Not only is Villas Alturas beautiful, the food was delicious. But the most special thing for us was taking the tour of the Wildlife Rescue Sanctuary on the premises. The tour guide was so knowledgeable about all of the animals and the reasons they were there. We learned so much and will continue to make donations to help support their efforts to help the injures wildlife. We did not spend the night as we live not to far away but we do plan a weekend trip back soon
This place was amazing! My stay was so incredible last year that I will be returning this April. The villas are clean, air conditioned and spacious. The view from the balcony is stunning, nothing beats the sound of the jungle in the morning. The pool is small but so is the resort which makes it the perfect size. The view from the pool overlooks the ocean, mountains and jungle. One of my favourite parts was being able to go swimming in the morning and enjoy the breath taking view! The food was wonderful. However, limited vegetarian options. I'd recommend trying a smoothie :) The staff are so friendly and willing to help in any way that they can. Even taught me a few Spanish words! I spent time volunteering at the animal sanctuary and loved it. If you're looking to give your time to a well run sanctuary that truly cares for the animals, look no further. Nearby activities (less than 30 min drive): Snorkeling, scuba diving, beaches, shopping (outdoor market and indoor shops), paragliding, waterfalls, surfing, SUP boarding through mangroves, ATVing.
We recently stayed at Villa Alturas with friends and we loved everything about it! The hotel is very small, low key, and lovely - the staff was welcoming and accommodating in every way. The concierge, Samantha, was very helpful in arranging a fishing trip for us with Carols, from Bahia Ballena Kayaks (see separate review). The rooms are all individual casitas with a kitchen (not sure who wants to cook with such a great restaurant right there) and a living room Each one has a spacious balcony with a table and chairs, a rocker and a hammock - and a fabulous view! The breakfast was exceptionally good - one of the best I have had anywhere! On our second morning we had to leave very early for fishing trip so they packed up breakfasts to go for us and gave them to us the night before. The tiny outdoor restaurant is apparently under separate management, but it is equally great. The menu is interesting, and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
We stayed 3 nights in Room #1 this February. This boutique hotel is outstanding for the views, and for seeing many birds at sunset, toucans, etc. The staff is friendly, food is great, and the rooms are really nice. It was great to have a kitchen to make breakfast and dinners in. On the downside, there was a family with a child in the pool 2 nights in a row, at sunset. They were VERY NOISY, (girl screaming . . .) and totally ruined the vibe of sunset. We did speak to the parents, and it didn't go well . . .
stay here from Feb 20th to feb-24th, what an mazing view!! if you want to relax and have a great view while you at it stay here. on top of a mountain, i would recommend you to rent a 4x4 to make access easy. you will not be disappointed the staff here is amazing, they would greet you every morning with a smile.... and tell you "PURA VIDA"! i loved it!! this is heaven on earth, i highly recommended this place.
First time reviewing anyplace I have ever stayed ....and I travel a lot! Everything about Villas Alturas was so wonderful that we returned a week later and stayed again. The view is spectacular.....great food ...huge living space......super clean and the management and staff beyond friendly and helpful.
The view is spectacular and the service warm and friendly . We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay and would come back in a heartbeat. Breakfasts were great and dinner selections also well prepared and delicious. You won't want to leave!
We just returned from two weeks in Costa Rica. Our first week was spent at Villas Alturas. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment next to the pool with the balcony overlooking the coastline. We stayed a bit longer than I would recommend (7 nights)- I was claustrophobic without having anything nearby to walk to, and not being anywhere near a beach. The downside is having to drive a bit to get anywhere. However, the hotel itself is great. It's small, the staff are super friendly, the food is amazing (expensive, but amazing- best in the area, we discovered), the views are spectacular- you can't see the sunset from the hotel but ask the staff to show you the secret viewing spot- you should not miss a single sunset in Costa Rica if you can help it. You will obviously want to go to the Alturas Animal Sanctuary- we were volunteering- it's just a two minute walk away from the hotel. If you are coming to this part of Costa Rica, I would definitely recommend Villas Alturas.
We were here for a wedding . The view is wonderful. There are no words to express watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee from the patio of Villa Alturas. Our room was spacious, and the full kitchen was an added benefit. The staff were very accommodating to our needs. I highly recommend this hotel.
Fantastic views from the room, restaurant and pool area. Good food and drinks at the restaurant with only vegan, vegetarian and fish options. Lauren, the manager, was very helpful and great to work with. When she discovered that we had overpaid at checkout, she had the money delivered to our next lodging. Highly recommended.
