The view from the room was great, But in warm weather there is no way to get fresh air. The window only open a couple inches and there is no fan. It was hot and stuffy. The location is good, the rooms very clean,
No lift, 50 stairs to get to the second floor. Despite the outside temperature being 61 degrees, it was hot in the room. No ventilation, window only opened up 5", with a cover window that protruded into the room and was a hazard. Were provided with only one, very small piece of soap for two people for 4 days. Also, shampoo, body wash, and lotion was not resupplied. Location was convenient, but would not recommend, especially if stairs are a problem.
The place is nice and well located, but my rook was in a stairwell and incredibly loud. i could hear every word spoken by every person coming up the stairs as if they were in the room with me. The late night party goers were quite something.
Getting from the airport to the hotel via tram could not have been any easier! The hotel is literally across the street. The staff were incredibly friendly and there were great bar options. The room was very clean and it had an amazing view of the city. The drawback is that it was 90 degrees and no AC. It was difficult to get enough air through the window and pull shades because it's bright so early and late. I know it was a heat wave and that it usually would have been fine.
The Place is an ok stop though the rooms are small so be prepared - also there is lift thus you must carry or have them carry your luggage to your room.
Pack light, the stairs are tough but the staff atmosphere, bar and breakfast make up for it!
My room was below street level and felt like the basement. Larger than typical rooms in the area. Location is just a short distance away from princes street and old town.
The hotel is closer to the bus station, the train station is within walking distance, less then 10' walk. Spacious room, on the main street. Good buffet breakfast. Highly recommended.
My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at The Place. One thing that was very helpful to us and appreciated was that even though we were checking out to go on a tour to the Highlands, they allowed me to store my very large suitcase at the hotel for no charge. It was very helpful as I would have had to lug this suitcase with me. I was able to get my luggage when we returned from the Highlands. The staff was very nice as was the hotel.
Hotel did not meet any criteria at all No change towels.cleanness at the level of 0 The only positive point was location, but there are other hotels at the same location Street level of the room like below the ground ,it is not even an hotel it is probably hostel at the very low level
Great location. friendly staff. room small but met my needs just fine. Delicious food. friendly, efficient bar staff. definitely would recommend..... no problems at all....
The hotel is in the walking distance from Old Town and shopping area on Princess Street. The room was bigger than average and very quiet, which may not be the case if you are facing the street. Large, clean bathroom, likely recently remodeled. Internet was slow and frequently dropping connection. Hard mattress, which is a common issue in European hotels. Overall great hotel and I would stay there again.
Stayed here 2 separate nights. Good location in New Town. Tram stop is right outside, which is very convenient. About 10 minute walk to Royal Mile. It does get warm in the upper floors, so ask for a fan, which they have a limited supply of. WiFi was okay, slow at times. Staff is friendly and professional. Would stay here again.
basementroom was small and noisy and there was juice bottles left under the bed that the maid had not cleaned... But the staff was helpful and polite and the location was fantastic
My husband and I only had an overnight stay before heading back to the airport. The tram (York place) stop was right in front and was very convenient for getting to the airport. The staff was wonderful and kindly took our luggage in (and up to our room) even though we were several hours early for our check-in time. Pros: great location, beautiful interior, great room, wonderful staff. Cons: no elevator (a little tedious to carry heavy suitcases up and down the stairs), room was a little stuffy, you could hear your neighbors/noise was a slight issue. Great value and I highly recommend The Place for a short stay, especially if you need to get to the airport conveniently.
We arrived a little early at The Place, and they were nice enough to stow our bags until check-in time. We sat in their lounge area, which was pleasant and comfortable, to eat a snack. They had TV news on, but it wasn't jarring or intrusive. Our room was gorgeous and had a pretty view of the city. The bathroom was well-designed it only had a shower stall instead of a tub, but that was all that was needed. The room itself was a little small, but it held us and all our stuff, so it wasn't problematic. The WiFi left a little to be desired, as it was sometimes a bit slow. There are no elevators here, so carrying bags down the stairs was a bit of a chore (though we probably could have asked the hotel staff to do it, they were fantastic).
We had a dark room in the basement. Glad we only stayed one night. Very small room.
I thought the staff at this hotel were very helpful, the location excellent and it was very clean. Would definitely go back
The Place is well located, a ten minute walk from the major attractions of the Old Town, with restaurants and shopping nearby. Our room was large and pleasant, with a modern bath and a view of the Firth of Forth. The breakfast was more than ample. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. The only downside was a very slow internet connection, reminiscent of dial up modems 15 years ago, and complicated sign on procedures.
At two women staying in a foreign country, I found the place to be extremely well located and safe. It is less than 5 minutes walk from the train station and 10 minutes from Princes Street. Room was not at all noisy; good size and clean. Did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment. Lots of good pubs on Rose street and the mall was very close. Checkin was amazingly smooth.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our central location. I am sorry to hear that you found the room to be too hot, all of our rooms should maintain an adequate temperature between the ventilation from the windows and the use of fans, which are available upon request from the reception desk. Unfortunately the age of our building does not allow for a lift to be installed, but we will always aim to allocate you to a lower floor if you request it or, alternatively, assist you with your luggage if necessary. I am sorry that the toiletries provided were not enough to cover your stay, however, all of these items are also available from the reception desk, which is open 24 hours. We greatly appreciate your feedback and look forward to having you stay with us again on your next visit to Edinburgh. Best regards, Sabela

Dear G, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I am glad to hear you like The Place and enjoyed our location. I am sorry to hear you had issues with noise in your room. We do our best to control noise levels from other guests and I will investigate what caused there to be so much noise on this occasion. Thank you again for this feedback, it is invaluable in allowing us to improve the guest experience. Kind Regards, Daniel
