I had higher expectations when coming to this hotel considering the reviews as well as the fact that they place 4 star hotel wherever they possibly can. We were rather disappointed in the overall service of the hotel. The first front desk person we saw came off as quite rude, I also noticed that whenever we entered the hotel most of the receptionists seem to always be on their cell phone, very rarely did we get a simple hello. Considering we weren’t from the area, no one ever made an effort to help us to navigate our way around, which is something I would expect from the front desk of a hotel. Another thing to point out is that the hotel is SO hot! And so stuffy. As someone with asthma I found this a bit difficult, especially with sleeping. As we were facing the lovely view of the road we had to either sleep with loud road noise or try to sleep in a ridiculously hot room. And even with windows open it was hot! Another thing to point out is that where our room was located we could hear everything in the gym, so if someone was running on the tredmill it echoed into our room which was quite annoying, especially later on at night. I also think that breakfast should be included due to the price and the wifi needs to be stronger in order to handle everyone using it. We booked this hotel because it had leisure access however, we didn’t really get full access as they charge you for hats to use the main pool, according to them it’s due to 'hygiene' which is really just another way for them to make more money off of their guests. Out of principle we didn’t use the pool as we already paid for leisure access when booking the hotel and it’s just a scam to expect any more from your guests. The water in the room wasn’t drinkable, or we decided not to as it came out a really dark yellow colour. No ice machine in the hotel so we had to go down to bar and ask. I would also like to note that on the second day of using the jacuzzi the woman manning the desk was very rude and we had to keep prompting her for stuff such as towels, locker room key, etc. A bit of customer service in this hotel wouldn’t go amis. As there are so many nice hotels in the area, next time we are around Letterkenny, we will not be booking with this hotel. If you advertise leisure access, make sure you actually give your guests that.
My husband and I along with our 3 year old son stayed in the hotel on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th April 2018 Room 231. I must say we have stayed at other hotels in Letterkenny but found The Clanree in our opinion to be the best hotel in the area for quality, price and service. Upon arrival we are always greeted with a smiley face and made feel like royalty regardless as to whether we have booked using a groupon deal or with the hotel itself. Check-in is always stress free and the staff very knowledgeable and helpfull about events and interesting places to visit. We have stayed in different rooms and find each room, even when booked at the cheapest rate to be very comfortable and very clean and especially very large more like a suite. After unpacking it is so relaxing to relax with a swim and Jacuzzi, my husband really enjoyed his sauna and the steam room. The staff were very helpful with locker keys, towels and even arm bands for our son. The hotel bar serves the most amazing food at very reasonable prices and the portions themselves are very substansial. Every stay is very inviting, stress free, luxury rooms and 5 star service
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights 8/9/APRIL 2018. Had to move room the first night because of a loud hum in the room from the kitchen below. Second night was a disaster. Sound asleep at close to one o clock ,was awakened to shouting and very loud conversation going on outside my room door, followed by door banging several times.. Rang reception 3 times before the noise from the room next door decreased down to loud conversation and lot of raucous laughter. It's after 1 o'clock and having been woken up out of our nights sleep ,Paul the night manager, offered us the option to move to another room?. No mention of moving the three males who so rudely made the racket next door! I spoke with Annette, duty manager, before checkout the next morning. When I put it to her why we should move in the middle of our nights sleep and not the 3 offending male occupants, she exclaimed that they had only the one triple room, and that is why we were asked to move! As I was walking away from her in reception, Annette, the duty manger, exclaimed "At least you enjoyed the first night!! Did the woman not realise that we had paid for both nights not only the first night. I think her comment was flippant, and not very considerate. Unfortunately because of the manager's comment, I feel I must say that I enjoyed some of my stay, but, the state of the floors in this establishment leaves a lot to be desired: sticky tiled floors and filthy carpet in the dining area and lack of consideration of paying guests, speaks for itself.
Been to Letterkenny several times but never stayed in this hotel before, and my husband and I were actually disappointed in the service. We ate in the bar at lunch which was absolutely lovely, great service in there also! We then called reception to order room service, to be told that it’s cash on delivery only... never in my life have I ever heard of a hotel offering room service and can only accept cash, even though this does not state this ANYWHERE on the guest information book in the bedroom nor on room service breakfast card! Why offer it? As we didn’t have any euros in cash on our person we then had to do without. Rooms are absolutely roasting and unbearable to even try to get some sleep in. If I ever returned here it would be to just eat in Mc Gettigans! For a 4 star hotel, sort you service out!
