Only available hotel on the island. Hotel is excellent. the city of Roseau and the island are in bad condition from hurricane Maria. Not many places to eat except the hotel. Downtown area does not appear safe after dark. Devastation and poverty everywhere
I have just spent a week at the Fort Young Hotel in Dominica, given the damaged caused to the area by last years hurricane, everyone at the hotel ensured my stay was faultless. My room was excellent, the internet speed was better than most hotels I stay at in the Caribbean, so a credit to the Hotel. The restaurant was always open on time for breakfast which is also rare for the region.
Whilst my visits to Dominica have been numerous I have never stayed at the Fort Young Hotel. We went to meet friends for the happy hour. The environment met us with vibes, fun and vibrancy. Happy hour is very busy and the thought of having to pay for your drinks before receiving it was rather annoying as this meant standing in a long queue before you even had a chance to quench your thirst. The group ordered food and they were complimentary about what they had received, but for the fact that the pork had a lot of fat rather than meat. As we we drinking for sometime, we decided to book a room at the last minute which was relatively easy to do. The room is extremely spacious, and that includes bathroom and balcony with ocean view. There are coffee and tea making facilities, flat screen tv and free WiFi. Awesome right. It was. The room is on point, very clean and tidy finish due to the renovations which have recently been made. My only downside and that is my point of view is that the rooms are pricey £135.00 a night and I feel that the price range should be in the region of £85.00 and £95.00 per night, bearing in mind breakfast was not included in the price. Overall a great place to stay with friendly and accommodating staff. Well done.
Fort Young is a beautiful hotel. Recently renovated with modern touches to the public areas, including pool, bar, and restaurant. Stunning view of the ocean. Friendly staff. We definitely recommend it!
The only reason I stayed at Fort Young was that I had tried other accommodations already, so it was their turn. Having eaten there many times, I was disappointed in my actual stay. Room 309 was nice King, with a great balcony and a huge bathroom, but half the hotel is under repair (still) following Hurricane Maria 8 months ago and they seem to have increased their rates since they are currently the only half-decent hotel in town.
After the devastation, everyone involved with Fort Young should be congratulated on a great comeback. Having visited before on business, we were aware that Maria had hit the hotel hard but much of the rebuilding has been completed or is ongoing and the results look great. The rooms are as spacious as ever and the service across all hotel departments is generally excellent. Our favourite has to be Albert in the restaurant as he is such a genuinely nice gentleman and very attentive. The food is really good and the buffets offer good value. When completed, the Fort Young will be the resplendent jewel in the Roseau crown!
The best service in many hotel in the region and the best hotel in Dominica. Great food. Great ambience at the bar, nice pool area. Personnel makes you feel at home. With a smile and great attitude! Great experience!
I'm a tour leader who just spent three nights in Dominica staying at the Fort Young Hotel. I wanted to post our review since the Island could really use a boost to its hard-hit tourism industry. The hotel has been able to open a bunch of their rooms but work is still underway to repair the damage done by the powerful Hurricane Maria. That means that you hear some hammering and saws here and there, sure. But you also hear the waves of the Caribbean ocean lapping the shores from your patio and you hear the laughter of the resilient and hard working staff, happy to be back at work after a devastating period for Dominicans. We ate quite a few meals at the hotel as there weren't a lot of options around us. Believe me, we didn't suffer. Lunch and dinner buffets were nicely varied, the genial staff were quick to fulfill requests and live music in the restaurant here and there was a nice touch. The pool is lovely allowing you to gaze out over the rolling sea. I can only speak for my room but my patio was lovely, everything was clean in my well-appointed room and I could almost do the backstroke in my bathtub. The only issue we encountered was a gentleman's laundry that took an abnormally long time to get done but as soon as we spoke to the front desk, things were set straight. Everyone can have a bad day. Don't fear the damage that was done to that beautiful island. Instead, embrace the opportunity to see the true power of nature at its fiercest and lend your support to the folks just trying to battle back.
Notwithstanding the hotel room count being down to 40, the customer service experience is terrific! All of the restaurant staff and the F&B manager go out of their way to meet and exceed expectations. Being a vegan, there was little option for me on the menu. However, Nian, the F&B manager worked with chef to prepare vegan meals, (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for me with very short notice. Thank you for a great guest experience Fort Young Hotel! Wow wow wow is how I have to begin this review..Despite the challenges most businesses faced after hurricane Maria, I must commend fort young hotel for their continued customer service and heart warming welcome. You can hardly tell the place is going under renovations because you feel so comfortable and relaxed. It was indeed a smooth going process from the point of booking all the way to arrival. The staff were efficient and friendly. I was pleased when I received complimentary wine and a nicely decorated room along with a card wishing me the best for my birthday. This made me feel like part of a group of people who view me as special. From the service to the food,staff and management are all amazing. I would recommend there to anyone looking for peace of mind along with great customer service n customer service after all is key to any and all businesses. Kudos to you all.
