We loved this hotel! Small, unique, friendly, luxurious. What's not to like? The staff were excellent, led by manager Scott Dinsmore. Everyone was incredibly caring and dedicated. Nothing was too much trouble. Arrange a canopy zip-lining tour? No problem! Call to see when a turtle release at the local beach is happening? Of course! Make a special dessert that involves throwing lots of fire from one hand to the other? Why yes, por qué no? Pablo, El Castillo's Creative and Enthusiastic Chef made us many dinners "off the menu" and we trusted him completely. He obviously loves what he does and it was fun to see what he would come up with next. He uses all fresh ingredients and describes his dishes in both Spanish and English. The dining ambiance is very cool. On one of the nights we sat outside under cover watching the lightning and rain and listening to thunder as a storm blew through. Another night Scott had a French Canadian singer and her band come and sing in French, Spanish and English. Great to drink cocktails while looking over the edge of the infinity pool out onto the vast expanse that is the Osa Peninsula. Everything was top-notch, from the Las Dueñas café in our room in the morning to the simple, stylish decor throughout. High-quality and excellent customer service. Can't recommend it enough! I recommend doing the Canopy Tour, going to Corcovado Park (skip Cano Island--too far for not great snorkeling), and the Pavon waterfall and restaurant nearby where they grow their own fish in about 30 ponds. Otherwise, we hung out at the hotel and chilled. Awesome, welcoming place. We've already reserved the Honeymoon Suite (that is just now being built) for 2020.
We live in the area and have visited El Castillo for sunset, cocktails and dinner many times. Using a special occasion and the quiet of Green Season as an excuse, we treated ourselves to an overnight stay and got to experience the beauty of the accommodation and setting in a deeper way. The gorgeous rooms, infinity pool and restaurant all soak in the dramatic and mesmerizing ocean view and as a paying guest, we were greeted and looked after warmly by the friendly and helpful staff. Owner Scott Dinsmore couldn't have been more helpful setting up some details for our stay. A truly romantic place that aims to honor and live up to the beauty of its location.
A beautiful location with a breath taking view of the Pacific Ocean in Southern Costa Rica. The lobby bar and furnishing accent the surroundings with style and the Edgeless Pool with it's Blue coloring adds tremendously to the visual experience. The room was a perfect size with a balcony view of the Pacific Ocean, a spotless bathroom. All the Service Staff were outstanding. Restaurant was terrific with a great selection of local Fresh Fish and magnificent deserts and a very good Wine Selection.
This place is spectacular! When you stay here, it is all about you. The attention to detail is unmatched. Scott, the general manager, is the best. He and the guys go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. Pablo, the chef, is world class! You could have every meal on the property and would never be disappointed. We will be back!
My wife and I stayed here for six nights after a week in Manuel Antonio. If you are looking to truly unwind, this is the place to do it. The rooms are very comfortable. Ours had a small balcony which was perfect for viewing the gorgeous sunsets. The staff is impeccable, paying attention to every detail and providing great information about the area. Wonderful food in the onsite restaurant, great drinks from the bar, and every attempt is made to insure total relaxation. Thanks Scott and your staff for a very memorable time. Pura Vida!! Till next time.
El Castillo is a beautiful place to stay. The pool, restaurants and rooms are all very nice. The food prepared by their own chef is Five Star quality. Really good! The staff is very friendly and professional taking care of anything needed. We will return!
This place has been on my bucket list for years and we were finally able to make it happen. Wow! Was it worth it. The best service great views amazing food and drinks... Wow we felt like movie stars :)
first, this is not my first time at el castillo, but my first time in a long while! mine is a short trip and i will always check in with scott, the owner/manager to find out the latest in menu etc. we decided on a sat night ... sushi night, always a pleasure! (fri, sat & sun) our servers were gerson, and jerrold ... both very attentive with a very good command of english ... making this a place for those wanting an exceptional view ... with exceptional AND uncomplicated service. then the food! the sushi chef is juan-pablo, an immensely personable man of maybe 30. a side note: if you want to understand/comprehend 'pura vida'?? spend 10 minutes with juan-pablo! ok, back to the food ... sushi!! we ordered 3 rolls ... they are pretty big ... id say 1 roll would definitely be enough for 1 person. that being said ... I'm a sushi 'professional'. so, the 2 of us ordered 3 rolls. the 3 huge rolls, home made miso soup and 3 glasses of wine each came to just over 100bux! so, combine the ambiance, the staff and the food ... id say scott hits it(and continues to hit it!!) on the head! always a pleasure (and i think were going back tonight!!) ... SUSHI!!
Wow, we returned to El Castillo after exactly one year and we have to say it even was more perfect than it already was last time. The view from the pool down to the ocean and the small island is spectacular. The team of the hotel gave us wonderful suggestions for day adventures. Particularly a trip to the coffee garden in Biolley is worth driving too! Food is star worthy!! Pablo is a real artist. He makes you smile when he talks about food. Dariel makes the most beautiful coffee. He can make milk foam look like a 3-D cat! Scott is so generous, lively and helpful. He just makes you smile. Gerson has the perfect attention to detail and his helpfulness is amazing! You have to try Gerald's 'My Try' cocktail. He has quite the moves shacking the cocktail shaker. Carlos is one of the most pleasant bar tenders and waiter/staff I have met. His calm attitude fits the Costa Rican life style feeling you get once at El Castillo. All the other staff are so friendly and helpful! I am so looking forward to our next visit! Mucho gusto El Castillo team!!!
Everything about El Castillo rang of 'fairytale' from the moment my family and I entered the premises. Clean, fresh, homey, friendly and compact—it is one of the most outstanding boutique hotels that I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. The rooms were cozy and comfortable, with large windows, balconies and a beautiful view. The food was absolutely excellent with the chief chef being only in his 20s, yet having a god-given talent for creation! Every night my family was inquired about our food needs and preferences and the kitchen staff always went above and beyond to treat us to something new and delicious. We could really see the passion from every member of the kitchen staff we interacted with. The same goes for the rest of the staff members of the hotel, as well—from the young gentlemen working at the concierge to the ones working behind the bar and the servers—everyone was nothing but smiley, friendly and eager to deliver the highest quality of services. Again, what was surprising was how young the members of staff were, yet how impeccably trained, polite and delicate they all were! By the end of the trip, all of members of the El Castillo team have come to feel like family as a result of their warm approach and friendly temperaments. Lastly, all that's really left to comment on is how beautiful the surrounding area of the hotel is. Everything about the place just embodies tranquility. I couldn't recommend El Castillo more! And I fully intend on returning there myself to enjoy the very personable and pleasant experience once more!
