Hotel Edda Hofn

Hotel Edda Hofn is a modern looking hotel right on the harbour of Hofn. It has views over the bay & glacier. Check-in was quick & simple and quite friendly. Our room 207 was on the second floor and there are no lifts so you do have to carry bags up the stairs. The room is nice and spacious, room to unpack bags and still have space. We had a nice view towards the glacier. There is heating (air conditioning isn’t needed) & Twin beds (2 single beds pushed together). There isn’t a TV or telephone in the room, but there are common area on both floors to watch TV. There is free WiFi but it is unsecure and unreliable. The bathroom is small but adequate. The shower has good pressure & heat.

The hotel is in a location where you can see across the bay. There are lots of restaurants in the area for seafood. We were tired and just ate ate the hotel. They were able to prepare me a salad, so I could eat since I'm allergic to many oils. The staff was very helpful about checking out our CC that only worked at some places. We wanted to check it out before we ate, so we knew we could pay. The room was adequate and the shower had only a small lip to walk over. It is about 3 inches high, so watch where you walk, especially at night. I clobbered my foot, but didn't hurt anything.

The room was very small and in need of updating. Bathroom was tiny. Bed comfortable enough and good heartng in the rooms. No tea/coffee facilities (you can buy tea/coffee in the lobby), no fridge, no TV. Parking directly in hotel carpark. Large reception area with seating. Compact restaurant. Paid $241A for one night, excluding breakfast. Staff were friendly. Hotel caters towards tour groups. Hotel main door is locked after 7pm or 8pm and you are given a key to a side entrance for exit and entry. Some construction and excavation going on outside the front of the hotel during our stay. Noise during the day only. Hofn has a good Netto store for groceries along the Main Street. Has a bakery linked to it at the entrance with some seating. We visited the busy Hafnarbúðin Restaurant for fried fish, burger and fries. Sells low alcohol percentage beer only! It's a tiny tiny place (maybe 16 seats) and you may have to wait for your order. You really just order, eat and leave. A mix of tourists and locals. You stink of frying oil when you leave and the air outside also. Meals were decent, worth a visit. Open 11am-10pm.

No extra frills here but you won't need more than what is provided. The rooms are pretty basic but very comfortable. Beds are nice, washrooms are nice. The breakfast room was very comfortable and had a huge selection of breakfast foods to enjoy. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall our experience was OK at the hotel. The rooms were nice and clean. The odd thing is that the toilets are for like 2 meter tall people. You feel like a kid sitting in the toilet with your feet almost hanging in the air. The hotel does not offer free buffet breakfast and when paying I believe it was 1700 ISK each for the breakfast we were expecting more. It did not include scrambled eggs or sausages which you get in most free buffet breakfast so we were basically paying to make ourselves a sandwich or eat cereal. Staff was courteous and helpful. Our room had a nice view to the sea so waking up in the morning was quite an experience.

We were here for two nights as we toured round Iceland. The service was polite and straightforward although could have been much more friendly. I think they were used to dealing with tour reps and couldn't be bothered to engage much with us when we arrived, other than to pass us the piece of paper to sign to check in. Our room faced the car park whereas rooms on the other side of the hotel had amazing views over the water and the glacier. There were stunning sunsets both nights which we could see from the communal areas but not from our rooms, so if you're booking in advance, definitely ask for a glacier view. The room was clean and pleasant, though the smallest one we stayed in of all the ones on our trip, and it was very noisy as we could hear next door's TV and voices very easily through the wall. I think it was perhaps converted from dormitories and could have done with more sound insulation. Breakfast was fine, a more limited selection than some other places but good quality and plenty of it.

As soon as you enter Hotel Edda Hofn, you see how welcoming and relaxing it is. The view from the hotel is so nice. Actually all rooms have sea views but one side sees mostly the parking lot and the sea is behind the parking lot a little far away. However the rooms on the other side have very nice sea views. Clean, comfortable rooms and beds. Breakfast was really well as well.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The view of the sea is gorgeous. There are several good restaurants within walking distance. The bathroom is small and functional. Compared to other places we have stayed at, this hotel was very acceptable for the middle price range in Iceland. There is nothing special to do in Hofn so just plan on an over night stay and hit the road. The staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly.. No elevator so if you have heavy luggage or issues with stairs call ahead and ask for a ground floor room.

Well situated between town and ocean with nice walks along shore to statue. Great vistas Especially from second floor. Walkable to restaurants. Clean modern facility and rooms. Good breakfast. Helpful staff.

When you drive on to the parking lots you can see the fassade crumbling. Which is the first time you start wondering if that can be the place you paid that much for. Interior is really nice, rooms are quite basic. Considering that all furniture is from Ikea and there's not even a TV in the rooms, prices are exorbitant. The soap in the bathroom was really nice, though. Breakfast was decent, nothing that "wow"ed us. Surroundings are mostly construction sites.
