I liked it but was prepared by reading reviews saying it was not a Hotel in the normal understanding of one. Managers helpful and pleasant by way of changing some of the food for breakfast and snacks left in my room. Also I couldn’t open velox window so twice they came up to assist. No parking onsite was no problem but could be in high season.

Certainly the two beds were extremely comfortable, but we were not impressed when, for example, the bathroom door was too ill-fitting to even close, less still lock! One of the sash windows would not stay up, and we were left sleeping in an extremely hot bedroom. The fact that there is no 'proper' breakfast (other than a tray in the room with e.g. a couple of exceedingly cheap cardboard pots of porridge to be mixed with boiling water, and unappetising, cheapest 'croissants' etc) made us feel that the £660 we were paying for just four nights was ridiculously over-priced, especially when there is no private parking for hotel guests. North Berwick itself was as beautiful as ever, so it's high time that the owners of The Folly Hotel put some money and effort into restoring this building (which, we have since been told, was once public toilets!!!!). Only then might staying there be an attractive experience........

A great place for a stay in North Berwick

The room was clean and welcoming and bright. It's furnishings were modern and new. There was a well stocked snack basket and the Tunnock's mallow on the pillow was a welcoming touch. The hotel is situated across the road from the beach and minutes away from shops and restaurants. I would gladly return for a stay in The Folly.

This is a little gem! Perfect location. So many thoughtful amenities! Love the wee fridge with fresh milk and butter! Cozy rooms with clean new bedding and soft blankets. Quiet and peaceful. View of the water and golf course. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Cosy, enjoyable stay, perfect location.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Folly Hotel, my single room was small but very cosy and quiet, and the bed was so comfy! I had everything I needed. A welcoming basket of snacks is provided in your room on arrival and although cooked breakfasts aren't available you are provided with some breakfast food items in your room. I let the hotel know of my dietary requirements when booking and they very kindly provided some vegan breakfast items including instant porridge and yoghurt. My only complaint is that this was only replenished for two of the three nights I stayed there, so I had to go out for breakfast on my final day. I think there is a lounge with a TV and bar that is open some nights, but I didn't use this. Overall had a lovely stay in this ideally located hotel!

The location is fantastic. Room wasn’t worth price. Had kettle no cups or tea and coffee available. Breakfast was a prepackaged couisant or yoghurt but no spoon to eat it with. There no blind on window so light was streaming in and as soon as morning traffic started, you were awake or people in corridor walking past on creaky floor boards would wake you. Stairs to room looked dirty. Shower tray would fill with water as showering.

We dropped on this place at the last minute. Didn’t know what to expect. But it is warm and friendly and we absolutely loved it. So snug and comfortable, all you would need for a great night’s sleep. Looking forward to going back.

Quiet and quirky

Delightful, quirky hotel. Easy self check-in. Might like more history of the place - i gather it was a fire station and the name folly and the owl connection. Always good to have stories.

Pleasant stay

After a difficult entry ( dark and couldn't see the key pad number) had to phone and was helped. The room was very warm and comfortable bathroom clean and had great shower. Think I was only resident as after getting in I saw nobody ( bit spooky) All in all was excellent value and I would go back again

Cold and miserable stay

The room was cold and the dark green blanket provided was unclean. I had two bites on my lower left calf in the morning. The parking is unsafe, my vehicle was subject to a hit and run resulting in danage to my vehicle.

Tiny but acceptable

The room was everything I needed and less; 180 sf and tiny. But, still a value. There was no staff just a coded box with keys (get the code before you get in town, cell service is weak and I had to have my wife text me the code)! Easy in easy out. Good location. Single bed with no place for a second person unless you’re newly in love.

Clean comfy bed complete with Tunnocks Teacake!!tv,kettle,continental breakfast supplied in room,well stocked hospitality tray. Imaginative use of awkward shape building with lights and mirrors etc. Only quibble awkward shower entry exit if mobility probs but forewarned.Lounge dining area mid refurb so not in use but forewarned.I shall return if in area again,.Good base for business or sightseeing.
