Golden Eagle Motel2.5 out of 5.0

We booked the motel for one night. It was a real motel. The shower head was good and it was hot. It was clean but it was very basic. If you are heading to Lava Beds you might want to keep going to Kalmath Falls.
After driving over an hour from Lava Beds Natl. Monument to reach Dorris, we arrived at the Golden Eagle with our written confirmation in hand (complete with assigned room number), only to be told there was no record of our reservation and no room available. The man at the front desk said the manager was not there and that he was just helping out. He said he had just arrived that day and seemed somewhat confused by the whole situation. It was 7:30 p.m, dark, and we were totally unfamiliar with the area. We had no choice but to drive another hour down the road to find a place to stay that night. Upon arriving home several weeks later, we found two messages from Rachel, the manager, waiting on our voice mail. The first asked if we were still coming. As this reservation was secured by a credit card, this shouldn't have been an issue, as our card would have been charged even if we hadn't shown up. The second message said she was sure she had spoken to me and that I had decided to cancel. At no time had I spoken to Rachel or anyone else at the Golden Eagle, and I certainly did not cancel our reservation. I contacted the Golden Eagle through their website, hoping for some sort of explanation or apology, but they have offered neither. I believe the two messages on my home voice mail were left just a few days before we were to arrive, and since we live at least 2000 miles away, there is no way we could have gotten these messages at that late date, a fact they should have been well aware of. This may be a nice place to stay, but if you do decide to stay here, you might want to be sure they haven't decided to give your room to someone else before you drive any distance to get there!
Clean, basic comfort. Stay here when you come to explore the Klamath Basin/Tulelake Wildlife Refuges. Support business people who consciously work to provide an excellent product at a very reasonable price!
Meagan and gus are amazing they go above and beyond what management but I would go out of my way to stay here they treated us complete respect made us feel like part of the family rooms are clean just all around great place to stay
I enjoyed my stay at the motel. The new managers, Gus and Megan, are very friendly. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay in northern Cali, come to the Golden Eagle motel. You won't be dissapointed!
Excellent for what it is: a motel (not a hotel). Affordable, clean, and safe, with friendly folks running it. Dorris, CA is a bit noisy with trains and trucks, but that's not the motel's fault. The motel is a mere 4 minutes from The Lower Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge (and 8 minutes from the best spot to view bald eagles perched in trees--the west entrance to the auto tour route off of 161). I highly recommend it!
Looking at the room price I was expecting may be stained carpet, rundown room, bathrooms etc... But decided to stay anyway as it's close to the wildlife refuges where I wanted to take photos of bald eagles. Now I am glad I made that decision. My experience was nothing like I imagined. The room was way better than the rooms I have paid more than double the price in the past in other hotels. Everything was clean including the bathroom. Had fridge and microwave...free wifi...and a study/work desk. This is going to be my home base whenever I go to the Klamath area....
Clean, although a bit shopworn. I would stay there again (and will) for local pursuits. Hospitality House Inn for prime Rib dinner Breakfast across the border or in Merrill Or.
Don't be fooled by the half decent looking photo on their website. Dreadful place, disinterested staff, stick to your feet carpets, shower only designed for people under about 5'2", horrible decor, paper thin walls and worst of all filled with loud, fighting, drunk and then snoring truckers. Stay here and forget about sleeping.
Good, clean motel, good sized room. Room had microwave and coffeemaker. Minimal breakfast provided but for the price can't complain. A general store across the road provided all we needed. Pleanty of eating places in town. Trains pass through Dorris during the night sounding their horns as they go - very noisy. Some guests left (noisily) early in the morning.
