If you are staying anywhere in Southern Costa Rica don't bother staying anywhere else. This is the best place to stay. We stayed for 4 nights and loved it. We left town and came back because the other town's hotel was trash compared to Rio Mar. Best villa ever hands down. The grounds are amazing, don't skip out on their little trail in the back either .This is the type of place where you could just stay on their grounds all day and be happy. We will be back. We did the Corcovado tour through them that was pretty damn cool, check that out. They picked us up from a hotel near the airport.Free breakfast, quiet peaceful and beautiful grounds. Like I said just stay here you won't be disappointed! 10/10
Our stay was spectacular. It's the most eco friendly hotel we've stayed at in Eastern Costa Rica. The gardens are beautiful and filled with local flora and fauna labelled with signs. They provide biodegradable soap, shampoo and conditioner locally made in containers instead of single use plastic. They support the Corcovado foundation which supports sea turtle conservation, environmental education, community cooperation and sustainable tourism. They have an amazing gallery of insects and butterflies. They also support the no straw campaign and only serve straws upon request. The sell local gelato and craft beer from San Isidrio, made just outside Dominical. They have recycling all around the garden and safety zones. It's absolutely wonderful. The staff were also incredible. Thank you Ariel, Gustavo, and Kevin for making it unforgettable. Suggestion: Add an organic compost to compost the restaurant food to save the planet and reduce global emissions.
We stayed here last minute a few months ago and liked it so much we stayed there again for almost a week while we did business in the area. It has everything you can possible need at a great price. comfortable, private air conditioned rooms on a beautifully landscaped property. A large pool, tennis courts, restaurant/bar area in walking distance of Dominical restaurants and beach. The room also comes with a fabulous hot breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. It is definitely our first choice when we our going to be staying in Dominical.
Great hotel area away from the crowded beach area. Extraordinary garden which attracts lots of birds. Really good place to have s rest from the tough tour in Costa Rica. The service in restaurant and from reception was excellent.
Our first stay here was last minute (as we could not stay at the place we had booked) but we liked it so much we ended up going back on our way back up the coast again from Drake Bay. Positives : the rooms are spread around the property in groups of max four so it is private. Facilities in both the rooms we stayed in were good. The gardens are fabulous and full of birds, we also saw lots of agouti, iguanas, a coati and a jesus christ lizard in the grounds, there is also a trail at the back of the property to look for more wildlife. Pool is large with lots of space to lounge. Included breakfast buffet is good with lots of choice. Restaurant food is also quite good and not overpriced. Close to the river and Dominical town and beach. God choice for families. Negatives: the staff were generally a bit grumpy. Some of the facilities could do with some renovation, like the minigolf and the shower attached to the wall with plastic straps.
Semi-detached cottages with a lot of privacy situated in a nice park. Small, private veranda. Lay out of room a bit funny. Two bed square of each other. Good, spacious bathroom. No WiFi in the room. Very nice and big pool with plenty of shadow. We had diner and it is advised to book a table in advance. Food is OK and service is excellent. Breakfast buffet isn’t that good, though. About 20 minutes walk to the beach (10 to the beginning of village) along a stony road. The beach was a disappointment. A lot of stones. It is a surfers paradise, but if you don’t like surfing the are nicer beaches around.
Stayed two nights with wife. Rooms are clean and safe. Bathrooms work well. Front Desk staff is friendly and helpful. Great restaurant for breakfast and all meals. The swimming pool was a bit crowded but peaceful.
Villas Rio Mar is a comfortable hotel on the river. The villas are located in its large landscaped hillside grounds. Our villa was quite high up but was very quiet. The Hotel had an excellent swimming pool which was popular with guests. Dinner was good but breakfast was the poorest we had on our entire Costa Rican trip. Very little choice with some of the dishes lukewarm. Surely they can do better?
We love this place, everything here is beyond magnificent, it combines great service and high quality on structure of rooms, pool, restaurant and common areas as playground, gardens, mini golf area and tennis court, it even has a nice and mysterious trail that goes up and deep into a beautiful mountain. We really enjoyed the pool area, is big enough to swim free with more people and do not feel like if you are on a crowded and small pool, also and I really should mention how quite and clean our room was, I really loved it and which to come again soon, is absolutely a must to go on the south of Costa Rica.
Ambiance around pool spoilt by loud music. Seemed down market. Ordered breakfast to go as was going out early . Poor result. Asked for a better one next day due to early excursion. Asked for a hard boiled egg and bread. After some negotiation the night before. ....that is exaclty what we got. An egg,dry bread and nothing else! Expected to have some fruit and a drink carton. Shower in room poor and in need of repair.
