We booked Sun Gardens as it boasted how family friendly they were and how many awards they had won. Maybe the service is better during the season but travelling in October we weren’t greeted with the amazing family friendly hotel that was advertised. When we went for meals in the buffet restaurant and the Italian restaurant we were pushed to the back of the restaurant. We asked three times for a hair chair on the first evening and were forgotten about and had to ask multiple times each meal for straws for little mans drinks. The main restaurant is a buffet restaurant and there was nothing particularly suitable for toddlers who didn’t want to eat the exact same as the adults. The pools are not heated and even the spa pool was too cold for an 18 month old. The food was ok at best but the drinks were absolutely extortionate. I don’t think the accolades of family friendly hotel of the year are particularly well appointed based on our experiences.
Dubrovnik is one of the most picturesque places I have visited. Sun Gardens has one of the best locations possible. It is right on the sea and housed in a quiet zone that is perfect for unwinding. It is only about 15 minutes away from the old town hub that gives you a choice to be a part of the hustle and bustle. The rooms overlook the sea and has an incomparable view. Staff are very helpful and courteous. The breakfast spread offers so many options that you will never complete a full cycle even if you stay two nights !!! Food is also great here.
Overall this was a really great stay. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 was due to a few areas that you would expect a 5 star to hit consistently. Overall the service was friendly and personable from check in, spa, wait service, hskp. The room was spotlessly clean, well appointed and had everything you needed (except an iron and ironing board). When requested it was quickly delivered but the iron was leaking water when turned on. A quick call to reception another was being sent but then it took about 40 minutes to arrive with another follow up call. The food is as you would expect in a resort of this quality and a 2 course with drinks typically cost around £30-£50 which I felt was good value. Dinner in the main lounge in the bar, the steak restaurant and fish restaurant. All were good but each had its own disappointments but these were only minor and wouldn’t put me off dining there or worth mentioning the specifics. The on-site travel agency is handy to have in the resort but due to a bat sneaking in whilst I was being looked after caused a less than ideal booking process. There’s always plenty of uber around to get about and yes it is a bit away from old town but that is what makes it special. Would I stay again - absolutely but would also try somewhere else too.
This hotels has 2 receptions we arrived at the wrong reception so we’re shown the door by irena at the hotel reception and told to walk to the residence reception. We obediently took our bags pushchair and walked, this was our welcome. Patrija at the residence reception was lovely welcomed us and acknowledged our 2 year old. She arranged for a golf buggy to take us to our room having seen the amount we had to carry. She was friendly as are the others at this reception. Day one at breakfast went fine however day 2 onwards a conference group arrived so each morning they are given priority over any family groups. We spend the morning asking for a high chair only to be told there isn’t one for us despite others arriving after us and getting one. Then the hunt begins to find one ourselves and dragging it to our seat, staff Renata watch on rather than help. This morning we were seated by a doorway by the lady Nikolina who seems to be in charge, but no longer makes eye contact with us as we have asked her too many times for a high chair and she has been distracted by the conference group who are far more important. Usually we wait 20 mins for a seat and high chair at breakfast today there were others with plates of food standing around with no where to sit. During the day we drive outside the resort so no complaints for other meals This resort is a garden resort so bring insect repellent and after bite as we had to pay over the odds for this here. Views are great and the place is clean, if the service was improved this would be a recommended hotel
The hotel & spa are both outstanding. The view and landscape are breathtaking. Service is less than average: rooms are clean but don't expect that details will be taken care of (won't refill amenities, wont take out the rubbish, won't refill water., they won't clean the toilet properly nor make the room nicely .unless you don't ask..many many times..). People are not friendly and not helpful at he hotel, spa and shops inside the resort: courtesy and customer service are so not there.
Awesome restaurants, helpful staff, beautiful setting, spectacular views, wonderful spa, fantastic fitness center, very self-contained luxury hotel. The property is really spread out over a large area. If you are lucky enough to be staying in the "residences" (which are large suites with separate living room, bedroom, kitchenette, dining room patio overlooking Adriatic Sea), you may have a bit of a hike getting to the lobby depending on which building you are staying in. Smaller number residences are closer to lobby. There are a lot of stairs (and some elevators) because the hotel is on the side of a hill. So many restaurants to select from. 3 pools. Great place for a conference. Overall, a relaxing oasis 30 minutes away from Old Town.
Perfect location for large international conference, great views, multiple restaurants on site, pools and beach. Only drawback - it is located 30 minute drive from old town of Dubrovnik (shuttle, Uber or taxi available). Breakfast is an amazing buffet!
Stayed 4 nights Superb water views Had a residence which Had a great and Well appointed kitchen and lounge area. Resort has 3large Pools and a pebbly beach. Great breakfast ,with several restaurant in The Resort. Very friendly Resort staff Enjoyed the sports centre and gym with reasonable equipment levels
Very good service and kind people. Beautiful scenery and view. Super good fish restaurant. Excellent breakfast. We stayed in A residence and it was very well equipped. I can warmly recommend to all kind of travellers.
Huge hotel/complex catering for all needs. There is a variety of restaurants, a small supermarket, some shops and a spa. It’s 20mins from Dubrovnik old town and they have a shuttle bus or boat to transport you there and back 90HRK each. We stayed in a one bedroom residence suit which was huge with large balcony having breathtaking views of the sea. The main hotel seems more like a business hotel. It hosts company conventions which can interrupt the use of parts of the complex as they host private parties which mean certain areas are closed off to the rest of the residents e.g the Sun Set bar was closed for our use - slightly frustrating. It’s perfect for families and also has an adults only pool if you want a bit a piece and quiet. If you like modern hotels with all the facilities so you don’t need to leave then this is the place for you. Overall a very nice hotel with incredible views.
