Apart from the convenient location, the hotel lacked everything. The bedroom contained dilapidated furniture, was very dirty and the bathroom even worse. Opened the window to my horror to see a very dirty wall with pigeons' roosting. We arrived too late at night to find another hotel. I can honestly say this isn't just a budget hotel but a dump!!
In the centre this hotel is just for a renting a bed and bath. Don't expect anything else. you'll have a feeling that it's a house of your grandmother, very interesting choice of furniture. If You're a tourist who needs a roof above a head during one or two 🌃 it is a nice choise. Besides that it's a few steps from a central station.
My husband and I stayed for one night and had a terrible experience. The noise from the street below (drunk people, singing, yelling, fighting and what sounded like a very diligent street cleaner!) was so loud neither of us got any sleep at all..and we were on the top floor! It was so loud when we got in we actually thought someone had been in our room and opened the window. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, but when I book a hotel I do expect to be able to get a good night's sleep. It's also worth noting that we met with some local friends in the evening and they dropped us at the hotel after dinner. They were actually quite concerned that we were staying there because it's apparently in a dodgy location (which, to be honest, we'd suspected when we first arrived). When we left the hotel for the airport at 645am there were a couple of people sitting in the hotel doorway smoking drugs. In our booking we were also told that parking was available. However, it wasn't and we had to park in a parking garage a few streets away (which was a bit of a harrowing walk in the dark early morning - the people smoking drugs in the doorway weren't the only intimidating people we passed). Avoid it like the plague. We stayed at the City Hotel Dortmund a few days earlier and it was excellent - clean, comfortable, safe, quiet, excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. We'll be staying there when we return.
We stayed here for 1 night. We got a nice big double room. There was a bath and shower. Everything was tidy and clean. Perfect location. Close to shopping, music, restaurant, trainstation. Lovely breakfast area and friendly staff. One downside, i forgot to ask for the wifi password and i doubt it was available in the room.
Hi folks, The 45eur room is a budget one with shared bathroom (its only 3-4m far away). Also the elevator goes only until 3th floor...you have to walk to 4th floor. If you can pay 65eur, book that one. Its clean and breakfast is good. The Hotel location is great, only 200m from Main railway station. Also the Downtown is at your feets.
I booked Hotel Carlton for three nights stay in November 2017. The hotel is located very centrally within easy walking distance from the central train station and Westenhelweg str. (main shopping street). The building is quite old and the rooms are also decorated not so fashionably but everything is spotlessly clean. The breakfast is also a typical German breakfast which is sufficient for such a budget hotel. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. Reception desk is manned by a very friendly and English-fluent chap named Mr. Peter and he caters all the requirements of guests. For the first night, I was given a room which did not have W-Lan coverage and they changed the rooms for the next two days. I was given a very spacious room (room 210) at the second floor with two beds but I was charged for a single-room! The hotel is non-smoking strictly but guests at 2nd floor can smoke in the small balcony on that floor. All in all my stay at Hotel Carlton was lovely and I need to thank hotel owners and Peter for their efforts. If you are searching for a budget hotel with central location in Dortmund, this option is spot on.
Hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the train station and main shopping area, but apart from that positives are hard to come by... We had a large room at the back of the hotel so it was relatively quiet, but as a previous reviewer had mentioned the rooms are sparsely furnished with limited facilities. We had a fixed shower over the bath but there was no shower curtain, a tv with over 50 stations but none in English, and curtains which let the light in the room at 6.00am every morning. Breakfast was average with the usual choice of cereals, cheese, meats and yogurts etc, and the eating area was nicely furnished and quiet on the times we were there. Reception staff only spoke a little English, and a smile now and again wouldn't have gone amiss! I wouldn't recommend the Carlton as there are other hotels in Dortmund that will have better facilities, are as well located, and can match the hotel in price
The hotel occupies a good location, minutes from the coach and rail stations and even closer to the central shopping area. My room was very generous in size if a little Spartan but for an overnight or short break its fine. Breakfast was a little bit no frills but covered the usual German buffet components.
Great position, the hotel is based a few minutes on foot from the main station, is nearby the city center and christmas markets. The room was ok with all service, the breakfast was good and the staff very good, especially Mr Peter (if i am not wrong), he was so kind and polite. He explained to us everything about the city and things to do and it was very enjoyable talking with
Huge room, friendly staff, convenient location and fantastic value, Clean and tidy. Nice breakfast. I'd recommend if you're looking for simple accommodation the Carlton is recommended. Its not 4 star luxury but you won't get better value for the price. Single room 40E per night inc. tax and breakfast. 80 for a double
