Stayed for a weekend at a function. The accommodation was very good, a bit of a long walk to the room, and if booking would advise if you have mobility issues to discuss it first with the hotel. Rooms are very good standard hotel accommodation. Now for the less positive. As my drink is sparkling water with a drop of lime, the prices fluctuated depending where I was. From €2.90... still expensive to €3.70 extremely expensive. On both evening had the bar menu, first night was great and really enjoyed the banoffee pie, so decided to have it again, as one does, on the Saturday night. Out came a gateaux, four times I asked for a banoffee pie, and eventually gave up. Now the staff were very pleasant, but was a bit disheartening. In saying that the food was good.
Its been a long time since I stayed here and the main part of the hotel has not changed at all, but they have a fab new part to the building,(if booking ask for the new section of the hotel) where there is a brand new reception area that has not even opened yet. I had a good room overlooking the river which was nice apart from the hand basin tap which is so big you cannon even wash you face without pouring water all over the floor. Not designed by a man for shaving at.The food and service was very good and reception was very helpful. Be prepared for a long walk to the new area as it seems to be a long way to the room and what you think to push on the lift in the new area ie: 1 brings you down to the new unopened reception area. NO sign on lift to say push 2 for reception. I will stay again as it,s good for food and service.
To start with the staff are very friendly and helpful. Food served in the bar is fairly good, but the service isn't that hot. On more than one occasion we had to chase an order. Room was not that comfortable as it had a narrow double bed, instead of a queen, which is generally standard these days. One us opted to sleep in the single bed as we just couldn't get comfortable. The headboard was the width of a queen bed mind you. Bathroom was a good size, which begged the question why there weren't any towel rails or toilet roll holders? The shower head was a type where you could select the spray type. In one of the rooms we had the shower was stuck on dribble mode. The decor around the communal areas is looking somewhat tired. This hotel has the potential to be a good experience, but it needs a bit of attention in some areas.
Beautiful spacious rooms ,nice Garden restaurant full of light ,sadly left down by poor service , lack of warmth ,limited menu choices, asking €14 extra for steak on the dinner menu. No seat or Greet . Very hit and miss. Very good bar and pleasant service, also Leisure center, manager very helpful. There is room for staff training and better customer service to feel welcomed and appreciated.
I visited the Jackson hotel for one of their midweek break specials, which includes breakfast for two nights and one evening evening meal. Myself my Mum and my daughter. On arrival a wedding party was also arriving. This resulted in a long check in process. I was moved to a new room as I was told at check in I was right in the middle of the wedding party. Dinner in the hotel was delicious y Mum and I really enjoyed it. The issue was the fire alarm going off at 3am which made me jump out of my bed with fright! No one came to say there was no fire so I assumed it was the rowdy wedding. When I spoke to the manager next day he was extremely apologetic and offered us dinner. The next night I slept soundly as there was not as much as a pin drop. I would recommend this hotel, great staff, delicious food and also the leisure center deserves a mention! The deals are value for money here.
Stayed in jackons for September weekend bed and breakfast was excellent the morning breakfast was great and the staff were very good and helpful the rooms were excellent and cleaned every day lovely and fresh dining in the restaurant was great the food was cooked to your satisfaction and it was of local products and again the staff was excellent what a lovely place to stay and we have it booked for new year again
We were on a Friendly Planet trip through Abbey Travel in Ireland and were told Jackson's Hotel would be a four-star hotel. When we arrived we were told we would be staying in the "old" section as opposed to the "new" section. When we took a shower (you stand in the tub) the "old" shower head was corroded and shot water out of the tub onto the bathroom floor everywhere. We had a similar old shower head at our home about 15-20 years ago! There was almost no water pressure in the sink area. I called to say we couldn't get any hot water and the receptionist said I would have to turn the faucet handle until I could get water. I can tell you that I turned and turned and turned and finally got dribbled water! My husband could barely clean his shaver due to the lack of pressure. Thankfully we were only here one night. My recommendation is if you cannot get an updated room, keep driving until you find another hotel!
Stayed here for a birthday trip. Beautiful hotel. Wonderful staff. Bar food was delicious, the evening meal was amazing & the breakfast was also a delight. It was sunny weather which also made the break away even better. I would recommend this hotel. Spacious, spotless & great decor. Good parking facilities & a lovely town close by.
Hotel has good, specious rooms in the new wing of the building. From the reception to the room is a long walk. Room was spacious and clean, the view (overlooking Ballybofey and the hills) is great. The food in the bar is good. One dish had a small piece of plastic in the mashed potatoes. The dish was replaced without any discussion, although no compensation was offered (free drink for example). Breakfast is good, coffee is not! Ask for coffee from the bar.
The excellent reception staff warned me,-"it is a long walk (and climb) to your room, but it will be worth it, and it was-even with a view I had never seen before over the river Finn. So far so good, although it was a long way indeed to transport luggage. However, having decided to have dinner in the hotel rather than as planned eat at Harvey's Point, I could not believe I was in the "Garden Restaurant"-sat at a bleak table with a raucous assembly of guests off a bus all at a long table,-the whole scene was like one from a boarding school. The menu was basic and more akin to a local cafe. Breakfast was a shambles. Obviously totally DIY. Cold food on the "hot" plates. A "head" waiter from overseas who had to be told to clear up the mess around the tinned fruit and jam.
