On approach it is quite a modern looking hotel but with a beautiful grand staircase. Check in was easy and I was very happy with the room, large roomy with very nice grand furniture. Breakfast was from a buffet but served by the chefs so it is kept nice and fresh. Oh nearly forgot to mention the bar. Nice atmosphere, live music but not too loud with a large outside seating area.
This has to go down as a nightmare stay. I paid £155 for a family room for my wife and 2 kids. After my eldest taking ill and my wife staying at home with her, I took my youngest down to enjoy some bonding time together. After going to bed the room was unbearably warm and noisey. The room was like a sauna and the huming noise from some sort of fans outside ridiculous. I rang reception at 2230 to complain and they told me my room was above the kitchen and they would turn the fans off. Not being able to leave room myself the fans went off at 2300 only to come back on at 0100. So this gave me and my child 2 hours sleep until fans started again for the rest of the night! So both of us were very tired angry and upset in morning. On checking out I explained to the manager about our night of hell and I got 20% of our bill back and 2 free passes to lurgybrack farm. Not only this but a free upgrade next time we stay. Just very disappointed as we have been several times before as a family.
recently stayed in the clanree hotel attending family wedding. Hotel was clean and comfortable and wedding itself was brilliant, food was lovely and plenty of it. our double room was a bit small but i heard other residents had larger rooms. Only let down was that residents bar shut right away at half 3 even though there was still a good few about, unusual for a hotel. Overall we had a great time
Stayed here for 2 nights recently with my wife. Overall we were fairly happy with the hotel, we booked 2 nights B+B plus one dinner in the hotel. The dinner was fantastic with a lovely 4 course menu and the waiting staff were very nice. The room was fine, on the small side but big enough and clean. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection and again very pleasant, friendly staff. Some slight issues, the hotel sits on a very busy road and there is a LOT of traffic which means it is very noisy. Our room was at the front of the hotel and as a light sleeper I was awake in the morning when the traffic got busy from 7am onwards. I would strongly recommend requesting a room at the back of a hotel if you are a light sleeper. Also, the Bar McGettigans was nice, but seemed to be open to the public and was quite noisy and rowdy, especially on one of the nights so we left pretty early. Also, there was a major lack of bar staff which led to looong waits for drinks. So in summary, a nice hotel to use a base to travel around beautiful Donegal and I would book it again for this reason. Wouldn't be my first choice as a place to spend time but with so much to see in Donegal there is no need to be in the Hotel for too long!
Just home after two nights in the Clanree Hotel and we really enjoyed it! We went with my wifes parents. Her dad needs Gluten free and pretty much the entire main restaurant menu was gluten free so he had a world of choice. The staff knew the detail around Gluten requirements and even at breakfast time they had Gluten free bread and cereal out and a separate toaster too! We really enjoyed the main restaurant both nights. The staff were attentive and friendly and there was a sense of occasion with the dining experience. Breakfast was in a large dedicated room with lots of choice and an automated pancake maker which kept me amused both mornings. We had a few drinks in McGettigans bar and again staff were great. Downsides? Its on the side of a busy road and the hotel and car park fill the site, so dont expect grounds to walk around. And likewise there are no "views" from the bedroom windows but it is what it is and we couldnt really fault it for the price. We will definitely be back. Paul & Hilary.
Recently stayed at clanree hotel letterkenny county Donegal great hotel, great food staff excellent and very pleasant they couldn't do enough for you .I will be back and I would recommend to anyone for a holiday
We stayed at Clanree during a family road trip around Northern Ireland and Donegal. We found it comfortable and the staff were really friendly. The breakfast was great as well. The hotel is easy to access, situated on the main road into Letterkenny about a five minutes drive from the centre and the town's huge retail park. There was plenty of parking. The reception hall is enormous, and certainly an impressive sight on first arrival. The receptionist was welcoming, and our family room was pretty spacious, with two double beds. Wifi was quite slow. Staff were pretty quick at responding to problems - we couldn't get our window open, and someone turned up soon afterwards to rectify the problem. Breakfast was great, with a big choice of cereals, cooked food and pastries. The dining room was huge, so there was plenty of spaces to sit, even with the arrival of groups from coach parties who were also staying at the hotel while we were there. The large swimming pool was also a favourite with our sons. Everyone has to wear a hat to swim in it, but these were on sale for €3.
We booked here due to the price and location to the sites we were seeing and from that point it was great. We were surprised that it was at such a busy intersection, we had a room in the front so it was very noisy all night. The hotel has a pool (must have a cap to use- they sell for $3) and a Jacuzzi which we used the first night but unfortunately it was broken the 2nd. We ate at the hotel bar and the food and service were great
When my wife and I arrived in Donegal at the Clanree Hotel, we were impressed right away when we entered the luxurious lobby. The elegant decor continued to the hallways and into our room. Very nice. We spent the evening in the pool area swimming and enjoying the sauna, which was decent, but not quite like the real thing (my wife is Finnish). We even met a few people there who were happy to tell us about some nearby places to go stargazing and hiking. We went to bed after that and only stayed the one night, but we had a great experience. The breakfast before check-out was wonderful and filled us up well for our journey over the border into Northern Ireland.
Had a great stay here a few months ago, 2 nights stay in a lovely room and great service. Not far from town centre, bar is great too with a lovely menu and the swimming pool with the jacuzzi is a bonus