Easter break with my two young children on sunday ages 2 and 6. As we arrived I noticed that there were lots of family’s here for the weekend and i asked as there is so many families would there be entertainment for kids which i was told no!...and told there was something on that night which was 20 euro each to get into and wasn’t suitable for kids as it was late on at night... As we made our way to our room down the corridor my 2 year old open a door which should have been locked and was about to enter when i ran to pull her bk only to find it was a door to the waste pipes and electrical cables and a large hole i dread to think what would have happened had i been not quick enough to grab her in my eyes it would have been fatal as you can see in the photos... I would like to see what clanree hotel has to say about this situation its an absolute disgrace!!!!
Just returned from a one night stay with my family in this hotel, what can I say, a fantastic choice. I couldn't recommend this place high enough for a family getaway. Staff at reception were very professional as were the other key staff including waitresses. There was one who stood out, a young girl with blue bits in her hair, not sure of her name, so apologies. The hotel was modern, clean, the leisure centre was very good too, as was the pool and the attendants. If there was anything I can recommend, the chef at breakfast was not reflective of other staff, he did his job but perhaps it was an off day, plus the barmen need more numbers. But all in all thanks to everyone, you made our wee stay very enjoyable.
On Urquarts Bus tour for St Patricks Day from Glasgow and stayed at Clanree Hotel I could not fault this hotel from the staff at reception to the dinning room staff ,domestics and chefs, everyone friendly polite and efficient . The food both at breakfast(best sausages ever !) and dinner was top class restaurant quality and presentation, . Would definately recommend this hotel spacious rooms lovely large bathroom.. They have a lovely pool as well . There was entertainment on which was really good and they have a their own pub attatched which was very reasonable and comfortable to sit as well . . Walking to Letterkenny took 20 to 30 mins I was told and 5 mins in taxi buses passed right outside hotel as well. There a good pub directly across the road if you like a change just watch crossing traffic coming off roundabout . Will definately go to this hotel again .
We stayed here for 2 nights. The front reception staff were really friendly and welcoming, good start! The room was clean and comfortable. One minus, the windows were steamed up the whole time, the view we could see wasn't great, as it was at the back of the hotel. The hotel decor was lovely. The atmosphere in McGettigan's bar was lively, and the food was delicious, and good value for money. The staff here were also very friendly. We will be back!
Stayed here for 2 nights as a family of four with children 12 and 9 years old. We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday, at the exact time as a wedding party arrived, so the queue for check in was fairly long. However, we really weren't kept waiting too long and the receptionist was efficient and friendly. I had requested a "quiet" room and indeed I was given a room at the back of the hotel and at the end of the corridor which was ideal as no passing wedding guests late at night. Indeed I think the hotel probably kept all wedding guests somewhere else as we weren't woken to anyone. We used the swimming pool during our stay and it was fantastic. The pool was really warm and not overcrowded. There is a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi in the same area so I was able to use them whilst still keeping an eye on hubby and kids in the pool and then swap with my hubbie. Leisure centre staff were really nice also. We ate in McGettigans Bar on both evenings and food was lovely. The bar was really busy both evenings but we didn't have to wait long for a table and the staff were really friendly. There was music both nights too and kids were able to stay there with us which was great. The only negative thing I could say about the hotel is that the bedroom was really hot. The window did open and we had to do this overnight as it was so hot and no thermostatic control in the room. Apart from that everything was just perfect, we have stayed elsewhere in Letterkenny but wouldn't look anywhere else again.
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights over the St Patrick's Day weekend. We had a friendly welcome at reception when we booked in. The room was lovely, we had 2 double beds. The bedroom and bathroom were clean. The bathroom was a good size. We visited the bar for a drink during our stay. It was busy with couples, families and groups. The bar was an impressive size and you could also have food in the bar. My husband used the leisure facilities during our stay which he found to be very good.I would recommend a stay at the Clanree. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.I look forward to staying again.
