well as to the University of Alberta Campus and Hospital. The staff was friendly and we had privilege of a late check out. I mentioned that the toilet was trickling continuously and within the hour maintenance replaced parts to the toilet tank, solving the problem. The room was clean, and housecleaning service was very accommodating.
I think it's salt water anyway - tasted like it!! Regardless, the hotel has been renovated but they are still working on the indoor parking lot. Rooms are nicely done and quiet - if you ask for the opposite side of the train tracks. They have a REAL coffee machine with various espressos, lattés, and hot chocolate. We were there Ricky's reopened as well, which is attached to the hotel - decent food.
Noisy trains just outside window. Rumbling back and forth, hope I can get some sleep tonite. Sounds like they are building a train. Not sure what the front facing rooms are like. Irish Pub/restaurant has nice selection for lunch/dinner. Breakfast is served at neighbouring restaurant as hotel’s is under renovation.
Starting from the friendly receptionists there‘s Tony who needs special mentions. He was especially helpful to make sure I was happy with my stay. Rooms were very clean and the laundry machines on level 6 were a blessing. The usual restaurant got upgraded but the breakfast in the bar was something new and refreshing. The waiter was doing an amazing service and I miss the talks about sports and the many places he worked. Advice: ask for a room to the street as the other side features train tracks...
Hotel room was very clean. I'm very OCD with cleanliness and I found no faults. The bed was very comfy. The air-conditioning was very loud through out the night but I find this in most hotels in this price range. The coffee even though Kurig didn't have enough sugar or cream. Gym was average, also had a pool and hot tub.
Do NOT hand your luggage over to the front desk staff for safekeeping while your out and about. They kept my bag in the managers office with the door propped open all day. When they handed me my bag back I discovered my tablet was missing, along with my deodorant and my visine. The manager said he would do an investigation. I told him it was not left in my room it was in my bag. I remember clearly putting it in the bag and wondered if it should be next to my water bottle since it might get scratched. Do not trust them with your stuff!
