We stayed one night at this hotel while attending a friend's wedding reception. We arrived on a hot July Sunday and were immediately impressed by the position of the hotel and the views from its large rear terrace. We were allocated a room on the first floor, left our luggage and went to the pool bar for a drink. On returning to our room to shower and change for the evening's festivities we found that it was incredibly hot and stuffy as it looked like the air con was not working. This problem was reported to reception and we were told it would e looked into. An hour or so later reception advised us that the air on was working it on checking it was not! We were offered a room change but when we looked at it the air con was not working there either! Eventually we were given a room on the second floor where the air con was working.......... bliss!! Sadly were were left to move all our things ourselves. I was not impressed!! When a hotel room is serviced between guests everything should be checked to ensure there are no problems. Monte Del Re has a wonderful position and great character and could be so much better with more capable management. Breakfast before we left was uninspiring.
This hotel has everything to make iT a superb stay: location and history. But unfortunately is also proofs that hospitality is a business for real professionals... The hotel and the room itself needs some renovation, it gives the feeling it 'has been' beautiful. We stayed a weekend during which there were two weddings. No problem if... the hotel didn't put there hotel guests at second or third level of importance. We did for example to make a tour (outside) around the hotel to access the pool and the restaurant , because the terrace was occupied for the weddings. Open windows at night are of course no option... if you want to have some sleep. The breakfast on Monday (9am) was not worth the name: no eggs or hot dishes, not enough seats for the guests, no more bread, no ham or cheese, etc. By the checkout I only got a : "we're sorry". Conclusion: not worth the price and to avoid!!!
Twice a Week the hotel grounds are invaded by TWO OPEN AIR DISCOS blaring different types of music one on top of the other till 3 am that make the triple glass windows tremble . I had to put ear plugs to try and catch some restless sleep. Some idyllic country resort indeed! The bathrooms are fitted with old fashioned hand held phone showers without a thermostat . Receptionists are incompetent and badly dressed make you feel unwanted. At the pool I was told the kitchen was shut at 13.50 when the menu posted open till 15.30. I managed to get a meal after complaining. There is one lift for 2 people to serve two whole floors . There was a queue at it when we arrived. If you don't mind staying awake till 3. 00 on Wednesdays and Fridays in a COUNTRY resort hotel or paying 4 euros for a bottle of water from the mini bar, this is the place for you. P.S. the pool is ok.
The hotel was originally a 13th-century monastery and renovated to a beautiful country manor. the room was really comfortable and clean, and the restaurant was exceptional cuisine. The nearby village off Dozza is worth a visit and the castle has an extensive range of wines from the region.
We staid for a couple of nights back in March and it was such a great surprise. Location is just breathtaking on top of a hill, surrounded by fields and you can see as far as the sea. We had a very warm welcome, staff speaking excellent English and showed us to our room which was quirky, but very spacious and clean - with great views to the pool and sea we could have just staid in all day. What is also amazing is exploring the surroundings of this old big villa, enormous gardens and big swimming pool- it s a shame we arrived before season had started and couldnt see it to its full extend. The only let down was breakfast, for what the property offers overall the buffet was extremely limited, to the point of becoming redundant - even to get a coffee we had to go and find the waiter who was serving at the bar area at the same time. Complete let down, either upgrade facilities or just drop breakfast, as value for money is so good anyway that it wouldnt matter. We would definitely go back and stay a bit longer to explore the sourounding area.
We have received an amazing hospitality. My dogs have been treated Royalty and enjoyed the great walks in the surroundings along with sweet treats from the kitchen! Everybody went out of their way to make our "long stay" pleasant. Rooms are comfortable. Can't wait to get back here in the summer and enjoy their beautiful pool! I will come back !
The water pressure and temperature in the shower varied wildly during the course of a single shower. The disco downstairs was loud. They told us there was a shuttle to the train station but that was false. We went broke taking cabs. When we checked out they explained the charges to us but wouldn't show us anything in writing until after we'd signed the credit card receipt. When we got home we realized they had transposed 2 numbers, charging us more than they should have. We exchanged many emails and they said they would refund us the difference but they never did.
I visited Hotel Monte Del Re for New Year's Eve and found the Hotel beautiful. Great location and the overall appearance of the facility was beautiful, however, the food was "horrible". I expected so much more than what was provided. I could not eat the soup and the service was terrible. At one point my plate was thrown on the table. The remainder of the meal was not much bette than the soup. At one point I just wanted to leave. I do realize this was New Years Eve, but the music and sound was so loud I could not have a conversation with my friends. When ask if the sound could be adjusted, we were ignored. Such a dis appointment, especial since Anthony Bourdain recommended this place a few years back.
Had a wonderful poolside dinner as a kind gesture from the restaurant manager this week. The choice, quality and service were all fabulous and e meal more than mad up for a recent past hiccup . The redemption meal will be long remembered as a lovely evening and I will retun again and again
We stayed here for two nights, two adults and one teenager. We loved it! The view from here is amazing, the location is beautiful on the hills outside Bologna. The hotel itself is an old historical building , the rooms modernized and comfortable and clean. Interior of rooms fits very well to building! There is a appreciated pool where also people from outside are welcome. If sunny, be early as pool area is small! The breakfast is very good and also food in restaurant is excellent! Staff is friendly and we can warm recommend this place. Be aware it is 25-3 min drive to center of Bologna.
