Lovely surroundings. Our room was cozy. Nicely decorated but carpet could have benefited from a shampoo. En suite very small. Shower small if you are not very thin!
Window seat only sitting option which was ok if not closing curtains
Lovely food in the evening.
Breakfast average and not great selection for continental.
All in all though we would definitely return but would book larger room
Great service, very friendly staff, shout our ===

Staff polite, friendly and knowledgeable about the area, big shout out to Joanne who I requested a couple of extra things on top of our stay, {flowers and an extra night} very professional and made our stay extra special
Staff helpful on arrival. Let us into our room early. Thank you.
Location quiet but convenient for town park & ride to visit local attractions.
Room was airy & clean.
Breakfast good.
Only down side was the heavy fire doors that were noisy when going in & out of rooms. Shook the walls.
The venue is in a lovely location. Not far fro Durham city centre.

61 Durham is a lovely looking hotel with some building maintenance issues which is a shame.
The breakfast included in our deal was absolutely gorgeous, staff throughout were very personable. The lounge was also very comfortable, however the bedroom we stayed in was too small - a cosy double. Windows and sills need attention as does the surrounding plasterwork this side of the winter I would suggest. The ensuite was reasonably well maintained.
I appreciate the above concerns need money but I would suggest this would polish up what is essentially a lovely hotel within the Durham environs.

Disappointed
Drink options were good, always very sparse on staff vey often no one on reception, no telephone in bedrooms food was excellent compliments to the chef booked a deluxe room but was very basic no mirror over the table which was supposed to be dressing table
The property location is great, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. However , there was a noise from the hot water system (possibly)which switched on and off throughout the night. It made for a very disturbed sleep. The dining room was cold because the roof vents could not be closed. A shame because it could be great, and the staff are a delight
We did not really enjoy our stay, our room was small and poly and tired looking. Bathroom was clearly new and very nice. Unfortunately we had a very noisy family in the room next door which spoilt our one night stay . On the positive side , food very good and staff excellent.
It seemed very luxurious, yet we were welcomed hartily although we were sweaty after a day of cycling.

Property is in a tranquil location and has a lovely lounge but generally in need of a bit of TLC. Room, 103, was quite small with little space to put our luggage but clean and tidy. Shower cubicle so small it’s comical and we’re not big people. Problem with screeching water pipes kept us up at night, reception informed us that they knew and plumber fixing on Monday. Breakfast OK. Staff all welcoming.
I just stayed with my 16yr old daughter overnight for the uni Open Day. It was a nice hotel in an old building with a well kept garden. Room was comfy and clean with nice features like a window seat, newly decorated bathroom. It had a lovely sash window but peeling paintwork on the outside window sill made it look more shabby than it needed to.
A few things in service could be better to be 4 star. We arrived late evening 9.30pm and had said what train we’d be on. Reception was empty when we arrived with a notice to ring a mobile number if you needed anything. We rang it and the phone was at the desk.
Check in was fine and we were told where breakfast was but nothing else. Eg that the lounge had drinks etc.
Breakfast was very good and the staff were lovely but no-one there for a while to check you in but clear you had to as there was a list as you came in. It took a while to come and take our order for hot breakfast including coffee.
So there were just a few little touches that I would’ve expected if it’s going to call itself ‘luxury’ 4 star. But we still had a very comfy stay and would stag again.
