We only stayed a short time but I would definitely return! From the outside you'd never guess how nice it is. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. Everything from nearby restaurant suggestions to currency exchange and information about the hotel. The one downfall is the bathroom is a little strange. I personally feel like it's designed for couples. There's no door to separate the shower, only a curtain. Also, the shower is a bit out of date. But the room we stayed in was spacious with a view and a balcony. The view is amazing! You're on the water, not the beach though but their infinity pool makes up for it. The only other issue was their elevator didn't work when we first got there but one if the security guys did assist us with bring our luggage up into the room. The area is great! Shops and restaurants all within walking distance and a host of taxi drivers on standby if you need to go far. Overall, we were very satisfied! A few minor tweeks is all.
The hotel met most of my expectations for a 45th birthday getaway for some shopping and fun. We live on the north end of the island so going to the "big city" of Roseau is always fun. We have stayed at the Fort Young on a previous occasion and knew what to expect. Overall the stay was fine with the exception of a strong mold odor coming from the A/C unit in our room which necessitated us to keep the balcony sliding glass door open for the duration of our stay. We may have slept without the A/C but the ceiling fan was not operational as well.
Enjoyed the dinner and amenities of this fine hotel. Unable to have an oceanfront room as in the past, but accomodations were sufficient and clean Dinner was excellent ,as the lamb was prepared wonderfully Pool is refreshing and offers a beautiful view
Fort Young is a very pleasant hotel. The staff is amazing and was great about taking care if all of our needs. Definitely would return.
I have been traveling to Dominica for over 20 years, since completing medical school at Ross university there. This hotel by far is the most luxurious, best location (center of town), historical (can't believe the government there allowed a historical fort/site be turned into a hotel). The lobby/reception area is the only part of the original fort that is still intact, and is beautiful. Restaurant in the hotel is the best in town, and hotel is across the street from their "white house". Many local government parties are held in the ballroom. Nice pool, minutes to most popular site seeings places (Champain beach, jofalgra falls, Ti Tu Gorge, Fresh water Lake...) and their main daily produce market. Their master suites (only 3) are great bargains, huge, ocean view with newly renovated double bathroom/showers... for $250 per night is a true bargain. Concierge is Sonia, she is probably one of the smartest people in Dominica and well connected to the rich and famous on the island. She holds the key to what ever you need/want in Dominica. They will not haggle you over little things (no charge for extra bed for my son...) and the people are in general very nice to the tourist (their main source of income).
Beautiful hotel, great views, good food. Would stay there again.
