our stay in Villas Alturas was the most excellent beginning of our costa rica adventure! Beautiful and very clean rooms with a fantastic ocean-view from the private balcony - the food is lovely - but the best thing about Villas Alturas were the staff. They were so helpfull and friendly ! We stayed in many places in costa rica - this place was one of the best!
I could go on and on about this place. Obviously their views are the reason to stay here. And if you want to get away from the bustle of Manuel Antonio, its worth the small drive south. Plus there is still SO much to do down here in Dominical. The villas a very nice, maybe a little simple, but clean, spacious and conformable. The pool was lovely. The surroundings; stunning. But in the end, it was the staff and service that really wowed us. We felt like part of a family here and were truly sad to go. Thank you Maria, Aaron, Franco, Andres...everyone! Hope to see you all again soon!
Upon approach and even arrival to Villas Alturas we thought we’d made a mistake in booking a villa for two nights for our six person family. It’s slightly out of town (if you can call Dominical a town) and the driveway is steep, gravel and long. The concierge, Maria, was friendly and after taking the remainder of our payment, showed us to our room. We were instantly satisfied. The villa was beautiful and the view of he pacific was breathtaking (we were in Villa 2 which I highly recommend). The staff was friendly and professional and relaxed. Cocktails were superb, breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica. Dinner was also among our best meals. If you haven’t been to Dominical, know that being close to town is not important. Villas Alturas is convenient to all three beaches and just being at the property you a purely joyous. This was the best value we found in CR. I can’t imagine a better option.
Easy to find just off the main highway up a long steep gravelly drive. Absolutely stunning views of the coast with a small, very warm swimming pool, sun terrace and comfy sunbeds. The room was large with a great terrace over looking the bay and a small piece of jungle..We had room 7. It was a little tired and the bathroom could really do with being updated with a cracked mirror and pathetic shower. The kitchen looked good but lacked utensils but the fridge worked well. I requested a kettle and they said I could borrow one but they needed it back for breakfast!!!! On the terrace were some nice rocking chairs and it smelt beautiful from the ylang-ylang tree which the toucans also found very attractive but one of the fans didn't work and a maintainent man looked at it briefly and swiftly gave up! The sanctuary was a really nice addition with the staff being very enthusiastic and informed. The menu was limited to fish and vegetarian dishes both of which my husband doesn't eat. This had not been pointed out at the time of booking which was frustrating but luckily there are some nice restaurants close by. Overall, i would say this property is living off its stunning location but we enjoyed our 3 days stay.
Private clifftop bungalows over looking the ocean, Scenic views, very comfortable cabins, great staff. Excellent breakfasts provided. The dining room option was very good, but pricey. Conveniently located near the Wild Life Sanctuary. Suggestion: cover the pool with a canopy to keep the pool temperature cooler.
Stayed for two weeks last summer with friends. Such an amazing place to stay with the best staff ever that really made us feel at home. Definitely a place you should stay at! The food was outstanding. Loved the fruit bowls for breakfast. The location is very good and close to everything around town.
We stayed just one night but we will forever remember the views. Villa was very specious and bathroom is absolutely huge. Staff is more than friendly and welcoming. Food in the restaurant (dinner and breakfast) was very tasty and little different than regular Costa Rican food. The reason for 4 stars - it was quite expensive. Dinner for 3, no appetizers and just two mojitos was $110. But this is a “boutique hotel” in the best sense.
Spent a week volunteering at the sanctuary with my teenage son and decided to splurge for 2 days after! Air con never felt so good. I believe we had villa #5 The view was incredible!! The villa was beautiful and spotless! Beautifully decorated ! They arraigned the Jungle ATV tour 👍 Excellent breakfast and service! Just be careful the tile on outside of pool is very slippery.
There is really nothing bad to say about this hotel. It was everything we wanted/needed in a resort! The room (Villa 3) had the most amazing view of the ocean and jungle. Each morning we sat drinking our coffee, listening to the parrots and watching the toucans fly by while enjoying the beauty of what this resort has to offer. The bedroom was air conditioned which was a must, since the weather was always hot and beautiful. The staff were exceptional and made our experience extra wonderful. I would recommend renting a vehicle because it is a more secluded resort and having our own transportation allowed us to experience more of the local life in both Dominical and Uvita. The food is amazing, but expensive, so having a vehicle allows for the freedom to eat elsewhere and experience what other restaurants have to offer. The pool was wonderful and because it is not a big resort, we often had the pool to ourselves.
Villas Alturas is a very carefully crafted hotel experience. The rooms are private bungalows and there are only 7 which makes the stay very intimate. The view is spectacular on top of a mountain and the food and bar are delicious. When I was there, I was also volunteering at the Wildlife Sanctuary down the road. It sure was great after working so hard for the animals all day to come back to that view, the pool and a cold drink. The sanctuary also holds tours which makes staying at Alturas all the more special.
