We had an average stay here as the first part of our first family holiday (married couple of 29/30 & three-month-old). Good points - cleaning service is very good, staff are extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast is good with a decent choice (lack of warm vegetarian option was a bit of a disappointment). Very quiet with no noise issues at all. Bad points - room far too small for us and all our luggage with the little one. The bed was also too small for us, while the pillows weren’t great. Asked for a smaller kind and was told there were none in the hotel, which was a shame. Ice cream on menu was also stupidly overpriced for what it was. Would probably not choose to stay so long with family again, but for a stopover or just a couple of nights, this would be a good choice.
Stayed here for one night while visiting the local area. Unfortunately we were allocated a room (booked through Expedia) which overlooked the Ambassador Road/Honiton Road intersection and it was noisy. The vent on the window although we tried to close it did not make any difference, we found it hard to get to sleep and stay asleep with motorbikes and cars revving up at the intersection and speeding past. The room on the 2nd floor was also opposite the staircase so we had to endure the noise of that door being banged on many occasions late and then again early morning. The shower was powerful although the temperature each time was temperamental. Large car park at the front of the hotel and easy access to the M5. The staff we came into contact with were all pleasant and Laura on reception was particularly helpful and keen on check in. Breakfast which was included in our rate was good and constantly replenished. Fresh croissants, bread, muffins, fruit and yoghurt and/or a cooked breakfast. All buffet style and easy to locate plates and cutlery. Hot drinks and juice were all self service. I would rate this hotel 7/10 and unfortunately would not stay here again next time.
Easy location to find. Ample parking. Shower rooms with ability to close the door on the toilet to make it separate and leave the doorway open to shower and basin or close the door and have a shower room with toilet. Plumbing very noisy overnight, sounded as if the toilet was flushing regularly during the night. Ample electric sockets - with a note telling you more were hidden behind the curtains. Not a fan of the pillows, all too high for us. Welcoming staff. buffet style breakfast with limited hot choice - scrambled egg, bacon and sausages. fresh fruit was bananas and apples. Several different cereals. Coffee machine broken so restricted to instant only.
We arrived at the Holiday Inn two hours early but stopped off to ask if we could use the toilets as we were booked in for two nights Jane on reception was only too happy to allow us to use the facilities When we had finished we went to thank her only to be told that our room was ready and we could book in early, Fantastic news We found our typical room #211 clean and tidy so we dropped off our bags and carried on with our visit to Devon and Cornwall When we returned on the evening the car park was packed and we struggled to find a space, the bar was open so we had a nightcap before retiring for the night The bed was OK but the pillows, 1 was soft and 1 was hard, we settled for the soft as the hard ones were not to our liking The no frills breakfast (at 8am) was very busy but the foods on offer were hot and fresh and constantly being topped up and with everything we needed All the staff were warm and welcoming and appeared to be very efficient Check out was quick and easy, apart from having to clear an inch of snow off the car!
A bit disappointed about the small bed and noisy air conditioning. Pillows are the hardest, highest that I have ever experienced! The staff were brilliant and a good breakfast thank you. Good location and ample parking!
My mother and I were due to fly to Edinburgh on 1 March (slightly snowy!) so we decided to stop overnight to ensure we were close to the airport. We had just checked in, gone to our room, used the bathroom, made a cup of tea and sat down before going out for supper... text arrived- FLIGHT CANCELLED! We packed up and went down to check out, explained what had happened and were given a full refund without question. I was at least expecting a housekeeping/admin charge. Staff were great, well presented and courteous. The room also was excellent and well equipped. I’m sure we would have enjoyed our stopover! Small menu but with a Steakhouse 100yds away. 5 minutes from Exeter airport.
Booked for one night prior to visiting the Uni for my eldest son who will start in Sept 2018. Booked online and it did not disappoint. Even the continental breakfast was very good and in good amounts in the buffet. No full English but enough scrambled eggs, sausages , bacon, toast, beans . The rooms were average size and clean. The only downside I experienced was with the pillows. You have a set of hard and soft pillows. Nether were good for me and I had to make up a pillow rom the bath towels. So not a great sleep. Good location off the motorway and lots of parking. The staff were attentive and pleasant.
Booked a HI Express for the first time as part of a visit to one of our sons, who recently moved to Exeter to start work there. Excellent rates in my view, easy to find from the M5, very good staff, well-designed and -equipped rooms (especially good bed and shower), decent breakfasts, park & ride bus facilities just across the road, as well as a decent steak house (Miller & Carter) next door. A very pleasant stay indeed - probably to be repeated for all the reasons stated above!
The car park in and out is a bit confusing in the dark, also close to a main road which is busy and also must be near a hospital, lots of ambulance noise. So get yourself a room away from the main road. Close to the M5, service and breakfast was the normal Holiday Inn good standard.
Was exactly what we needed for a one night stay. Rooms were clean and fresh. Bathrooms were great too - supplied basic toiletries. Beds very comfy - slept like a log! Was worried about outside noise as it's by a road but we couldn't hear a thing. Plenty of plug sockets available which was helpful for me although none near the bed which was a shame but hardly a huge inconvenience. Unfortunately our TV didn't work - had we been there longer than one night we would have complained but there was no point. This is something I'd hope would be checked by housekeeping but not a huge problem at all. Staff at the front desk were all very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was good. Cereal, pastries and hot food to choose from plus a selection of juices and teas and coffees. All around, a very good stay and great value for money.
